Chapter 1

"Florian, if you become betrothed mates with her, I'll jump off this building. I would rather die than live without you."

I widened my eyes upon hearing Jessica Chaste's familiar cries. I scanned my surroundings and noticed there were werewolves in exquisite clothing all around me. It was obvious that I had returned to the day of the marking ritual.

I had once thought this was the happiest day of my life. Who knew it would become the beginning of my nightmare?

Florian Reed stood beside me, staring at Jessica, who was standing on the rooftop, his face grim. But he didn't say a word. He grabbed my hand, wanting to continue with the ritual.

In my last life, I nearly cried with excitement when he chose me so decisively. But after everything I had been through, I had become much more rational.

I realized how hard he was gripping me, exposing the anxiety he was feeling within. Maybe Jessica's devotion had already won him over.

But the pack couldn't accept an Alpha who betrayed his mate. Florian had no choice but to give up Jessica, and after she died, his guilt only grew until it drove him mad.

He started repenting for his sins day and night before the Moon Goddess' statue, treating everyone else with endless gentleness. The only thing he gave me was coldness, and because of his cruelty, our pup lost its chance to survive.

There wasn't a single werewolf who didn't marvel at how deeply he loved Jessica, and some of them even thought I was the third party who had stopped them from being together. They looked at me like I was an unforgivable criminal, their contemptuous stares cutting me deep.

But Florian was the one who fell in love with me at first sight and pursued me for three years. I simply followed my heart and chose to be with him. Why did they put all the blame on me in the end?

It wasn't fair.

Since I had a second chance at life, I wasn't going to make the same mistakes I made in my last life. I would break off my relationship with Florian for good.

I stopped in my tracks and told Florian, "That's so dangerous. Florian, go talk to her. She only listens to you."

Florian looked surprised, but I saw the smile creeping onto his face. "Olivia, do you know what you're talking about? Pushing your own betrothed mate toward another she-wolf during a ceremony like this? What do you think the werewolves will say about you?"

I had been through it, so I knew. But compared to the pain Florian had caused me, those rumors meant nothing.

I shook my head. "Florian, none of that matters. All I care about is your true feelings for me."

I raised my voice on purpose so everyone could hear me. "Even if the person standing there weren't your childhood friend, I would still stop the ceremony. You're the Alpha of the werewolf pack. It's your duty to protect every werewolf. Nothing is more important than a life!"

Everyone was in awe of my graciousness and how well I saw the bigger picture. Some werewolves even went to Florian's parents to praise them for having such good judgment and choosing the right mate for their son.

His parents, who had always thought I was beneath him, smiled at me for the first time.

Florian was so moved that he wanted to hug me, but I refused. When he looked at me in confusion, I urged him, "Go. Don't waste any more time standing here."

He immediately rushed toward the rooftop without looking back.

As I watched him disappear from sight, I couldn't help clenching my fists. In my last life, Jessica's death drove Florian mad, and he forced me to atone for it. Now, I chose to let him go and make up for what he lost.

The marking ritual came to a halt, but it didn't end. So, I stood in the same spot, waiting for Florian to return.

But two hours soon passed. Florian and Jessica were nowhere to be seen.

People started chattering around me, and almost everyone looked at me with pity. I lowered my head awkwardly and pretended I hadn't noticed anything.

At long last, Florian appeared. When our eyes met, he turned his head to the side in a panic, the lipstick mark still lingering on his cheek.

Jessica had her arm linked with him, looking all happy, as if she were the bride today, not me.

The thought had barely crossed my mind when Florian proved me right. He stood in front of me with a conflicted look, trying to muster up words but failing multiple times.

"Olivia, Jessica said that if I go through the ritual with her today, she'll never show up in front of us again. I… I agreed to it."

He quickly added, "Don't worry, it's not real. I'm only playing along. I won't really mark her."

