Hannah's POV

I pointed to the tube attached to my nose and yelled, "Why would you do this to me? I broke my leg searching for the truth about their deaths! They even poured bleach down my esophagus! I've had to eat through this feeding tube ever since!

"You watched me spend five years living like a wreck! How could you not feel sorry for me?"

I looked at Mom as tears streamed down my face, searching for some kind of answer in her expression.

Mom turned away, though her voice remained cold and unyielding.

"What could I have done? You're both my daughters. Chris and Queenie got down on their knees and begged me to let them be together. That's how I found out that they're still alive!

"Queenie has never been in good health. She couldn't possibly handle the distress, so I had to hide the truth from you!"

She turned around, grabbed my hand, and said softly, "I know you're upset, but it's all in the past now. They're having a hard time raising their daughter in Havenport, too.

"Your father and I don't even dare to visit them. Can you just let this go and pretend you don't know anything about this?"

She coaxed me gently, saying, "I'll ask Aunt Lily to introduce you to a nice man instead, Hannah."

I felt a lump in my throat as I yanked my hand away from her grip.

"Do you even think of me as your daughter anymore, Mom? You gave in because you said Queenie begged you to let her be with Chris. What about me, then? I cried at Chris' grave until I passed out.

"There was even a point when I wanted to jump off the building to join Chris in the afterlife. Did you ever think about telling me the truth, then? You were never on my side, Mom!"

Mom went pale, clutching her chest as she dropped onto the couch. "You're going to be the death of me! You can't take it out on me just because you couldn't hang onto your own man!

"Queenie has always been better than you at everything, so it's only natural for Chris to fall for her! Why can't you just let this go? Why do you insist on ruining everyone's lives?"

I suddenly felt a ringing in my ears. "They're the ones who betrayed me! Queenie was the homewrecker who stole Chris from me! Do you expect me to be grateful to them, Mom?"

"That's enough!" Dad pushed the door open, looking exasperated. "What exactly do you want to do right now? They're legally married! They already have a daughter together! You call Queenie a homewrecker, but if you keep going after them now, you're the one who will look like the homewrecker!"

I turned pale as I watched Mom and Dad defend Queenie. Suddenly, I burst out laughing.

"I want them to tell me the truth themselves! If they don't, I'll make sure their reputations are destroyed!"

I returned to my room and slid down against the door. I looked at Chris' smiling face in our wedding photo on the wall. Chris' funeral portrait was still on the desk, and his clothes still hung in the closet.

In the past five years, I had held his photo and cried until dawn and swore I would make sure he got justice. It turned out that everything was a complete lie.

I pulled up my old messages with Chris.

"I miss you so much, Chris. I'm in so much pain!"

"I don't think I can keep going… Is it okay if I accompany you in the afterlife?"

"I swear I'll get justice for you and Queenie!"

Chris had never replied to a single message I'd sent before.

I sent him another message. "I know the truth now, so let's put an end to this, Chris."

Chris responded instantly this time. "Alright."

The next day, I heard a familiar voice outside.

Chris said softly, "Queenie needs to pick up a few things from the grocery store, so she'll be up shortly."

I yanked open the door and locked eyes with Chris. He was taller, thinner, and looked more mature than before.

Chris noticed my feeding tube and froze. "What is that, Hannah?"

I smiled wryly. "You must be really happy now, right, Chris? I nearly died trying to get justice for you. I even had part of my esophagus removed while searching for the truth! Is this what you wanted, Chris?"

Chris instantly put on a disgusted look as the guilt in his eyes vanished.

"You still haven't fixed your bad habit of lying, Hannah! What do you even mean by abduction and assault back then? I hired those guys to keep you from finding out the truth. Why would they hurt you?

"You clearly did this to yourself! You can't just put all of this on me!"

In my third year in Havenport, I finally managed to make the down payment on a small apartment with money I had earned myself.I invited Marissa over for a housewarming celebration, and when we ran out of wine halfway through the meal, I went downstairs to buy more.I had just walked out of the supermarket when someone stepped in front of me. It was none other than Chris. He had gotten noticeably thinner, with a sickly complexion, bloodshot eyes, and gray streaks at his temples. He hadn't even bothered to shave his face.He looked at me, his eyes instantly brightening. He grabbed my hand, looking visibly excited. "It's really you, Hannah! I knew you weren't dead!"I quickly pulled my hand away and wiped the spot he had touched. I kept my voice completely calm while talking to him, as if I were facing a stranger. "I'm sorry, but you got me confused with someone else."Chris swayed on his feet before looking up at me in disbelief. "It's me—Chris! How could you possibly not recog

