Adriana stood at the doorway for some seconds before going in, and she closed the door.

There wasn't any bed in the room; only two mattresses that looked as old as time lay on the floor.

Kallias was already bent over one, and he unrolled it and let out a cough. The mattress had dust all over it, and he tried to dust it away.

Then he laid it on the ground and stared down at his hands. The blood had already dried on his skin, and he wished he had asked for water before the inn woman went away.
