Chapter 7

Keegan had watched her walk back inside in his rearview mirror as he pulled out of the parking lot. It turned his insides to think of all those lush curves being seen by others than him. In all these years no one had ever sparked this type of reaction from him. Finding your mate truly was one of the most spectacular feelings a wolf could ever have. He had just dropped Chris back at his sister’s, due to the promise he had made. He had slight indigestion after shoveling the meal at Stella’s in his mouth as quick as possible. Hanson and Roderick played along since they could tell he was on edge.

Keegan only knew he needed to see her again and solve the mystery of her. She didn’t smell like a wolf, but she didn’t smell human either. Plus, that smoke and heat coming off her was curious. He has seen many different things in this long life, but that lady with fire in her eyes sent a thousand curiosities through his mind all at once. Most of them centered below her eyes, but hell after all he was still just a wolf in men’s clothing.

He pulled up outside the little club and noticed most of the cars were gone. Good, he thought, he can try to catch her as she’s leaving as he rushed through the door.

“Welcome back.” The stocky man who owned the club, Robert was his name, yelled out to him from behind the bar as he eyed Keegan down. “You just missed her, but if you head out the back you just might catch her.”

“Do you normally inform customers on how to catch your girls?”

“No, not normally, but then you are not a normal customer then either. Are you buddy?”

That the old man had recognized that he was different at all was interesting. He tried to get a read on him, but he couldn’t detect anything other than human coming from him.

“Well don’t waste your time trying to figure it out. She’s already moving quicker than you. You’ll lose out if you don’t hurry.”

Keegan speared him with his gaze. “I’ll be back.”

“I’m sure you will be. Curiosity always kills the cat.” Robert said with a grin.

Strange man. The place was empty in the back. All that was left was just the overwhelming smells of sweet pea, vanilla musk, and cupcake perfumes mingling in the air. Keegan slid out the back door to check the parking lot. Catching that wonderful scent on the ocean breeze. The old man was right she was already a distance from him. Putting on some speed and letting his wolf take the lead he followed the trail. After a few twists and turns, he ended up on the edge of the town. Staying out of the street lights he luckily caught up in time to see her just closing the front door of a little cottage.
