Blood.

It was a mix of human and animal blood, which was never a good sign. Knox has dealt with young humans trespassing a lot, so I wasn’t even bothered when I smelled them.

Until it changed.

I wasn’t sure whether someone was in danger or if it was just some kids messing around, but I knew that Knox was in town for some meeting.

My movements slowed as sounds reached my ears. Ears twitching, I tried to even my breathing as I lowered my upper body closer to the ground to sneak up on them.

“We have another pussy living with us,” Knox announced that evening as we sat at the table for dinner. Both Seth and Xan choked on their food.He raised his glass to his lips, winked at me, and took a sip to hide his smile. It could have been announced in a more…respectful way, but I knew it was my mate’s way of teasing them, since they were both panthers.“How long did it take you to convince him to let the cat stay?” Vesper asked. “Seth said it would take you twenty minutes to talk him into it.”I raised an eyebrow. “And Wilder?”“Ten minutes,” he answered. My eyes locked on Xan because I knew that they would have involved him in whatever bet they had going on. He blinked at me as if my question caught him off guard. One thing I picked up on was the fact that he didn’t expect us to include him in the things we did. For example, dinner. Xan had stared at me for a total of five minutes when I told him that we’d be having dinner at the table.“What was your bet, pretty boy?” I asked.H

“You should have seen him! When the kid tried to run away from me, Xan gave him this look that made him freeze instantly.” Seth clasped his hands together under his chin and smiled widely. “He was like, ′Sit your ass down!' And the kid instantly followed his order.” I smiled, unable to hide it from the excited man next to me. He was practically bouncing in his seat with excitement as he told me what had happened while they were out for a walk. “Do you think he was an alpha? He has to be an alpha because he has the same vibes rolling off him as Knox when he’s dealing with pack business.”“There’s only place for one alpha in this pack, boy,” Knox growled.Seth rolled his eyes, but he happily drifted towards his mate for a kiss. Once Knox let him go, he settled next to me and relaxed against my chest.“Did you get a good look at them?” Knox asked. Seth tensed. “I memorized their scents.”“Are they adults or …?” The sentence was left hanging in the air. My eyes snapped over to the sta

Ears twitching, I tried to even my breathing as I lowered my upper body closer to the ground to sneak up on them. They sounded like kids.Just before I could clear the bushes, a hand gripped my scruff, jerking me to a halt. I snarled, but Xan barely blinked.“Sit,” he ordered.Embarrassment flooded me when I found myself following his order. I stared up at him as he took it all in, and then he did the most unexpected thing: he stepped out of the treeline and cleared his throat. The kids instantly stopped arguing and spun around to face him. Raising my face, I sniffed the air, and once it was determined that the k

The day I lost my mate, I had accepted the fact that I was going to be alone for the rest of my life. Golden wolves were the only shifters blessed with more than one mate because they needed the extra protection. I never thought that any other shifters were lucky enough to get a second chance or that they could have more than one fated mate. When I lost my mate, it had destroyed me. The only thing that kept me moving forward was my urge for revenge, and Keiran made sure I had the chance. But once I took care of the bastard, I had to pack my bags and leave the only place I had ever considered home. All because I had made a stupid mistake and believed that I’d be able to rescue my mate. There was no way I’d be able to handle that type of pain again. “Hey.” My eyes snapped to the doorway. “Just…just wanted to check in.” He moved from foot to foot as he rubbed the back of his neck. “Sometimes the sedative can knock you on your ass for a few days.” I frowned. “They’ve sedated

“You look kind of creepy.”My eyes snapped to the corner of the room, where I sensed Vesper lingering. “Shouldn’t you be asleep?”“I wanted to check in before I went to bed.”I glanced at the window at the sun already in the sky. The apartment was dark enough for him to move around freely, but as soon as the sun was high enough, he would be too tired to stay awake.“Go to bed, Ves,” I ordered. He lingered for a few more seconds and then disappeared. Letting out a sigh, I shifted in the chair but froze when Xan stirred. He stilled for a few seconds and then shot upright in bed. Golden eyes narrowed on me.“You drugged me!” he croaked. My eyes narrowed. “You were attacking us.”His lips parted, but he pursed them and looked away. Pushing the sheets off, he moved to the edge of the bed and sat up. The man didn’t even flinch when he stood and slowly made his way into the bathroom.I leaned forward with my elbows resting on my knees and waited. A few minutes later, the toilet flushed and a

I was torn between going after Knox and staying to make sure that Xan was okay. Seth touched my arm, snapping my attention to him.“Go,” he ordered softly. “I got them.”Glancing at them one last time, I hurried after Knox. My steps faltered when I spotted him crouched against the wall with his hands buried in his hair.Swallowing, I took a seat next to him and stared out at the tall trees surrounding us. Letting out a sigh, he dropped to his ass and rested his arms on his bent knees.“What the hell was that?” I asked Knox. “You never use force unless it’s necessary. What happened to the calm man who always makes us sit down and talk things out if there’s a problem?”“He wanted out, and he was planning on using you to get that,” he growled.Turning to face him, I folded my legs and leaned forward to try and get a look at his face. Knox still looked grim, and I could smell the anger that still clung to him.“He wouldn’t have hurt me.”“You don’t know that!” he snapped. “He was panickin
