Chapter 20

I held Renee while she slept, it felt so good to hold her in my arms. If I had to describe the feeling, I would say that I felt like I was home.

However, the peace didn’t last too long within thirty minutes of her falling asleep in my arms, she woke up in pain once again. Her face became flush, and I could feel her body heating up quickly.

I slipped out from under her and scooped her up quickly bringing her to the ice bath once again. Unfortunately, a lot of the ice had melted away, but it would have to do. I lowered us both into the water once again.

“Is that better?” I ask quietly

“Mmhmm, thank you” she still seemed out of it, like maybe she was still half asleep.

It didn’t take long for the bath to become room temperature with us both inside it. The warmer the water became the more uncomfortable Renee became.
