Chapter 4: The return

A month after the wedding.

Marc and Erica returned from their honeymoon.

They both travelled through Europe for three weeks. Erica found Marc distracted a few times but didn’t care where his thoughts had drifted to. He was hers now. They were married. It wouldn’t be long before he marks her as his mate. She thought he would do that every time they slept together, but he wouldn’t. She can always make him. What was the rush now, she thought.

Marc dutifully visited the places Erica wanted. He woke up every morning earlier than her to work out. That was the only time of the day he had to himself. Erica was always around, was always excited to see places, and wanted to have sex all the time. Marc had made a promise to be a good husband. He wasn’t one to go back on his words.

“Dad wants to meet us for dinner,” Erica announced stepping out of her private plane. A car waited for them right next to the plane and several bodyguards stood in watch.

“Sure.”

The dinner lasted an hour and spanned over five courses.

They retired for a drink to Tobias’s study and Erica filled her father in on all the ongoings in her life. While listening to his daughter, go on about Europe, Tobias looked at Marc. His gaze was dominant and assertive. Satisfied with his daughter’s recount, Tobias was assured that Marc was keeping his word.

“Let’s check up on Lisa,” suggested Erica.

She hadn’t heard from Lisa in a few days and was certain Lisa was engrossed in her work. She had to submit her doctoral thesis soon and was probably forgetting to eat half the time.

“Sure..” said Marc. His eyes brightened up at the possibility of seeing Lisa again.

“You need not make me try so damn hard every time I wish to have your company,” called our Erica as she let herself into Lisa’s apartment. She had a key and never bothered to ring the bell.

Lisa was startled and practically jumped out of her skin in surprise when she heard Erica’s voice.

Marc got alert when he sensed the surprise and fear in Lisa’s voice and felt a compelling need to comfort her.

“Aww. I am sorry I spooked you hon.” Said Erica, hugging Lisa.

“Don’t worry about it. How was your honeymoon!! OHhh. It's so good to see you again.” Chirped Lisa at her friend.

“Let me get a beer and I’ll tell you.” Erica made her way to the kitchen.

“How’ve you been Marc? How was Europe? She has been sending me pictures. They are lovely.”

Marc stood quietly.

“I have never been there but someday I wish to go,” She tried to thrust the conversation forward when she realised she is the only one speaking.

“It was great. We had a good time.”

‘We should go together someday, ‘ he wanted to say just when Erica came out of the kitchen holding three pints of beer.
