Shouted Simon, looking down at the young girl that served their dishes.
Mary trembled at the authoritative comments Simon made, she had made a silly mistake by mixing up his order and served him with the wrong dish, Mary clenched her teeth and while keeping her gaze on the ground, her voice was enveloped in fear:
“I’m so sorry Sir, I should have been more careful, hold on, let me quickly…”
Her apology was abruptly interrupted by a warm feel of a substance thrown from behind her, the plate of Pasta and ravioli was emptied on her body staining her white uniform.
At that point, Mary could not keep it together, and being embarrassed that way made her start crying silently while trying to clean up.
“That serves you right, you little brat, nobody messes with my order”
Simon grinned, while all his friends began laughing uncontrollably.
He was used to being the one in charge and making everyone around him feel inferior, but what would happen next, he didn't expect it.
Suddenly a girl with the same restaurant uniform appeared angrily in the scene and furiously pointed her finger towards Simon:
“What’s wrong with you? Who do you think you are”
It was Gabriela, Mary’s colleague, she couldn't allow Mary to experience such an unfair situation, so she had to step in.
The private restaurant suite went silent, Simon and his friends looked at Gabriela intently and annoyed, Simon looked at her from head to toe and mocked her:
“Who do I think I am?”
He repeated what Gabriela had said in a sarcastic tone.
“Does the name Simon Ramsey not ring a bell?”
Simon asked snapping his fingers multiple times and looking towards his friends amused by Gabriela’s question.
“And who do you think you are to ask the questions here?”
Simon said to her enraged by her level of disrespect.
“Don’t get on my bad side tonight, watch your mouth or else…”
Before he could finish what he was saying, Gabriela flung the milkshake she held on a train meant for one of Simon’s friends.
The milk drink splattered all over Simon’s expensive suit,
This was a man who had his clothes tailored and fitted by the best brands in Europe, and just like that Gabriela dared to ruin what he was wearing leaving everyone in disbelief, no one dared to laugh or say anything.
“I don’t care who you are jerk, you don't have the right to act that way and I won't stand here while you humiliate my colleague”
Gabriela stood strong and used her arm to hide Mary behind her in a way to defend her.
“How does it feel to get a taste of your own medicine?”
Gabriela’s voice was confident, unshaken, and deprived of fear.
Simon was stunned, he couldn't believe what just happened, his anger was like a ticking bomb about to explode before Simon could say anything, the manager of the restaurant came out of the office after being called out by one of the employees who witnessed the whole scene.
“Ohh Mr Ramsey, I'm so sorry, please take this…”
The manager stammered while handing over some napkins and also assisting in cleaning some of the milkshake residues on Simon’s suit.
“It won't happen again Sir, I apologize on behalf of my staff “
The manager said bowing his head, feeling disgraced and ashamed for what had happened.
Simon’s gaze rested on Gabriela’s and without breaking contact, he looked down on her and Mary.
“You’ll pay for this brat”
After saying that, he angrily exited the premises of the restaurant followed by his friends.
The manager turned to Gabriela
“You are Fired, give me your tag now…”
“But Sir, I was just defending Mary over here, you can check the CCTV Cameras, that man was so rude”
Gabriela protested the injustice.
“But nothing Gabriela! Mr Ramsey is our biggest shareholder, he owns this place, you don't realize what you've done to our image”
The manager shook his head disappointed.
“Don’t let me repeat myself, give me your tag”
With a bit of hesitation, Gabriela handed over her tag and hugged Mary trying to look strong and holding back the tears, and left the restaurant.
“That's it”
She thought, losing a job was a great setback for her.
A great part of her earnings went to supporting her family and now that her mainstream was gone, she was confused about what to do.
Due to certain circumstances, Gabriela had to step in as the “man” of the house and make money to earn a living for herself, her mum, and her little brother, that job meant the world to her but now it was gone.
On her walk home, she noticed a lively bar, illuminated by hanging lights, giving a serene ambience. What slowed her pace was a man who strummed a guitar and a young girl who sang along to the melody.
That brought back distant memories of when her dad was still with them. He loved to play the guitar and sit Gabriela on his lap and play all her favorite songs.
It’s been close to ten years since her father’s death, the nightmare began when Mr Ramirez promised to get Gabriela’s favorite cookies on his way home and while returning to his car to drive off, he encountered a group of men that assaulted him and when he tried to fight back, he was shot on the head.
At least that was what the police had told them concerning how her dad died, it was the most painful experience of her life.
“If not for those stupid cookies, papa would have still been with us”
Gabriela thought.
After a long walk that could have been avoided by taking a taxi, Gabriela reached her house.
As soon as she was about to unlock the door, her phone buzzed and a text message came up.
Her heart stopped for a moment while reading the message, fear gripped her, and with all she had, she ran to St. Patrick Children’s Hospital.
Something was wrong, very wrong.
