Chapter 10

“The Necklace”

POV Samatha

    I’m deep in a dating show. When I hear a knock at the door. I answer, and it’s one of Kyle’s guards named Peter. He tells me he’s there to take me out around the village. I grab my purse, put on my shoes, grab my jacket, and head out the door. We grab fries and a burger at Ann’s burger restaurant. Then head to the center of the village. I bought a few simple dresses, some shoes and a beautiful emerald necklace. 

    After dragging Peter around to the shops, I offer to take him somewhere for a beer. He takes me to a fancy pub, and we relax at a booth, and sip our drinks. I pull out the emerald necklace and admire its beauty. Then, she decided to go to the washroom and put the necklace on. I’m so busy staring at the necklace on the way. I accidentally bump into someone and drop the necklace.

When I bent down quickly to pick it up. Then stand back up. I’m looking at the most beautiful man I have ever seen. His blue eyes sparkle, and he’s smiling at me. He has wavy dark blond, almost brown hair. He’s wearing a black suit. His very presence gives off an air of authority, like he’s royalty, or works for the king. I got up so quickly after picking up the necklace. I wobbled a little, and his hands reached out and held my sides to steady me. There we are at the moment. His hands at my sides, with his beautiful sparkling eyes. Lost in the moment. When I feel the electrify, and tingles that shoot through me. Sending shivers down my spine.

    “You must be alpha Kyle’s mistress, he says. I was wondering why you weren’t at the pack meeting,” he says.

    “How do you know who I am?” I ask.

    “Kyle described your beauty when we had breakfast together this morning. I didn’t believe him, to be honest. Then the moment I saw you I knew,” he says.

    “You knew what?” I asked curiously.

    “I knew, I knew.…”He pauses for a moment." It’s a shame you're his mistress. I would never have guessed such an incredible woman would be a two-bit whore." He says.

    I slap him instinctively, without even thinking. “Here, I thought I actually met a real man for a moment. You had me fooled! You're just a typical asshole who sees women as objects. Clearly not worthy of my time. How disappointing,” I say. Then turn around quickly, walk to my table, and grab my purse and bags. Then stomp out of the pub. Peter follows me with a confused look on his face. However, Peter never asks what happened. He just follows me back to the cottage, then leaves.

Kyle comes back after the pack meeting. This time, he brings chicken legs, chicken popcorn, gravy, fries, and Dr Pepper to drink. We stuff our faces and watch T.V.

    He randomly says, "My father wants me to have a baby with Melanie." 

    I don’t respond. I just sit there feeling numb. A part of me thinks he just wants sex, and I’m not giving it to him. The other part of me thinks this is not what he wants. If I’m being honest with myself, what guy doesn’t like sex? Why do I want to pretend he cares? Ugh. “I am a strong, confident woman,” I say to myself. It’s then that I realize I’m so caught up in the baby thing with Kyle. I haven’t heard from Gabriel. 

    “Everything good in your neck of the woods?” I ask. “ Technically, we’re in the same of the woods, Sam,” she says, annoyed. “What’s going on with you?” I ask. “Nothing is going on, Sam. I’m just listening to you think you're okay with Kyle sleeping with Melanie,” she says. “I’m not okay with it. There’s just nothing I can really do about it.” “You could kill her,” she says. “Tempting, but I don’t think I have the heart to kill someone that was once like a sister to me, or I would have done it already.”

    “What are you thinking about?” Kyle asks. When I’m deep in thought. 

    “I’m thinking about the elephant in the room,” I tell him.

    “My father called me after the meeting. I don’t want to hide anything from either of you,” he says.

    “I’m your mate, Kyle. I’m never going to be okay with it. Your father had a chosen mate and a mistress. Sleeping with someone else after bonding with your fated mate literally brings your mate physical pain,” I tell him.

    

    “I love you both equally, Sam. I can’t let either of you go. Melanie and I have been dating since I was 14. I love you both in different ways. I’m sorry if it brings you pain. It is just the way it has to be,” he says. 

    “You could reject me and find a mistress. That is not your mate,” I tell him.

    He gets angry, and grabs his plate of food, and tosses it at me. “You are mine, Sam. You belong to me! If you ever bring up anything about rejection again, I’ll beat you senseless! Do you understand?” he yells.

    I sit there covered in food, realizing my place. This is my life now. “Yes, I understand,” I tell him. I can’t really hide the disappointment on my face. I try not to cry.

    He grabs the rest of the food and throws it at the T.V. Then he leaves out the front door, slamming it behind him. I cleaned up the mess he made. Have a quick shower, change, and then go to bed. I can’t even think. I feel so numb. 

    Gabriel whispers to me, "Would you like to go for a quick run? It will take your mind off things. With all the visiting packs. No one will notice," she says. “Okay,” I respond. I strip off my clothes and put on a robe. Then peek outside; no one is there. There is a forest right behind the cabins. I strip the robe off quickly and let Gabriel take over. We run for hours, chasing after prey, bathing in a nearby lake, and admiring the moonlight.

    

    Only minutes after we get home, have a shower, then go to bed. Does Kyle show up drunk as a skunk and pass out beside me? I look at the clock. It’s 2am.
