POV Samatha

It’s the last night of the pack meetings. We’re leaving for home in the morning. Kyle leaves every morning without a word. Then comes home in the wee hours, drunk again, and just passes out. The guards have been bringing me meals. I’ve been running every night with Gabriel to feel better. We decide not to run tonight. As it’s our last night here, Kyle might come home early. I’m watching a medical show on T.V. when I hear a knock at the door. How strange, who knocks at 8:30pm at night? I answer the door. There is a royal messenger. He hands me a royal package, then walks away. Oddly, he didn’t even ask who I was. I could have been anybody. What could it be? I put it on the bed and try to have a bath. However, my legs won’t move.

“ You get a surprise package from the royal messenger, and you're not even going to open it?” Gabriel asks. “Curiosity kills the cat,” I tell her. “Well then, it’s a good thing we’re a wolf, and not a cat,” “ Fine!” I say. Then open the package. Inside is a note with a wrapped box.

Hi, Samatha,

Sorry we got off on the wrong foot. You dropped your necklace when you ran away. Thought I could at least return it to you.

The typical disappointing asshole.

I had completely forgotten about him. I open the wrapped box, and inside is the emerald necklace I bought. However, it’s not the same. It is more dazzling with diamonds, gold instead of silver, and the emerald is bigger. I stand there, shocked. I quickly hid the wrapping and parcel and put the necklace in a sock in my suitcase. Kyle would be furious if he knew a stranger had given me such a beautiful necklace. I run a bath and add some vanilla oil to the bath. When I’m completely relaxed, and almost nodding off in the bath, a light bulb goes off in my head.

“You know, I thought he was an asshole. However, I don’t think the disappointing part was my words. Is there something you're not telling me, Gabriel?” I ask. “Yes,” she answers. She says nothing for a bit. “If you don’t tell me, I’ll send him a letter via messenger, and ask him, Gabriel,” I threaten. “Fine,” she says. “ He is our second chance, mate. I thought he would be better than our first mate. However, he was just as disappointing.” She says. “Oh wow, that makes so much sense. I got tingles from him, and he seemed so perfect.” I say. “Yeah, well, he’s no different from Kyle. It’s all about him. He knew we were his mate, and he didn’t care. He didn’t come by. Then he waited until the last night to say something. I just don’t care anymore, Sam,” she says. "I just want to get back home, and forget about him.” “Can you at least tell me who he is?” I ask. “Do you remember when he mentioned he had breakfast with Kyle?” She asks. “Yes,” I said. “Put your thinking hat on, Sam. Who did Kyle go to have breakfast with?” I sit and think about it for a while. After getting out of the bath, and ready for bed. I crawl into bed, and I’m just about to sleep when it hits me.

“Oh my gosh, he’s the lycan king!”
