CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE- SQUEEZE THE TRIGGER

My head might as well have been tossed from side to side before they fitted it back to my neck. I was so dizzy when I opened my eyes. Everything spun for a moment and I blinked several times to focus on the lights and images in front of me. My body was still heavy.

I wanted to brush the hair out of my face, but when I went to move my arm, I realized it didn't move. Instead, the rattle of chains rang out, waking me up completely to what had just happened.

I had been captured. Hunters... Liane...

I sniffed the air, but what I smelled was, in fact, hopeless. That sour artichoke smell I never understood was there. I pressed my eyes to the image forming in front of me and almost wanted to yank my hands out of the grip of those chains.
