Lily's POV

"Don't," I snapped as he stepped toward me, one hand outstretched as if to me aid. "Don't come any closer."

The words were harder than I meant them to be, but I couldn’t stop them. Every sense in me was hollering, Stop this foolishness right now. Men who did you harm did not turn into your savior. Men who abused you didn’t put their lives on the line to protect you, not unless they wanted something in return.

Captain Morris and the rest of the guards were fanning out around the clearing, searching for evidence that the pack would return. Their fighting styles were clean and practiced but I could see the tension in their shoulders, the way they never let their hands stray far from their weapons. We were in hostile territory and everyone knew it.

But somehow, they seemed far too unimportant in comparison to the man standing ten feet in front of me, close enough that I could feel the draw of our unfinished mate bond like a physical thing pulling at my chest.

  • Forbidden Love: The Alpha Rejected Luna Second Chance    Chapter 92

Lily's POVDarkness enveloped me in thick water, pressing my awareness from every angle. I knew myself to be in this state of hanging between life and death, this liminal place where time was different and memories were as real as physical sensation. But something was wrong. The memories that had suddenly been coming back in perfect clarity as part of my spiral were once again being lost, slipping through my mind like water through my fingers. The faces I was just beginning to recognize, the voices I was about to pin a name to — it all was melting back into the whole blurred mess that is trauma and suppressed memories.I concentrated, struggled to hold onto what I knew, on the facts of who had ordered my torture and why. But the poison flushing through my veins was doing more than trying to kill me—it was blurring out the very memories I needed most.“No,” I tried to tell her, but my body wouldn’t work. I was a prisoner in my own head, miserably observing the years of buried truth re

Darius's POVThe flatline tone slashed through me like a knife, a high-pitched electronic wail that proclaimed the thing I dreaded most. Lily had gone lifeless on the med table, her heart no longer beating as alarms started screeching all over the wing."No," I gasped, lunging across the bed towards her as Dr. Matthews and his crew sprang into motion around her motionless frame."Clear!" shouted the doctor, placing the defibrillation paddles on her chest. "Everyone back!"Her body convulsed as the current surged through her, but the monitor stayed flat. Dr. Matthews felt her pulse, then geared up for another attempt."Again! Clear!"I was treated to a front row view of what should have been mine and Storm’s future and tumbled into the deep freeze each time they failed and death settled ever more deeply into my bones. I felt it through the incompletely mated bond, felt her grow dimmer with each second.“Let’s go Lily,” I whispered in desperation. "Don't you dare leave me now. Not when,

Lily's POVConsciousness ebbed and flowed like waves breaking on a far-off shore, one moment washing me toward the light, the next sucking me back into darkness. In the gaps between sleeping and waking I flickered around in memories that now seemed more substantial than the present, reliving moments in my life that I had spent years pretending never happened.I was eighteen and back in the great hall before the pack as Darius uttered the words that would shatter my world to nothingness. Only this time it was more vivid, more detailed than it had ever been before. And I could see things that I hadn’t seen, or allowed myself to see, in my shock and heartbreak — the tone of his voice, the way he seemed to grapple with the words, the unfinished quality of what should have been a last break.“I, Darius, Alpha of the Moonshade Pack, reject you.” I had looked at pain there, at reluctance, but I had been too young and heartbroken to understand what it meant. The recollection slid away beneath

Darius's POVThe palace halls had never been as long as they were as I ran to the infirmary, Lily becoming more and more heavy with unconsciousness at every step. That unearthed and incomplete mate bond bore the echo of that pain – a constant reminder of how close I came to losing her forever.Dr. Matthews was waiting when I pushed open the double doors, and his medical team was ready with supplies and equipment. The old doctor gave one look at Lily's plight and, without a word, began shouting orders to his helpers.“Lay her on the exam table, right now,” he ordered, his hands already in motion to check pulse and breathing. “I want hot water, I want some clean linen, and I want my emergency surgical kit. Move!"I was reluctantly led to let Lily go to their care, took a step back to allow them space to work, but I couldn't go very far away from her. Our mate bond, the one thing that kept me anchored in this chaos, became a desperate lifeline as the medical team bustled around her."Alp

Darius's POVLily’s collapse made ice flow through my veins. The next second she was limp in my arms, her flaming anger replaced by a deathly pale face in the torchlight.“She’s going to shock,” announced Captain Morris grimly as he fell to one knee beside us to take her pulse. "She's losing blood worse than what we first believed, and tonight's events have put just a bit too much on her."I held her in my arms, noticing how much lighter she felt, how brittle her otherwise strong body felt. Even in the flickering torch light, the Luna mark on her arm was glowing softly through the bandages.“How close is the nearest place of safety?” I inquired, already knowing the response would amount to too damn far.“The old hunting lodge is a couple of miles to the south, but it’s sat empty for years. Nothing in the way of medical supplies, nothing in the way of proper facilities to treat someone in her state.""And back to pack territory?""Five miles, minimum. Through the land unforgiving, lugg
