We arrived at the mall, and frankly, Jade and I were ready to shop until we dropped. Which seemed Likely at this mall. We went to Sephora, Coach, DSW, Old Navy, Ulta and many more stores. The guys hoped for the day to end at any time. We shopped for a couple hours and Tristan handed me some gorgeous clothes with wedges, it was a tube top shirt that was in the most stunning shade of blue and a pair of Paris Blue jeans. When he did this I had no clue, I could have sworn he was with us the entire time and he was even nice enough to get Jade a red halter top. We stopped to eat at Friday's, Dom's choice.
At the restaurant the Dom had a fajita, Jade a cheeseburger while boyfriend and I both ordered their 'mac n five cheese' macaroni and cheese with bacon and grilled chicken and I had a Lynchburg Lemonade, everything was so delicious. We were all stuffed when we left so stuffed that we just checked into the nearest hotel and got a two joined suits but were too tired to even hang out. Well so I thought, boyfriend on the other hand was full of energy and in the instant that I put my stuff in the room he whisked me off to the rooftop (which by the way was absolutely breath taking). "I hope you like it. I just wanted to spend quiet alone time with you in a beautiful place. Plus, I owe you an explanation of your present in case you have forgotten." In that moment I put my hand on that onyx dangling from my neck, I would cherish this necklace forever. "Remember how I told you about the magic I learned? Well, the necklace isn't just pretty stones, it will protect you from harm of any kind so always wear it and it will keep you safe from those people/vampires/things that wish to hurt you. And of course it has the added benefits of what the stones mean. Onyx is for protection and keeping away negativity and releases old relationships. While quarts helps with physic abilities aids in mediation as well as visualization. I have a feeling if you tap into your Native American heritage, those will be of great use to you." I was elated just to spend time with a person that just wanted to spend time with me, but that's just the person I am. "Thank you again for my gift I really do love it. Is there another reason you wanted to talk out here, or did you just want to whisk me away? Either way its good with me. What do you think of Macomb so far?" "You ask a lot of questions don't you? Ha-ha Well I just wanted to be with you is all, it doesn't matter where we are. Macomb is way smaller than most places I've been sure, but it's not the smallest place by far but I do get what you're saying since you grew up close to Chicago so this is definitely a culture shock for you." We finished talking and went back to our room for bed. The next afternoon, we went back to Macomb and set up for the party in our basement. Now don't go thinking we're the popular kids on campus we're simply inviting some friends over and we'll see how that goes. The party was way more than Jade and I expected people we didn't quite know were there. It wasn't as big as the frat parties on Adams street but that's okay we weren't expecting that, luckily for us though there was no extra beer the music was good and loud and we did tons of dancing and mingling we have even made some new friends along the way. I hadn't gotten a chance to tell anyone yet but there was a guy there no one knew and he gave me a creepy 'stay away from him vibe, but he smiled at me every time I saw him, come to think of it, I saw him a lot even though he never got close, I wonder what Tristan will make of it, but I will wait till the house is clean and everything is completely settled and we're relaxed in bed. The next day the cleaning of the basement was finally finished and we settled in to our respective rooms and just relaxed and recuperated from the cleaning and the partying, no hangovers though, at least for Tristan and I. Jade and Dominic didn't really fare as well, wonder why. "Did you enjoy the first part of the year?" Tristan said as he held me in his arms. "Yes, I did even more so because you were there. Um, I do need to talk about this guy I saw at the party that no one seemed to know. he didn't look like your brother, but he definitely gave me bad vibes." "Bad vibes? What did he look like?" "Well he had a mixture of white, red and black hair, it looked really nice. I know not the point. He had hazel eyes, and he was about six feet tall, but he was I everywhere I seemed to look no one I knew knew who he was, so I just let it go. He was smiling at me in this evil way it was malevolent. I just thought I'd let you know about it and see what you think". Tristan told me he didn't know who it was but he would look into him and reminded me that my necklace will protect me. I'm really not looking forward to him leaving on Sunday, I'm going to miss him madly, and that means I actually have to start school, and what is so fun about that? Other then, of course, living with my best friend of all time and bars, my boyfriend won't be around althoughh he could be here at the drop of a hat, so I suddenly feel better about it. Boyfriend started kissing me, I jumped up to lock my door so there would be no outside interruption, plopping oh-so inelegantly on to my bed I continued where he had left off making out was blissful on its own and then he made his way down my body and I knew what he was going to do I anticipated I wanted it and at once he sank his canines into my thigh and the intoxicating feeling took over me, it was better every time, this time however I started to moan. Tristan must have noticed how much I enjoyed it even