Max's POV

It has been difficult to sleep a wink, but when I had been able to, I tried everything to push away the image of Emma curled around Edward out of my mind. I didn't want to think about the possibility of that happening even when I knew that there was a massive chance of it happening.

She was in love with me or might still be in love with me, and that was one thing I was so sure about. My eyes settled on the wall clock, the apartment empty and hollow the same way my heart was.

I inhaled deeply as I tried to drag myself out of bed when the bell rang. My feet traipsed across as I made my way to it, when I saw Emerald leaning against it.

I could have shoved her away, insisting that I didn't want anything to do with her, but I knew that was almost impossible. She would come around like a pest, demanding to be around me. An annoying one.

“You look as if you went through hell. Weren't you able to sleep last night?” She inquired as she tried to make her way in when my hand settle
