Lilah

I was weak. There wasn’t anything else to describe it. I could barely lift my head off the pillow and only just manage to open my eyes a little.

My favourite story was being read to me by another female. Her voice is soft as she carefully reads each word aloud.

It takes me a few minutes to realise that it’s Callie. She briefly looks up at me and smiles. She doesn’t speak to me and goes straight back to reading me the story.

“Colt…” I croakily mumble. I didn’t sound anything like myself.

“He will be up in a minute.” She tells me, “I’ve already linked him to let him know.”

“Where. Is. He?” I was so raspy.

“He will be here in just a moment. Just rest.”

He said he wasn’t going to leave. He promised that he would stay with me. “Where?”

She drops the book on to the chair as she stands. “Lilah, you are safe.”

“Get the fuck away from me!” I cough up the words. My body wouldn’t even allow me to sit up. I just laid there, my body failing me.
