MasukDelilah's POV Cecile hasn't spent a full day here and she's about to get us exposed. What happened to her talkative nature now? Why can't she answer Jake's question? Why shouldn't I be comfortable here?I really don't want to bail her out of the question, but both of us are in this mess together. Causing problems for her will only create problems for me."We're only visitors here and Cecile can't wait for us to go home. She just doesn't want me to get carried away. That's all""But you're just arriving here, Cecile," Jake says to her."Yes, but there's no place like home right?" She says and flashes him a fake smile. He nods in agreement. "Hi guys!" Denise greets us as she joins us. "Are we set to... " She pauses on seeing Cecile, and a thoughtful expression crosses her face. "Are you Cecile?" "Yeah," Cecile responds. "Nice to meet you! Delilah has told me a lot about you. You're her younger cousin right?" Cecile's mouth hangs open and she glances at me briefly before nodding. "Y
Cecile's POVSo this is what the human world is like? I continue staring out the window of Delilah's friend's car as we drive down to their workplace. The buildings are lined up close together, and the place is crowded with people. I look at Delilah who is seated at the front. We haven't properly talked since I arrived. We haven't had the chance to. So I just sit in the back of the car with many questions I have."We're here!" Jake announces when we arrive at their workplace. A big bold sign in front reads, "Pam's eatery."It's such a relief that Delilah had some extra clothes for me to change into. The hospital robe was surely going to make me look out of place.Jake comes out of the car and locks it. He walks in front of us and I hold Delilah back, standing beside her."What am I supposed to do here? Are you sure it's safe for me?""Yes, Cecile. I wouldn't have asked you to come here if it wasn't." Her voice is calm and reassuring so I believe her. When I get into the building, th
Cecile's POV A heavy force compresses all over me. It's like I'm not in control of my body. My mind is clouded with darkness and a cold that pierces through my bones. Where am I? Suddenly, a wave of water starts to flood my nostrils and I push myself upward instinctively. Thankfully my head breaks above the layer of water, getting into the air. My chest constricts as I get into a fit of coughing. The waves sway me and push me until I'm completely submerged underneath the water. My nostrils get flooded again and this time I'm not able to stop it. My breath seizes and I fall unconscious. A sharp pain in my chest wakes me up. Water rises up my throat and forces its way out of my mouth. I start coughing up the rest as a burning sensation arises in my throat and chest. The people around continue to move in a rowdy manner. I don't realise I'm lying on a stretcher until they lift me up with it and put me in the back of a van. "You're going to be fine, okay? Just breathe..." A lady says
Delilah's POVThere aren't many cars in Avalon. So now riding in one feels pretty strange. I continue staring at the way Jake turns the steering wheel and controls the movement of the car."Do you know how to drive?"I shake my head. "Never got the opportunity to learn.""Wow! Really? Then I need to teach you."My lips part open and I turn to face him fully. "What if I don't have an interest in driving?""Why won't you have an interest in driving? I mean," he shrugs, "it's a basic skill." I shake my head and face forward. "Are you scared?" "No," I reply sharply, trying to hide the truth. We come to a stop in front of a red light. "Why are we stopping?" I ask him. "That's a red light. You know about traffic lights, right?" he laughs. His explanation adds to my confusion and his laughing makes it annoying. Jake stares at me for some seconds before putting his attention back on the road. The light turns green and we begin moving again. I need to be careful with the kind of questi
Delilah's POV I sit down on the stairs leading up to Denise's front door and wait for her to show up. "I'm so sorry, Delilah. Hope I did not keep you waiting for long?" Denise says, walking up to the house. "No, it's fine," I reply while standing up. She unlocks the door to her apartment and pushes it open. Initially, we meet a dark house before she turns on the light switch, and light floods the living room. It has two couches and a small centre table. There's a television sitting on a console. Beyond the living room is the kitchen and dining area, demarcated from the living room by a half wall. "Welcome to my humble abode," Denise says, walking to the kitchen to drop her bag on the dining table. I move further into the room painted in soft pink. "You have an amazing place, Denise. Thanks for allowing me to stay." "You're welcome, dear. My roommate just moved last week and her room is still in order. I've been looking for who to share the place with." She lead
Delilah's POV"New York?" I repeat after him just to be sure I'm hearing correctly.Jake looks at me blankly. This is worse than death. I can't be in the human world. What if they discover that I'm a werewolf? Just imagine all the despicable treatment I'd receive. "Do you have a place to stay?" Jake's voice breaks into my thoughts. I blink at him and shake my head. "You can work for my mum. Her daily wages should be enough to find you fairly good accommodation for the night." I continue to stare at Jake in confusion. This can't be happening. There's no way the staff of doom sends people to the human world. How do I leave this place? How do I return to Avalon now?"Hello?" Jake waves his hand in front of my face. "Now I remember, you never told me your name.""Delilah. My name is Delilah," I tell him."Alright, Delilah. So are you taking the job? I can teach you the ropes myself."I study his expression, contemplating whether I should trust him or not. "Sure. Yes. I will take the j
