Chapter 3

Mila.

Although my head was stuck with the sudden drift in my life; I managed to keep a sane face and a levelled head as I walked over to where Michael and his family were.

Georgie was back with them, and by the looks of the scene must’ve probably outed me to his mother and stepfather about what I did to his twin sister.

My father glared at me with a heavy disappointment and the urge to throw a punch into that face of his floored my heart. He stood up, left Gretta’s side, and came to where I stood. Not too close, and simply a few steps away.

“My question is, why?” He quizzed as he crossed his arms over his chest.

I snickered loud enough for him to hear.

“Oh so you think this is funny? Is almost killing your sister funny to you?” His tone sounded aggravated.

“It is, but what’s funnier is that you’re finally looking at me, and yet you can’t see me.” I rolled into an actual fit of laughter, pulling out a confused expression from his face as he stared at me like I’ve gone mad.

“Look at me!” I stepped closer to him, flicking my index finger to point at me in demonstration to my words. “Look at me from the top…. straight down, tell me-“

“Erm darling, it’s not Mila’s fault. She’s just jealous and must have acted out of envy. You weren’t paying attention to her like you were doing with the twins, I think she did this to gain your attention,” Gretta butted into the conversation, jumping out of her seat to also come close to me.

“What the hell is wrong with you, Mila Aidava Jones? Why are you clothed in rags?” He thundered as fury went back to cloud his eyes.

Good, he sees me now.

“That’s-“

“You know I’ve been telling you for some time now that I need to discuss something important with you. It’s about this happening right now. It’s about how Mila started acting out to gain your attention because you stopped noticing her. I watched her burn all of her clothes, and all she had in the name of becoming the black sheep of the family. She probably thought of hurting Georgina to have you come for her since she got rid of her possessions and you still failed to notice her. I think she’s going through a lot,” the witch spoke up for me before I could even answer my own father. Her words were cunningly articulated and composed to sway my father on her side and have him condemn me the more.

I don’t care anymore. I mean, I stopped caring a long time ago - this doesn’t bother me.

“You what now?” My father’s eyes blazed with anger. “What got into you? When did you become so evil like your mother?”

“You’ll say no such thing about my mother!” My voice levelled against his as I countered that particular statement.

How dare he refer to my mother as an evil person when he’s no better. How dare he?!

“Did you just talk back to me? I’m cancelling your credit card, I’m freezing your accounts. You’re going to be on your own until you’ve sat down and reflected on your actions lately,” he passed out his judgement, and I nearly reeled back into another laughter.

“Oh please, as if I haven’t been on my own since my mother left, since you put her in jail. I’ve been on my own since then, and if you think it’s the perfect punishment for me now, then you might as well forget you gave birth to a daughter named Mila. But just before you forget, I have a few things to get off my chest.” I raised my index in his face as my glaring eyes fell on the witch by his side.

“Your attention is the last thing I’ll ever crave for. Those were her words, not mine.” I pointed at his wife, “She confiscated my assets and everything I own because she’s an evil witch who, for no reason, disliked my peace. For the past few months now, I’ve been the maid of the house, the one to clean, to cook, and to tend to each of their various needs. Whilst you, my father, lived and stayed with us but couldn’t notice or observe what I’ve been put to live through,” I paused to push a deep breath.

“I gave Georgina a juice she’s allergic to today not to gain your stupid attention but to give them a taste of their own medicine. I guess what I want you to know now is that I wish to drop your last name, and you can forget about ever having a daughter named Mila. You and your perfect family of evil bitches can screw each other till your brains pops shit.” I finished up with my father and turned to face his wife.

“You know I’d promise to come for you, but I think I’ll leave the job for karma. Enjoy yourself while it lasts, karma is definitely gonna catch soon and faster than you can imagine,” I gave her a piece of my mind, then turned around to face Georgie.

Went to him with a sardonic smile on my face, “You and your twin sister however, can suck on this,” I put up my middle fingers on display.

“Fuck you all, I’ve had enough.”