though he never said a word verbally or mentally we continued for a little longer then the times before but he stopped and said he didn't want to take too much because didn't want to cause any changes in my health (such as me being alive); I was planning on saying something about me being a vampire but I let it go for another time, perhaps when we've been boyfriend and girlfriend for more than a few weeks. Being a vampire would be awesome I would love to do that! However I know this is a conversation for a different time. Till then it will be fun, and we'll go to sleep. After Autumn fell asleep I slipped out to do some investigating into who the guy she told me about was. He sounded familiar to me, but I don't want to say anything until I'm sure. Walking out around Macomb is awful lonely compared to everywhere else I've lived in the past 380 years, and for a college town, I'm surprised not to see more people out at two in the morning. As I was walking around in this almost barren college town I ran into the person Autumn was talking about or rather he ran into me, quite literally. "You're Autumn's guy, right?" "How do you know my girlfriend or me for that matter? "Well, we have a common acquaintance you and I, you know him well, your brother. Autumn however I go to school here I've seen her around it wasn't until this summer that I knew she knew about vampires I always knew she was fond of them. Then of course you're darling brother Jaiden filled me in, oh don't worry, stop looking at me like that I haven't decided where I am on the fence yet." "Well stay on the side of the fence that keeps you away from her. She's very well aware of you and she told me she feels that you are bad news and since you know my brother and are probably at least entertaining the thought of doing my little brother's bidding. Who are you anyway I know most of my sibling's friends." "Well it makes sense you have no knowledge of me, even though I'm from Waukegan and even when to high school with your girlfriend, my name is Jake, Jake Towerson. Feel free to check on that, be seeing you." Like that he was off and gone I left it went it and went back to bed I'll deal with it when I see my brother which of course would be on Sunday, that's a given, he's playing with a fire that he can't put out. The week went on pretty uneventfully I could feel that there was something bothering Tristan but I didn't want to pry into it I'm sure he'll tell me in time. The night scene was way better than the day scene we went to the local bars all night. My favorite bar is the place because it has so much more room to have fun and dance while you drink. On the other hand the Fo,rum was nice because I get text messages from them letting me get into the bars for free, which is awesome even if I have the boyfriend who pays for everything. We went between the two bars all week long. Personally, I think that our alcohol resistance has shot up a ton since we've been drinking so much. Well I guess once the guys go home we'll have a chance to rest from all the intake of booze. Like I said the week went by pretty uneventfully, until the guy that gave me the creeps showed up at the bar, only this time he wasn't alone, the person he was with was Tristan's little brother. I tapped Tristan on the shoulder, but by the time I did his brother was standing behind him smiling at me. I was shocked that he used his vampire speed in public like that; I realized I was the only person that noticed. Fearing that a conflict would break out of this meeting, I stepped in between them just before they started talking to each other. "Little brother, what are you doing here and why are you so close? Do you seek to end the miserable thing you call a life?" "Older brother no I do not I'm simply here visiting a friend of mine, Jake, and he told me about the party the ladies had and I couldn't resist meeting your girlfriend. Hi Autumn, my name is Jaiden" I replied "I know who you are thanks. Tristan I was right, you two look nothing alike, does your brother know who the better looking one is?" "Well thank you Autumn, if I hadn't known before, I definitely know now. Isn't that right, Tristan?" Jaiden managed to smile as he sneered at me. "Well you know Autumn has taste. I am however curious how your little friend got into the girls' house for the party since he wasn't invited in by anyone that knew them or them themselves?" "Well, thank you for finally acknowledging my existence. Someone else invited me in and left, thus me making my entrance—" Interrupting him as I realized who he was I jumped, "Jake? I didn't know you were a vampire considering you weren't last time I saw you and that you went to school here!" "Well, now you do, but why would you? Before we weren't really friends in high school, you were more of the girl who didn't prefer to talk to anyone while at school; it was obviously something you didn't enjoy; which is why you never knew I had a crush on you and of course that was because you always had another older boyfriend, I see that trend hasn't changed." I flushed "You're right, but staying on the right dating path got me him, so I would say it wasn't all bad. How have—" "Well, as nice as it is to chat with you, I think I see Autumn's roommate waving us over we have to go, I'll see you at home Jaiden, try not to break in this time." As we left the boys just smiled at me while boyfriend on the other hand was busy warning me about how his brother would be watching me, and asked me if I was ever into witchcraft; which would have been an odd question from anyone else we partied and drank the evening away