**Vorath's Pov**

I stood outside her door longer than I should have.

The corridor was silent save for the faint creak of her chair and the rustle of her clothes as she moved inside her chamber. I'd already said everything that needed to be said. I made to leave, but my feet were rooted on the stone floor as though they had been nailed there. I listened to the silence, and it told me only one thing.

She still hadn't touched the tray of food.

I shouldn't have come here.

‘You wanted to.’

**Vorath's Pov**I stood outside her door longer than I should have. She still hadn't touched the tray of food.I shouldn't have come here.‘You wanted to.’My wolf spoke with a lack of interest. He always sounded that way whenever he caught me lying to myself. I ignored him, just as I had ignored most things he had to say lately. Though ever since the binding ceremony, pretending not to hear him had become tough for me."She needs to eat," I muttered to myself. "A sickly, starving Luna is a liability. That's all this is."‘Is it?’I walked away before my wolf could press further. There was no reason to remain outside her chamber. I had said what was necess

**Eirian's Pov**I didn't leave my chamber the next day.Nessa knocked twice that morning, carrying a tray containing warm bread and boiled eggs. Both times I faced the window with my back to the door, refusing to turn around. I heard her set the tray gently near the fireplace, heard her hesitate, heard the soft rustle of her dress as she lingered a while longer than necessary before leaving me in peace. I refused to eat the food.It wasn't because I wasn't hungry. By noon, my stomach was violently protesting. Every passing hour reminded me that I hadn't eaten since the morning of Vorath's cruel ‘test.’ But my pride and hurt were far stronger than my hunger. I refused to bend simply because my body demanded it. All my life, people had treated me the way I was treated yesterday, and I never had the words to fight back with, no voice strong enough to raise against the people who controlled every part of my existence. But I had silence. Silence had always been mine. I mastered how to u

**Eirian's Pov**"You've been cooped up in that tower like a bird in a cage," Nessa said, adjusting my shawl over my shoulders. "The King said you're allowed to walk the grounds with a guard. You should enjoy it while it lasts, before he changes his mind." I’d been stuck indoors for two full days, and Nessa hadn't stopped badgering me. She’d tried repeatedly to convince me to get some fresh air in the training yard, and I finally agreed. The walls of my chamber had actually begun to feel suffocating for me with each passing hour. The morning air was cool and fresh as Nessa led me down the numerous, confusing corridors and out into the wide stone courtyard where I had first arrived.Warriors moved about in small groups. Some trained with wooden swords while others carried supplies to and fro buildings, their deep voices mixing with the sound of the clashing weapons as a guard trailed a respectful distance behind us.I breathed in deeply, glad to be somewhere other than the four walls

**Eirian's Pov**Nessa found me a few minutes after Kaelan left. She was gasping for air from searching the hallways."My Lady!" she cried out frantically, "Where have you been? I’ve been looking everywhere for you! Please don't scare me like that again. I was already panicking, trying to figure out what I’d tell the King. 'I lost your Luna on her second day'—he’d have my head for sure!"I reached out and squeezed her shoulder to calm her down, letting her lead me back to my chambers without arguing. My thoughts were still stuck on Kaelan's warning.Never ask him about his first mate.I had barely taken a few bites of the bread and honey Nessa brought when a knock sounded on the door. I raised my head just as the door opened. Vorath stood in the entryway, practically filling the entire frame in his usual black attire. How can someone love the colour black so much? His eyes scanned the room, then landed on me.Nessa scrambled to her feet, nearly knocking over the breakfast tray in her

**Eirian's Pov**I hadn't meant to fall asleep. After the huge shadow passed my window, I froze for what felt like hours. I kept staring at the glass, waiting for it to return, until my eyes grew sore and sleep claimed me. When I woke, the fire had burned down to glowing embers, and pale morning light slipped through the curtains.I remained in that state for a while, trying to convince myself the shadow had only been a dream, a trick caused by fear and exhaustion. But I knew better. Unable to stay in bed any longer, I got dressed in the plain blue gown Nessa had left on the chair. Then I tiptoed out of my room before fully deciding where I wanted to go. I just needed some fresh air. The truth was, I wanted to see the courtyard in daylight and prove to myself that no huge and terrifying creature was hiding out there. The halls of the castle were quiet in the early morning. I rounded one corner, then another. I was sure I remembered the path Nessa had taken yesterday. Instead, I fou

**Eirian's Pov**After Nessa left, I was alone at last. I finally took a proper look around the room that was now supposed to be mine.It was bigger than any room I had ever slept in. The bed alone was large enough to fit four of me, even with my size. Its deep blue cover was embroidered with silver thread that shimmered whenever the firelight shone on it. Its tall windows were curved along one wall, covered by light blue curtains. Beneath them was a polished writing desk with nothing on it. Even the rug under my feet was thick and soft, a stark contrast to the rough, cold floorboards in my old home. It should have felt like a gift, but it felt like a room set for someone else. There were no paintings on the walls and no trinkets on the desk. There were no personal belongings anywhere to show that anyone had ever lived here. I slowly walked around the length of the chamber, brushing my fingers over the smooth desk and the cold stone walls. When I reached the washstand beside a neat