“Where are you going? Where can you go? Or have you forgotten you can’t live a life without my approval?” The bastard voice of the man that used to be my father shrilled annoyingly into my ears.

I rolled my eyes before I whirled my head around to face him. “Yeah I’d like to see you try and camp me more in that lifeless house of yours. I’m out, and I mean out for good.”

“Mila Aidava Jones, I swear to God if you walk out on us right now, consider yourself out of this family forever. I’ll write your name off my will, and nothing I own will belong to you again in the future. So, think twice before you decide to become nothing and destroy your future?”

I scoffed at him. “You can choke on your riches and wealths, Michael. They never interest me anyways.” I shrugged at him before I walked off.

I didn’t expect a confrontation with my family to feel this good. I’m oddly at peace saying those words to them and cutting myself off from them.

Now let’s see what the universe has in store for making me cross paths with Dawson Briggs.

I arrived at the spot he told me to meet back with when I’m done and he was already there, waiting for me.

“Let's get married,” I said to him as I arrived in front of him.

“When you say it like that, it sounds really cringe and not something I’d like to hear,” he rebuked as he led the way.

“Well it was your idea, and your proposal,”

“I believe you had the choice to refuse or accept. I’d appreciate your silence now,” he spoke in a voice so gentlemanly and steel at the same time.

“Good luck getting me to do what you want.” I laughed at him. “Heads-ups, I’m one of those feisty wives your mother probably warned you to steer clear of.” I smirked..

Chapter 4 Mila. “I now pronounce you. Mr and Mrs Briggs, you may kiss your bride,” the registrar announced with an unusual enthusiasm, a bright smile on her face as her expression urged us to carry out her demand. I looked at the man seated next to me; my husband; he is now my husband. Wow, this is surreal. He soon locked eyes with me, his gaze cold and empty like a windy night as he stared deep into the abyss my eyes were to him. I watched his head lean towards my face as his soft gaze trailed downward to my lips. “Sure thing,” he mouthed before he pulled me in for a kiss all of a sudden. I opened my lips up for him instinctively, awed at how he passionately weaved the kiss, his tongue thrust in range around my mouth, and my lips locked into a rhythmic dance with his. It was no tender kiss, but still, his rich taste of lavender mixed with mints shadowed the roughness of how he handled and dominated the kiss. He pulled away abruptly and adjusted himself back into his s

Chapter 2 Mila. Literally a few minutes later. My deed has turned the whole house into chaos. And before we know it, we’re all booted into dad’s Mercedes and on our way to the hospital. Georgina was in serious pain from the allergic reactions and probably yet to tell her mother that I was behind her condition because she was rather occupied with concern for her daughter than talking to me about what happened. My dad and Georgina’s twin brother tried asking me what happened, I only shrugged and told them I didn’t know. Georgie eyed me with doubts, but I stared back at him with a blank expression. I looked at my father to read the look in his own eyes, it was fear, and who was the fear for? My gaze fell back on Georgina, he was scared for her? For his step-daughter?! Today is the first time in nearly a year that he has seen me or spoken to me, and the first thing he said to me was asked how Georgina arrived at her condition. I hate him. I’ll never forgive him. If

Chapter 1 Mila. I woke up to the shrill sound of my alarm. I yawned out a loud groan as I stretched out my wrecked muscles, my body simultaneously lifting up the mat I was laid on. This is my house, and it’s no surprise that I live here in the basement, with only a mat to sleep on and two other rags to switch when the other gets sweaty or dirty. It’s no surprise for me because I watched the story of Cinderella as a kid, and although I wished to become a fairytale princess back then. I never specifically asked to become Cinderella before the magic words. There are little twists in my story. Father left my mother for a skinny model who is a single mother, then stole me from my mother by sending her to jail and assuming my full custody. As if my life wasn’t ruined enough, he left the skinny model a year later to be with a business partner of his, the final villain of my story. My father’s new wife, Gretta Gomez Jones. He married my father shortly after his separation with t