I'd say night but the bars closes at two a.m. So we simply hit the hay when we got home and Tristan mention needing to feed in the morning and teaching me some rituals. The next morning boyfriend and I showered (separately, so don't go getting any dirty thoughts) and then we eat, well he ate I laid in bed enjoying the passion. When he was finished he told me that when I come home he was going to teach me some rituals to protect myself from people or vampires of course, I was hoping he was going to teach me today but he let me know that there isn't any place close by to get all the stuff one needs, and he sadly also told me that he wouldn't be seeing me until thanksgiving but the best part was he'd be here to drive me back, which I loved. When Sunday came, we took Dominic to the train station at an ungodly time of the morning, when nothing should be awake while Tristan would be here for another few hours just relaxing until he instantly was home. "I wish I could go with you". 'I know you do, but you have school and maybe I'll rearrange some things to see you sooner but you can always call me" he whispered in my head and with that I drifted to sleep. I must have been really tired because I woke up hours later to a note on my bed that read: You look so cute when you sleep, sorry to leave while you're dreaming, but I have some things I need to take care of with my brother. I'll miss you and talk to you tonight! Have a good day of classes. Love, Tristan. I realized I had to get ready for classes and Jade must of realized the same thing because when I walked into her room she was running around frantically talking about getting something nice to wear and trying to figure out how early she and I needed to get up to get to our classes (she's just that organized). She checked the weather, and I calmly went into her closet and picked out the shirt that her boyfriend bought her and a blue jean skirt with her patented red flip flops, set her alarm clock to six in the morning, and sat her on the bed, the only thing I had to say to her was "done, now what are we having for dinner?" I know she was stressing even though we were taking all the same classes together but talking about dinner made her laugh, and despite how much I hate pizza, that's what we had, though it was homemade, without sauce (the only way I like it). I still had to pick out my outfit, now unlike Jade, I'm so not a morning person and am not getting all dressed up to sit on my butt, so I'm wearing my sweats and a tank top. I mean, we start classes at eight in the morning and are done by eleven in the morning every day, we wanted to get classes out of the way, which is really nice since I plan to take naps after class. We ate dinner and hit the hay, resting for the first day of class. When in bed my phone started to ring I didn't even bother to look at the caller ID because I thought it was Tristan, I was wrong. "Hello" "Hello Autumn, would you like to invite me in so I can get to know you?" "Well Jaiden, I don't know how you obtained my phone number but I won't be inviting you in nor do I want to get to know you" and hung up my phone rang again and it was Tristan calling to tell me goodnight and I let him know that his brother just called me he sounded upset but said goodnight and he'd talk to me later. With that I drifted to sleep with dreams about my dream boyfriend. I couldn't believe that Jaiden actually has the nerve to talk to her how he got her number I don't know but that doesn't matter, he's around here anyway, and he's really starting to get on my last nerve, which I didn't think was possible after over two centuries without him, he obviously never changes. "Brother I know you're here, don't make me kill you without the pleasure of looking you in the eyes" as I finished my statement my brother slithered out of the shadows, I'd call him a snake but I wouldn't want to insult the snakes of the world. "Give me one reason not to rip you shreds and leave you in the sun to burn." "Again big brother you are not happy to see me and your girlfriend has no interest in getting to know me, doesn't she know that one day she'll be family, either by my fang or yours; it's your choice but it will be made. Before you decide that you truly want to kill the only brother you have, you should realize well, I'm the only brother you have." "No brother you were simply raised to believe you were my only brother when in fact not only do we have another brother but a sister as well, they are twins, but that's beside the point we all know about you and we are all sick of you. Stay away from Autumn or the only family you'll be seeing are our parents." With my own speed, I pinned my brother to a wall and seriously considered bleeding him dry, but his aura of evil was like a skunks smell keeping me at bay. There was a glint of intrigue in his face followed by a blank expression. He was working out a plan, what plan I wasn't sure but I could almost see the wheels turning in that maniacal head of his, perhaps it would be easier just to kill him now and just be done with all of it. Something in his eyes tells me it might be better to just let things play out and stop him then. It's not like Autumn wants anything to do with him. In the mean time I will have to get a hold of the twins. The candlelight flickered incessantly in the meticulously drawn circle that Autumn had outlined with ash and salt, its warm glow casting dancing shadows against the worn walls of her grandmother’s ancient ritual room. Outside, the soft spring wind rustled through the newly budded branches of cherry trees, creating a gentle, melodic sound that felt almost like a whisper. Meanwhile, inside the sanctuary of her past, the Veil waited and listened with an almost sentient presence.Seated cross-legged on an intricately woven mat, Autumn surrounded herself with a collection of ancestral artifacts—delicate bones that spoke of forgotten lives, smooth stones imbued with ancient energy, vibrant feathers from elusive birds, and the softly breathing Book of the Veilwalker, its pages fluttering as if sensing the charged atmosphere. The remnants of the Hollow fire still etched traces on her skin: a faint silver burn that curled around her collarbone like a serpent, and a tattoo-like mark of dark thr