Tabitha ignored everything else and opened Twitter. She noticed that the post Hannah had written had climbed to the top of the local trending topics. Hannah had laid out everything that happened to her in the past five years—how Chris and Queenie had deceived her into believing they were dead, while they had actually been secretly building a life together. She had even described how Tabitha, Benjamin, and the other relatives had known the truth and kept it from her."You were the only person who was ever really on my side for the first 29 years of my life, Chris. You, however, were the one who killed our unborn child with your own hands. I'll never forgive you, Chris."You took my husband and took a lifetime of our parents' love, Queenie. Do you really think you've won? What you've won was only my scraps, Queenie! "You won't be able to have a good night's sleep from now on, since I'll always appear in your dreams to remind you that I died because of you!"I'll never call you M

In that instant, everyone in the medical examiner's office fell silent. Then, the older-looking police officer yanked the sleeve of the officer who spoke earlier and stepped in to smooth things over. "We're very sorry for your loss. Please handle Hannah's funeral arrangements and lay her to rest as soon as possible."As Chris and the others headed to the crematorium, the atmosphere was suffocating.Queenie was clearly unhappy with how things had turned out. "Hannah is already gone, so let's just give her a proper funeral and move on. We have to get on with our lives, after all."She tightened her grip on Jennie's hand when she noticed no one responded.Jennie suddenly started bawling. "I want to go home! I want to go home!"If this had been any other time, Chris would have immediately picked Jennie up and coaxed her. Tabitha would have dropped everything to fuss over her and soothe her.Chris, however, slammed his hand onto the horn this time. He turned to Jennie and yelled, "

In that instant, everyone in the hall fell silent.Tabitha was the first to snap out of it. "Who the hell are you? Get out of here! You're at a wedding, for crying out loud! How can you bring up something like that here? "Get them out of here, Benjamin!"Benjamin Stewart, Hannah's father, marched over and waved them off impatiently. "Get out of here! What kind of scam are you pulling here? You're actually pretending to be police officers, huh? You'd better leave this instant! Otherwise, I'll call the actual police!"Hearing that, the lead police officer furrowed his brow and pulled out his police ID. "If you don't believe me, you can take a look at my ID. I'm being completely serious here. "I'll ask again—who here is Hannah Stewart's next of kin?"Benjamin didn't even bother looking at the ID. He snatched it from the lead officer's hand and tossed it aside, yelling, "You're nothing but a damn fraud! Get the hell out of here! Can't you see that we're holding a wedding for ou

Queenie rushed out right behind Chris, pointing at me and sobbing uncontrollably. "How could you lay a hand on a six-year-old girl? If you have a problem with me, take it up with me, Hannah!"She shoved me hard after saying that, causing my palms to scrape against the ground and leaving a searing pain."I was the one who saved her!" I exclaimed as I looked over at Jennie.Jennie was pouting, her eyes bloodshot from crying. "I—"Queenie asked hurriedly, "Did she push you? Did she try to kill you, Jennie?"Jennie burst into tears at Queenie's harsh tone. "A-Aunt Hannah was the one who pushed me!"In that instant, everyone around fell silent, with those watching nearby looking at me with contempt."What kind of person would do this to a child?"Chris strode forward and grabbed my collar. "You can resent me all you want, but leave my daughter out of this!"He slapped me hard across the face after saying that, leaving one side of my face throbbing and swollen.Dad grabbed a water

Chris and I tumbled to the ground after he yanked me away from the guardrail. He grabbed my shoulders with bloodshot eyes and snapped, "Have you lost your mind, Hannah? What will happen to your parents if you jump now? What about Queenie? They'll never live down the shame and backlash!"I was stunned. It turned out that Chris had saved me just so Queenie wouldn't get dragged through the dirt.Chris panicked when I burst into tears. "Why are you suddenly crying?"He reached out to me, then withdrew his hand halfway. "Queenie and I talked it over. She has agreed to let you become Jennie's godmother. That should be enough, right, Hannah?"Chris' condescending, almost charitable tone made me burst out laughing.I grabbed his wrist and demanded, "When did you get involved with Queenie?"Chris instinctively looked away, unable to meet my eyes. "Please just drop it, Hannah…"I stared intently at him and snapped, "You'd better tell me this instant! I deserve to know what actually happ