Meanwhile, after narrowly escaping death, I had just finished the paperwork to transfer to another werewolf pack under my new identity.I quietly listened as Jax told me everything that went down, not feeling any satisfaction at all. If anything, I just felt a little sad. After all that back and forth, they still ended up dying young, just like they had in my last life.Seeing me lower my head without a word, Jax thought I was grieving and thoughtfully handed me a tissue.I didn't take it. Instead, I finally asked the question I'd been wanting to ask all along. "Jax, you were reborn too, weren't you? You weren't at the marking ritual in my last life, and I remember you'd already left for another werewolf pack by then."Jax's expression froze for a moment before he took a deep breath and nodded.I quickly asked, "How did you die?"Although I didn't know why I was given a second chance at life, death was clearly a necessary part of it.Jax stared at me in silence. There were too

Florian quickly regained his composure. He got to his feet and wiped his face. The tear stains remained, but his gaze had already turned cold.He simply refused to believe that I had died so suddenly.Florian ordered his assistant to pull up all the surveillance footage of me, then locked himself in his room and watched it nonstop. Frame after frame flashed by, but the more he watched, the more his heart ached. He saw how I would stand by the door looking dejected for a long time every time he left, only going back to my room after dark.He also saw how, just yesterday, I could only helplessly curl up on the floor while the werewolves Jessica brought beat me up.With every scene, his guilt and heartache grew. After Florian left yesterday, I stayed inside the room. Then Jessica appeared in the surveillance footage. She secretly sneaked in with a group of werewolves and tampered with the door. Before leaving, Jessica also started a fire in the kitchen. She smiled triumphantly as t

Blood dripped from the corner of my mouth, but instead of getting angry, I laughed. "Jessica, if I don't come out, I'm afraid you'll end up having to dissolve your mate bond with Florian."My words hit her like a spark, burning her eyes red."Shut up!" Jessica's chest heaved as her voice turned sharp. "Florian would never be willing to leave me."She glared at me, practically screaming, "I'm the one he loves most. This pup is the best proof."Then, as if suddenly remembering something happy, the anger on Jessica's face vanished, and she let out a soft laugh. "Florian never told you, did he? I deliberately drugged myself that day. He wouldn't touch me at first, but the moment he saw another man holding me, he went crazy."He threw me onto the bed and didn't stop until morning. He kept saying my name over and over, telling me he loved me."She looked as if she were back in that night, unconsciously wrapping her arms around herself with a sweet smile on her lips."After that night,

Florian's expression stiffened as he made his way back to Jessica's side despite himself, still pretending not to care. "Then it's settled."With that, he ran straight to her.Jessica had no idea what we'd talked about. All she knew was that Florian had chosen her again and left me behind. She flashed a victorious smile, as if she were showing off Florian's love for her.It was only after those two disappeared from sight that I dropped my pitiful act."You…" Jax hesitated, unsure how to say what was on his mind. He couldn't understand how I'd suddenly seemed like a completely different person.I explained, "I'm still me. I didn't believe any of his lies. If I left right away, he'd find me again. There's no way he'd let me go so easily. So, we have to wait for an opportunity that will drive him crazy."I went back to our place the next day. Florian seemed pleased that I'd listened to him. He pulled me close and held me like nothing between us had ever gone wrong."I thought you'd

They were both stunned.Worried that I'd get upset again, Jax quickly drove Florian out of the room.Even though Florian looked concerned, he didn't stay any longer. "I'll come see you again once you've calmed down."Florian said he would come back, but I didn't see him for the next few days.Meanwhile, Jax stayed and took great care of me. Whenever it was time to eat, he'd blow on the food to cool it down before gently feeding it to me. He treated me like a pup, which made me feel pretty embarrassed.I wanted to politely refuse, so I reached for the bowl in his hands. "Jax, thank you, but I can eat on my own."But Jax pulled the bowl away. "It's no big deal. You're the patient. You should get some rest."I could only obediently open my mouth and let him finish feeding me.Because I was still weak and couldn't walk, every time I needed to use the bathroom, I had to ask Jax to carry me there. He could carry me effortlessly, yet he walked so slowly. I was starting to wonder if I

Blood was still gushing out of me, and I could only lie helplessly on the ground, unable to move even a finger. Toby was thrown into another corner. He dragged his injured leg behind him, slowly crawling toward me.The pain was quickly draining the life out of me. Just when I felt most helpless, a pair of shoes stopped in front of me. I struggled to look up and saw my old friend, Jax Dunn. I tried to say something, but before I could, I lost consciousness. When I opened my eyes again, I was in the hospital. The excruciating pain was gone. I instinctively reached down and touched my flat stomach. The pup inside me was gone.Even though I knew this would happen, tears still welled up in my eyes.A loud commotion suddenly came from the doorway. Florian shouted, "Why won't you let me in?