The estate was silent.Too silent. Not the kind of silence that comforted, but the kind that watched—breathing behind the walls, listening through the floorboards. It wasn’t absence. It was attention.Autumn descended the grand staircase, her bare feet cool against the stone. Each step echoed louder than the last, until even her breath felt like a trespass. The pendant at her throat no longer glowed. The Book—keystone of all things hidden—sat unmoving on its pedestal, closed and unreadable. Somewhere beyond the garden wall, a wind howled once and died mid-cry.The world held its breath.Tristan met her in the parlor, a shadow amid lamplight. He wore no shirt, only a dark pair of linen pants that clung to his hips like silk. His chest was bare but not unmarked—etched with ancient sigils drawn in salt and ash, a protective rite older than the bones beneath the house. He hadn't needed it in centuries. But tonight was different.“You feel it,” she said, her voice barely more than a breath
The mirror stopped smiling first. Autumn shattered it anyway. The council met at midnight, deep beneath a hollowed-out basilica carved into the earth. Pillars wrapped in ivy framed a long obsidian table. Around it sat the supernatural elite—witches, vampires, spiritwalkers, and those who had survived too many blood moons. Autumn entered last, her pendant glowing. She felt their eyes on her, weighing her, testing the limits of what she had become. Tristan was at her side. Jade and Dominic sat across the chamber, both pale and serious. Jade’s power pulsed in waves, laced with something new—panic barely contained by bone.Autumn spoke first. “I saw Mara.”Whispers erupted. One of the elders, an albino vampire with no eyes, leaned forward. “The Hollow is waking.”“She tried to pull me under,” Autumn said. “She’s inside the veil.”“No,” Jade said softly. “She’s beneath it.”That silenced the room.“What does she want?” asked Dominic.Autumn’s voice barely rose. “Me.”---Later, in the quie
The heavy side doors of the cathedral crashed open, allowing Autumn to surge into the bitter cold of the night. Her breath emerged in sharp, frosty clouds, each exhale crisp in the frigid air. Just behind her, Tristan raced to keep up.“Autumn—wait!” he called, his voice laced with urgency. She whirled around to face him, fury and betrayal sparking in her hazel eyes. “You knew!”“I didn’t agree to the announcement,” he replied, his tone defensive.“But you knew they would do it!” She shouted, her words reverberating off the stone walls of the empty lot, starkly contrasting the stillness around them. “You let them bind me to you without my consent!”Tristan clenched his jaw, frustration etched across his features. “The bond was already there. They only made it visible.”“That doesn’t make it right!” she retorted, anger coursing through her veins. An oppressive silence hung heavy in the air, thick with a mix of power and panic. Suddenly, a sinister whisper curled out of the shadows: “Ru
The invitation arrived bound in black silk and sealed with crimson wax, featuring a symbol stamped into it: a crescent moon caught in a serpent’s coils. Autumn's name was elegantly inscribed in silver ink. There was no return address, no sender.Tristan stared at it, as if it might explode.“You’re not going,” he said firmly.Autumn arched an eyebrow. “That’s not your decision to make.”He closed his eyes and inhaled deeply through his nose. “Autumn… this is Jaiden’s seal.”She paused for a moment. “Then I absolutely have to go.”---The masquerade took place in an abandoned cathedral outside Chicago, now restored to haunting opulence. Candles floated mid-air, and crimson velvet draped the walls. A slow, ancient waltz pulsed through the space like a heartbeat.Autumn entered alone. Her mask was silver with veined onyx lace, and her gown—a deep emerald satin—hugged her curves as if it had been tailored for seduction. Beneath her collarbone, her pendant pulsed.Minutes later, Tristan en
The Mirabella Estate loomed before her, a grand relic of a bygone era, its timeworn stones draped in thick, clinging ivy and shadowed by the encroaching dusk. Through the dimly-lit windows, flickering amber light emitted an eerie warmth, but behind the glass lay secrets that pulsed with an ancient energy, concealed from the world outside.Autumn stood frozen at the wrought iron gate, her fingers curling around the chilled metal, feeling both the weight of its history and the frigid air of the approaching night. Beside her, Tristan remained silent, his presence a solid wall of unease. His discomfort was palpable—she could sense it in the stiff tension of his jaw and the protective brush of his hand against the small of her back, as if he were prepared to whisk her away at a moment’s notice should anything go awry.“It’s just a house,” she murmured, attempting to dispel the growing anxiety that settled like a heavy fog around her.“It’s never just a house when it remembers blood,” Trist
