Adrian’s POV

Elysia’s feet pounded against the forest floor as she ran to me, her face was streaked with tears and dirt.

The moment she reached me, I pulled her into my arms.

She clung to me like her life depended on it and her hands trembled.

“I’m here,” I whispered, wrapping my arms tightly around her.

I could feel her heartbeat racing.

Her fingers dug into my back then I gently stroked her hair and leaned my chin on the top of her head.

“I’ve got you, Elysia. No one’s taking you from me again.”

Kyle stood a few feet away watching us.

Elysia tilted her face up, her eyes were red from the cry.

I lifted her into my arms and carried her back through the forest. Her face was still buried in my chest and I carried her out and down the corridor in silence, nodding to the guards without a word as we passed.

Her breath warmed my neck. When I reached my chamber, I shouldered the door open and stepped inside.

Then I walked straight to the bed and gently placed her down on the edge.
