She knocked softly on the door.

“Come in.”

The mother slowly pushed the door open and entered the study.

Her husband was sitting behind his desk, company files piled up before him while silence filled the room.

She walked toward him but did not sit down.

She asked in a quiet voice, worry and exhaustion mingling in it:

“Have you heard anything about Adam?”

He lifted his eyes from the papers and shook his head.

“No.”

She sighed, as though the single word had been heavier than she expected.

“He hasn’t been to university for days... This isn’t like him.”

“He’ll come back,” he replied calmly.

She shook her head.

“I’m not asking whether he’ll come back... I’m asking where he is.”

Before he could answer, someone knocked on the door.

One of the servants entered, carrying a white envelope.

“This letter arrived, sir.”

The mother froze.

As for the father, he calmly took the envelope. The moment he saw Adam’s name, he opened it without hesitation.

He read the letter once.

Then he handed it to his wife.

Her hands trembled as she read.

She noticed nothing except the first few words.

“I’m fine...”

She closed her eyes, and a silent tear slipped down her cheek.

That was all she had wanted.

Just to know...

That her son was still safe.

But the father...

He had not read the letter as a father would.

He had read it as a man accustomed to searching between the lines.

He turned the envelope over.

He examined the postage stamp.

Then he read the mailing date again.

He pressed the button for the internal phone.

One of his assistants entered moments later.

The father handed him the envelope.

“Find out where this was sent from.”

The man nodded and left quickly.

Several hours later, he returned.

He stood before the desk and said apologetically:

“Sir... The letter was sent through a postal intermediary. There’s no trace leading to his location.”

Silence filled the room.

The mother stepped closer to her husband.

She thought he would be angry.

But he smiled faintly, barely enough for the expression to reach his face.

Then he said in a calm voice, almost frightening in its composure:

“This was deliberate.”

He looked at the letter again before adding:

“I know him better than he knows himself.”

He raised his eyes toward the window and said with unwavering confidence:

“Run as far as you want, Adam...”

“But I know the way your mind works.”

“And I know that no one can hide forever.”

Far away...

Adam was walking through the streets of a city where no one knew him.

He had no idea...

That the first real battle between him and his father had already begun.

The following morning, Adam stood in front of a small bus station, a bag hanging from his shoulder.

Beside him stood an old friend, the only person who knew his true whereabouts and had agreed to serve as his mailing address and the intermediary between him and his family.

Silence lingered between them for a long moment.

Then Adam extended his hand and shook his friend’s firmly.

His friend smiled.

“You know what you’re asking me to do isn’t easy.”

Adam gave him a quiet smile.

“That’s why I only asked you.”

The man sighed.

“What if your father comes himself?”

Adam lowered his head for a moment before answering:

“Don’t lie to him... but don’t lead him to me either.”

His friend continued looking at him before saying:

“I’m afraid the path you’ve chosen will be a difficult one.”

Adam smiled as he gazed toward the horizon.

“If I go back now... I won’t be myself anymore.”

His friend stepped closer and patted him on the shoulder.

“Then go... and build the life you want.”

Adam boarded the bus.

Before the doors closed, he waved one last time.

He did not know when he would see that face again.

At the same time...

Inside the mansion, his mother was rereading his letter for the tenth time.

Every time she reached the words:

“Don’t worry, Mom...”

She smiled despite her tears.

She took a small sheet of paper and wrote in her calm handwriting:

“My son...

I don’t know where you are or how you are living, but I know your heart.

If the path you have chosen is an honest one, then do not be afraid of how long it may be.

Do not let failure steal your dream, and do not let success steal your humanity.

I may not be able to walk beside you, but my prayers will go ahead of you on every road.

When you grow tired... remember that there is a mother who believes in you, even if the entire world fails to.

I love you... and I will wait for the day you return because you chose to come back, not because you were forced to.”

She folded the letter gently and held it against her chest.

She did not know how she would send it to him.

But she believed that sincere words, even if they took a long time to arrive, would one day find their way to the person they had been written for.

And on the same floor...

Adam’s father was quietly giving orders, expanding the search.

The mother was sending prayers.

The father was sending men.

And Adam...

was moving farther away with every passing kilometer, unaware that his mother’s love was the only thing capable of crossing the distance between them, while his father’s influence could not.

The bus disappeared at the end of the road, leaving only his friend behind at the station, watching until it vanished completely from sight.

