“Please Daphne. It’s hard enough becoming this. I need my hand, I need my eye.”

“My magic doesn't work like that. You have seen it, Linc. All I am meant to do is hurt people.” She closes her eyes and sighs. “It’s all I’ve done is hurt people.”

“No.”

“Yes, Linc. Even when protecting Lilah, I was hurting others.”

“But you were doing what you felt was right. You were doing what you were supposed to. Protecting the Queen.”

She doesn’t even look at me. And as I watched her, I couldn’t see how she would go and attack the others. Maybe she just said it in the moment. She was still half wolf.

“Lilah misses you.” I try, hoping it would make her talk. But also to try and take my mind off the beating vein in her neck.

“You mean she misses me being able to protect her.”

“I don’t think that’s true.”

“Of course it’s true, Linc. She changed when she became a mum. She didn't even come after me” She snaps at me.

"He won't let her. I've told you why."

"But she always found a way."
