Nadia’s POV

I snap my eyes open as I force myself to wake up from the horrible nightmare i just had.

There was blood everywhere, on the floor, on the table, my hands and dress filled with blood. I get up from the bed and rub my eyes slightly.

Having tried to avoid Lorenzo the next two days that followed, it feels like my heart is somehow at peace, and he has paid me no attention either, ignoring me like I didn’t exist in the mansion.

I only catch a glimpse of him whenever I look out thro

Nadia’s POVThe terrace is colder than I expected. The moment I stepped through the glass doors, the wind hit my face and made me pull my velvet wrap tighter around myself.I welcomed it. Anything was better than the heat and noise inside. From where I stood, I could see the gardens below. Snow covered parts of the hedges, and small lights had been placed along the paths. Beyond the estate, the city stretched into the distance, its lights scattered against the dark sky.For the first time that evening, I could breathe. I rested my hands against the stone railing. Marco was still inside, near the doors. I could see him through the glass, standing with his back straight and his attention fixed on the ballroom.I knew Lorenzo had ordered him to watch me. At least I wasn’t completely alone. Then I heard footsteps. Slow and unhurried. I didn’t have to turn around. “Beautiful view.”Peter. My shoulders tightened as he came to stand beside me. Too close. I kept my eyes on the gardens. “It

Nadia’s POVFor several seconds after Amato’s arrival, nobody moves. The ballroom has gone so quiet that I can hear the faint hum of the chandeliers overhead. Lorenzo stands in front of me, completely still. His shoulders are squared, his expression unreadable, and his eyes remain fixed on Amato.Around us, men shift uneasily. A few hands disappear beneath suit jackets. Nobody need to say what they were reaching for.I tighten my fingers around the back of Lorenzo’s jacket. Then a man’s voice comes from somewhere to our right.“D’Amato. You bring quite an entrance with you.”I turn. A man steps out from the alcove beside the VIP lounge, a glass of scotch in one hand.He looks nothing like the men surrounding him.His suit is slate gray, perfectly fitted, and his light brown hair is neatly combed back. He couldn’t have been much older than Lorenzo. There is something easy about the way he carries himself, as though he hadn’t just walked into the middle of a room where two rival famili

Nadia’s POVThe doors to the ballroom opens, and the noise hit me all at once. Music. Laughter. Glasses clinking.Voices layers over one another and I tighten my grip on Lorenzo’s arm. The room enormous, filled with crystal chandeliers, polished marble, dark wood, and more people than I can count. Men in expensive tuxedos stand in small groups, talking quietly. Women in gowns moves between them, covered in diamonds. At first glance, it looks like any other wealthy society gathering. Then I lo closer. These weren’t businessmen and socialites. These are the people who operates behind closed doors. Men who control territory. Men who had people killed.Men whose names never appear in newspapers unless someone had already paid for their silence. And now I am walking straight into the middle of them. With Lorenzo. The moment we enter, conversations began to fade.People turn. One by one, faces shift in our direction. I can feel their eyes on me. On Lorenzo. On the ring. My fingers tighten

Nadia’s POVThe library windows rattle whenever the wind picked up, but I barely notice anymore. I sit at the long mahogany table with my economics textbook open in front of me, surrounded by notes, loose papers, and two half-finished cups of coffee. Four days. That was how long I’d been going back to college. Four days of pretending I was normal. Every morning, Viktor drives me through the estate gates. Two other cars followed us, and there were always guards somewhere nearby once we reach campus. I spend six hours in lecture halls, taking notes, handing in assignments, and trying not to think about the men watching me from across the courtyard. Then, at three-forty-five, I’d get back into the SUV. The gates would close behind me. And I would be home. Home. I almost laugh at the word. The estate isn’t home. It is simply the place I am taken back to. I rub my forehead and try to focus on the page in front of me. I couldn’t. My mind keeps wandering. To the events of the nights.

Nadia’s POVEvening comes faster than I expect it to. I have just showered and put on a wool sweater because the cold is biting into my skin.Suddenly, the doors swing open and Lorenzo walks in. He closes the doors of the master suite shut with a loud bang. The luxury of the room — the hand-carved mahogany, the towering golden mirror, the deep velvet drapes that block out the moon — does nothing to soften the weight pressing down on my chest. Outside those estate gates, I spent six hours pretending to be a normal girl, sitting in lecture halls and breathing air that didn’t taste anything like Lorenzo’s world. But the clock crosses past three-forty-five, the armored SUV brought me back, and now the debt collector is here.Lorenzo stands near the foot of the massive king-sized bed, peeling off his dark blazer and slinging it casually over a leather chair. He unbuttons his cuffs, rolling the sleeves up his forearms with slow, precise movements. Every movement he makes is relaxed with

Nadia’s POV The first thing I notice is how quiet the car is. Not peaceful. Just quiet. The kind of silence that makes every little sound stand out — the hum of the engine, the tires against the road, the faint click of the turn signal. I sit in the back of the black SUV with my hands wrapped around the strap of my tote bag. I hadn’t realized how tightly I was holding it until my fingers starts to hurt. Beside me, Viktor stares through the windshield, his attention shifting between the road and the mirrors. He has barely spoken since we left the estate. I can’t blame him. Lorenzo has given him one job. Get me to campus. Make sure I stay there. Bring me home. That is it. I look through the tinted window. The gates of the estate are behind us now. For months, those gates has been the first thing I see whenever I wonder how far away I am from freedom. Now they are disappearing behind me. I should have been happy. Instead, I feel strangely nervous. “Thirty minutes,” Viktor s