He sighed slowly and whispered:

“Take care of yourself, Adam.”

Only a few minutes passed before a black car stopped beside the curb.

Two men wearing dark suits stepped out.

They walked directly toward him.

One of them said:

“We’re looking for a young man named Adam.”

The friend calmly looked at them, then glanced toward the road the bus had taken.

“You’re too late.”

The man frowned.

“Where did he go?”

The friend gave a faint smile.

“Even if I knew... I wouldn’t tell you.”

A brief silence followed.

Then the other man said:

“Do you realize that the person who sent us is his father?”

The friend raised his head firmly.

“And I realize that the man who left a few minutes ago is my friend.”

The two men exchanged a glance.

One of them turned toward the car and took out his phone.

“Sir... He left before we arrived.”

Meanwhile, inside the bus, Adam sat beside the window, watching the city slowly disappear behind him.

He did not know that his friend had stood up to his father’s men.

He did not know that only a few minutes had separated his freedom from being dragged back into the life he had fled.

He thought his journey had only just begun...

When, in truth, this was the first small victory in his long battle to live the way he wanted, rather than the way others had chosen for him.

The phone remained facedown on the table, but the vibrations continued. Once, then again, then a third time. Lian closed her eyes and reached for it without much interest, assuming the latest notification was another work message. It wasn't. An anonymous account. No profile picture, no name, nothing but a few short lines. "If you were a real woman, your husband wouldn't have run away from you." Lian's breathing caught for a moment. Before she could even process the message, another appeared. "Win your husband's heart first. Then think about drawing." Then a third. "A woman who can't make her husband stay doesn't deserve to call herself a woman." Lian stared at the screen. She didn't cry, and she didn't get angry. Instead, a cold emptiness slowly spread through her. How strang

The only sound in the room was the soft movement of the stylus across the drawing tablet. One line followed another, accompanied by faint touches of color around the characters' eyes. Lian leaned slightly toward the screen, its blue light reflecting against her pale face. She had lost track of time hours ago, barely noticing her hunger or the tiredness creeping into her body. She was completely absorbed in the world she was creating with her own hands. On the screen, a young man and woman stood beneath a blooming cherry tree. Neither of them was speaking. The girl looked shyly at the ground while the young man held out a small umbrella to shield her from the rain. Lian smiled as she drew that same shy smile on her heroine's face, but then she stopped and stared at the picture for a long moment. It was strange, really. She could draw love in all its details. She knew how longing looked in someone's eyes, how fingers trembled during a firs

She could search for her own name and spend the entire morning discovering what people believed had happened to her. For a moment, the temptation was there. Then she turned the screen off. She didn't have the energy today to defend herself against a world that wasn't looking for the truth. It wanted a story to entertain itself with. And she was tired of being part of someone else's story. She put the phone down. Then, after a brief pause, she picked it up again. This time, she opened the work app. One of her clients was waiting for a drawing that was due before noon. Lian looked at the message for a few seconds. It was an ordinary request. Nothing emotional. Nothing complicated.

Lian woke up without anyone waking her. There was no ringing phone, no alarm, and no knock on the door. The silence alone had been enough to pull her from sleep. She opened her eyes slowly, but she didn't look at the ceiling or turn toward the heavy curtains, where the morning light struggled to find its way through the gaps. Her sunken, swollen eyes, exhausted from a long night without real sleep, stared at a point that wasn't really there, as if they couldn't see the spacious room, the large bed, or the carefully chosen furniture meant to reflect the names of two powerful families. She was looking somewhere beyond all of it.At a little girl who used to hide her pencils inside her schoolbag so she wouldn't have to hear those words again: "Drawing won't give you a future."At a girl who used to close the door of her art room whenever she heard footsteps approaching, afraid that someone might walk in and ask what she was doing.

She took one step, then another, until she was close enough to see every detail of her reflection. Lian raised a hand and touched the corners of her swollen eyes. Her fingers moved slowly over her pale cheek, almost as if she were trying to make sure the woman standing in front of her was really there. "When..." The word barely left her lips. Silence filled the room. She looked into her own eyes for a long moment before asking again, "When did I become like this?" No one answered. She kept staring, seeing behind those tired eyes the long nights of silence and the years she had spent living the way other people wanted her to live instead of the way she wanted. She saw every time she had swallowed a word because it was easier than arguing. Every dream she had hidden because someone had told her it wasn't practical. Every
