Chapter 20

ANGEL

I slowly gained awareness after being thrusted into the darkness. My head was foggy as I tried to figure out what was going on.

Time seemed endless, stretching on forever. It could have been minutes or even days before I could open my eyes.

I looked around and saw that I was in a strange room. I sat up too quickly and felt dizzy. Goddess, my head was killing me. I went to rub my temples and realized that I was shackled to a fucking bed.

My arms pulled against the shackles, making something on the floor rattle. Peering over the edge, I saw that it was attached to a heavy-duty anchor on the concrete floor. Were they fucking serious? Did they fear that I would somehow escape through a non-existent window?

Everything came flooding back to me. Maxine was the one to betray me. How had I fallen right into her little trap? She played me since the beginning. I trusted her when I never should have. My boys had been suspicious of her, but I had been too blind!
