Luna POV

Why does it seem like when I'm on the road, that's when sh*t happens? We were minding our business when we left the hotel room. I had to shoot a few rogues who thought they were going to rough us up. I wasn't having it. We were speeding down the road, trying to get some distance from the hotel. I was trying not to talk, but Renee wanted to. She's the type that when she gets scared, she talks. For me, I just want to get away as far as possible. When we were done talking, everything was quiet. I was going to slow down in just twenty minutes or so. I just wanted to get as far away as possible.

"If you don't mind, could you stop somewhere so I could get something to eat? I'm starving." This scared me so bad that I slammed on the brakes, flipping the car. I was surprised that we weren't upside down. But the car landed right back on its tires. When she told me who she was, I decided to call Dad. Renee told me to mindlink, so if she's lying, I could just shoot her and leave her body there. Right now, I didn't really care. It only took a few rings until I heard my Dad on the other end.

"Luna, honey, are you almost here? I'll tell Lucas to instruct his guards to open the gate for you."

"No, Dad, we have a problem. I killed a few rogues when we left the hotel, and then this crazy woman came from the back seat, claiming to be a woman named Jasmine that the rogues have been looking for. She claims to be the trustee of Lucas. Has this so-called King Lucas ever heard of a Jasmine? Because if he hasn't, I'm going to shoot her in the head."

"Yes, honey, we were looking for her. Kayla verified that she wasn't the one taking the funds. Is she there with you now?"

"Yes, I have my gun pointed at her head."

"You can trust her, honey. Get back in the car and keep driving. If you're hungry, go through a drive-through, but do not get out. If the car needs gas, then get it and get back on the road. The king will send some warriors to watch over you. Do not talk to anyone, and for goodness' sake, tell Jasmine to stay in the car and not to talk to anyone. If they come after you, you know what to do: shoot them until they are dead." Nothing else was said; we hung up the phone. I put the gun down, telling everyone to get back into the car, hoping it would start back up. I popped the hood, making sure nothing was wrong. I got back into the car after taking a look around. I knew something was out there watching, so I started the car back up after a few tries and then took off down the road.

"Don't you think you needed to let us know you were there when we got into the car instead of an hour down the road? I could have shot you right there without talking to my father."

"Sorry, I was trying to hide from those a**holes. They have been after me since the day I decided to go on the run. I have paperwork inside the safe and a guy who has three copies. If anything happens to me, they will be sent straight to the king and his duke. By the way, who are you people? You act like you're scared of nothing." I couldn't help but chuckle. She had no clue who we were. I didn't want to be snooty about it or stuck up. She wanted to know, so I told her.

"We are the Blacks. If you've ever heard of Mercury Black, the mafia king, I am his granddaughter. He passed the title down to my dad when he was ready to step down. Now, my father is the mafia king. We are here to find out who has been taking the funds from the so-called king of lycans and why there are rogues getting into the kingdom."

Jasmine's POV

After everything calmed down and this girl's father confirmed who I was, we all got back into the car. It took a few tries, but the car started back up, and we resumed our journey. I knew this wouldn't be the last time we encountered rogues. If they found out I was heading back with these girls, they would do anything to prevent me from reaching there. As I sat back, questions began.

"Don't you think you needed to let us know you were there when we got into the car, instead of an hour down the road? I could have shot you right there without talking to my father," one of the girls remarked.

"Sorry, I was trying to hide from those assholes. They've been after me since the day I decided to go on the run. I have paperwork inside my floor safe and a guy with three copies. If anything happens to me, they'll be sent straight to the king and his duke. By the way, who are you people? You act like you're scared of nothing." I heard the girl softly laugh. Was she about to tell me something I really didn't want to know? I waited as she seemed about to speak. Could this be a big deal, I wondered?

"We are the Blacks. Have you heard of Mercury Black, the mafia king? I'm his granddaughter. He passed the title down to my dad when he was ready to step down. My father is the mafia king now. We are here to investigate who has been embezzling funds from the so-called king of lycans and how rogues are infiltrating the kingdom. I've been at college, so we've been trying to get there, but obstacles keep arising. It always happens to one of us. We're used to it." The woman revealed this family connection, and I realized I had heard rumors about this mafia group in the kingdom. They were notorious and feared.

Considering that I am safe with them or in danger by being with her, I noted that it could go either way. At least for the moment, I was heading back to the castle. It would take us a few days to get there, and I anticipated that chaos would erupt once we arrived.
