Chapter 54: “Not every rumor is a lie.”

*ASA TRINE*

“Asa?”

Clay’s touch on my hand instantly jostled me out of my buzzing mind. Bringing my attention to him I found that he had been staring at me in worry and smiling at him I apologized, “I am sorry, what were you saying?”

“No, it’s nothing important but are you okay?” he asked carefully as he observed me with his deep eyes.

His words and his concern took me back to this morning when I was leaving for the hospital.

*FLASHBACK*

We silently got dressed had our breakfast and kept our talks to the minimum like we had been doing these mournful days. I had been glancing at Cain every few seconds in, hoping that he would drop that scowl and smile at me and tell me that he had forgiven me for lying to him and that he trusted me but it was too far-fetched for me to want that and I knew it.

It was only when we were leaving the house that I noticed he wasn’t following me as he would have and turning to look at him I saw him standing fifteen steps behind me.
