THE LAKE

-Two things: I need you to accompany me to a place. And don't tell anyone.

I slowly close my locker door and turn to see the least expected person inviting me out. Elder William is leaning against the wall looking at me in a nonchalant tone.

-Excuse me? -I clutched my notebooks to my chest.

-What you heard," he says, "I need you to walk me somewhere. That's all.

I looked around to make sure no one was watching us because this really seems like a joke.

-What did you smoke?

He rolls his eyes.

-Are you coming or not? My patience is wearing thin.

I thought about it. It was very strange for Elder to talk to me and worse, to invite me, but I had made a plan before: to approach them to find out what they were up to. And it seems that Elder is making it too easy for me.

-Why do you want me to come? Why did you invite me? -I wanted to know.

-All right, if you don't want to go, don't go," he rejoins, making a pretense of leaving, but I stop him.
