Josh's POV

I was unable to take in the cookie I had in-between my finger immediately I heard the word Darren had just said. What exactly does he mean by Lina was in love with him? Or had interest in him?

Has he even taken a proper look at himself in the mirror to consider if he was her type first of all?

“Let me have that” Max slipped the cookie off his finger, throwing it in-between his lips before he closed his eyes shut, savouring how sweet and perfect it tasted.

“That is good, your mum right? I have missed her cooking”

My mother was hell of a cook but that wasn't what I was here for, what I was here for was the sudden interference of Darren, why exactly does he think he can just step in here, say words like that and be left alone?

Eyes were already on me and Max, because everyone knew what exactly happened whenever anyone professed their love for Lina, we made sure whoever it was immediately detoxified such feelings or so called love for her.

We had always been doing that, and even though Max did so to protect his sister and he thought I was just happy to tag along, I had an ulterior motive, all I was doing was keeping her to myself for when it would be perfect for me to get her

I had never given up hope and I wasn't about to do so right now so I took a step forward, attempting to show Darren that lina was untouchable when a hand wrapped itself around my wrist.

I turned, almost livid at whoever it was when Max seemed to have a wide smile on his face, was I imagining things or was this actually happening?

“I had a talk with Lina this morning and I told her it would be selfish of me to keep stopping her from going on dates with guys, you know she will need the experience” he relayed to me.

Flicking my head at him, I turned so stunned that he had done so, where was the Max who had sworn that no one else would have her? That he was going to make sure she had a good husband, one whom he will find himself? Things kept coming up every single time and it was shocking.

And Lina, why was it that she didn't say a word to me? I had expected her to say that much, all I expected was the truth from her.

My words came out pained, to me but I was so sure Max would have never felt it.

“ Do you think you are doing the right thing? I mean, you can't just do that, and beside you know nothing about Darren that you will give your permission just like that”

“ I don't” his face blossomed into a tender smile which had me wondering what exactly was funny in all I had just said.

The woman I loved was being taken away under my nose and he had done so, why was he so cruel?

“ But he came to me last night, asking for permission to take her out, like a true gentleman, he asked me, Josh, I was so shocked but I knew I had to accept”

“ Why?” I wanted to know.

“What do you mean by why?”

“ Why do you think he is a true gentleman? You barely even know him, or anything about him and you gave your consent, I know you have always been wanting to sure of her spouse or her boyfriend so this is coming as a shock to me”

“ Uhhh” his hand tapped my chest.

“ Wow, that is intense,are you pissed because he didn't come to you? I know we both have been on this and it would have been selfish of me to act all alone,I know how much you care about Lina, just like I do and it was stupid of me”

Just like you my ass, I wanted her for life, not just for keeps, she was different from all the other girls I have been with, those didn't give me the excitement I get from just talking to Lina.

I didn't get the hot embers crawling through my veins with them, didn't get all agitated and wanting to be a better person, didn't want to prove that I was the best with them, but with Lina I did all that.

When I knew she was watching the last hockey game we had, I scored a goal just so she could etched that in her mind, I kept doing every single thing for her to notice me and I wouldn't do so for any other person who wasn't her and that was because she was worth it all, and that wasn't going to change.

“That isn't it, I mean, I didn't know about it and it should be shocking, but I just want to be sure he is a good choice for her and that's all, if you say he is then you have a good choice there, he will take good care of her”

He clasped my hand, pushing me closer to him when I noticed eagle eyes staring at me, Emily. What was she doing here staring at me?

“ Hubby” she screamed from down the hall, but I didn't turn my head, not wanting to give her whatever it was she was about to do

Max gave me a gentle jab as her heels click clacked over at me. “ Here comes your fiance, the one you have always wanted”

“ She isn't” I pointed out, I was never going to say that she was the one I loved even though I had a gun pointed to my head.

“I have been trying to get across to you, I never knew Lina was with Darren, I am sorry for the words I used last night, I shouldn't have said those to you two”

“ What words?” Max chipped in suspicion, I didn't tell him a thing and here she was about to blow my cover when she was supposed to act mature.

“ I saw Lina and Josh in the garden Max, and we had an altercation, which didn't end well because I had the wrong view about things and it might have led to something heated, I wouldn't have said that if I had known you weren't like that”

“ I'm lost, can someone fill me in?”

“I walked in on me talking to Lina,and thought I had something to do with her” I chewed on my lips while I told Max whose hands went to his chest, hollering.

“ You shouldn't think like that, Josh is the last person who will ever be attracted to Lina, he practically hates her and they have never seen eye to eye, you don't know how hard I had tried to get them not to find each other, they aren't ever going to be a couple, Emily, you have your man all to yourself”

“ I know that now Max” the deceitful snake of a human spouted out,trying to hold my hands when I shielded it away. What exactly was she trying to prove with that? What if Max had taken it the wrong way?

“ I have a sparring class” I excused myself, leaving Max with Emily, a long glance at Lina who stood at the end of the hall, watching with Darren had me slipping my phone out as I texted.

Date night,7pm. Meet me at the school field

When her phone pinged, Darren asking who it was, I listened for what she would say when her voice came out gruff

“ Nothing, it's just a broadcast message” and only then was I able to step out with a smile eager to see her tonight.