The morning sun rays entered the penthouse, reflecting on the marble base of the living room. Gabriela stood barefoot on the kitchen floor, still in her pajamas. The coffee machine slowly poured hot coffee into the mug, and Gabriela looked at it without moving an inch. The events of the day before had left her sad and with a whirlwind of thoughts. She couldn’t sleep as anytime she tried closing her eyes, the image of Diego on that cold hospital bed haunted her.The machine stopped pouring, and she gently grabbed the mug and, without thinking, drank it bitter and black without adding her usual sweetener.Gabriela walked slowly across the hallway and stopped by Simon’s study, his laptop was gone and he was gone as well. She checked her phone and noticed it was pretty early to be out there for someone who didn’t sleep much at night.“I wonder when he left the room,” Gabriela said a bit embarrassed, remembering how she held his hand and kept him with her until falling asleep.Just then,
The hospital hallways were bright and cold, Gabriela stood at the door of Diego’s room shaking, and scared while Simon stood behind her, silent but present.Inside the room, Diego looked small under the white sheets, he wore an oxygen mask and tubes were attached to his wrist while a monitor blinked beside the bed.Gabriela entered slowly, with her heart in her throat, and tears threatening to fall. Diego looked so fragile. Simon followed behind her. After a couple of minutes which looked like eternity, Gabriela caressed her brother’s face.“I’m here Didi”Diego’s eyes slowly opened as if he was awakened by his sister’s voice, he blinked once and then again, and he gave her a weak smile.“Gabriela…” he whispered gently.Gabriela sat beside him, holding his hand tightly.“You scared me and mum” she murmured.“I didn't mean to, I just got dizzy” he responded weakly.Simon stood at the doorway, watching them quietly. He observed how Gabriela’s hands were trembling and how her usual stren
Gabriela stood in front of the vanity mirror, smoothing her hands on the long silk dress that hugged her and showed all her beautiful curves. The dress was a beautiful sky blue with gold details adorning the sleeves and collar, giving Gabriela an expensive and luxurious touch. Her long dark hair fell perfectly over her shoulders, curled to perfection, smelling like fresh daisies in spring.Simon stood behind her, leaned on the door, and watched her. His tuxedo was crisp, elegant, and sharp.“You’re staring” Gabriela muttered without turning, gently applying perfume oil on her neck.“I know” Simon responded with his eyes still fixed on her as if he was hypnotized.Gabriela faced him and giggled.“You look pretty good, Mr Ramsey” she teased him, in response Simon blushed slightly and moved away from the doorway.“My wife is beautiful, I should play the part of a handsome husband well, don't you think?”Simon said softly as he went back to watching Gabriela as she wore her heels.“Your w
The rain started without warning, it poured cats and dogs, it was heavy and loud with thunder strikes that lit up the sky.Gabriela stood quietly in front of the Penthouse window watching the rain droplets race each other on the glass, her mind wandered upon the conversation she had with Jimmy the other day.Everything was still when suddenly she heard a thud from behind her, She turned and found Simon standing in the kitchen and a broken glass on the floor.“Need help?” she asked with a grin on her face.“Too late to ask, don't you think?”Simon muttered as he placed his hands on his hair.“I guess that's why you have maids all over the house, to avoid all these little accidents”Gabriela chuckled.Silence fell upon that moment and then he said softly.“It was an ugly glass anyway”Simon bent down to pick up the pieces.“Ouch”Simon screamed softly as a piece cut his finger. Gabriela ran to where he stood with his bleeding finger.“You should have been more careful” She said, holdi
The two friends began browsing the boutique, looking at different tops and dresses. They were having fun but Gabriela couldn't shake off the suspicion she was feeling on the inside.“Okay, be honest, this or that?”Jennie asked, holding two dresses against her chest. “The first one, yellow looks good on you”“Yellow?”Jennie repeated surprised as the two dresses she held were pink and white, it was clear Gabriela was distracted. She couldn't help it, her eyes kept watching the SUV that was parked at the curb and Jimmy who was seated silent in the car.“Yo, Earth to Gabby, are you colour blind now?”Jennie waved her hands on her face.“Sorry Jennie, I don't feel comfortable with Jimmy around”She said, still watching the SUV parked outside.Jennie followed her gaze.“You're sure, you're not just being paranoid?”Gabriela shook her head and narrowed her eyes.“No, there is something weird about that driver guy, I can feel it”Jennie set the two dresses down and walked closer to where G
Gabriela stood in the middle of her room, replying quickly to Jennie’s text message who had invited her shopping. She smiled and thought a little retail therapy wouldn't kill her and maybe it would have helped her forget the drama that she now had to call life.Gabriela wore an oversized tee and denim shorts with slides. She grabbed her tote bag and walked towards the door.“Where do you think you are going, looking like that?”Simon said firmly, stepping out of the study.Gabriela looked down on herself and slowly turned back to him, making eye contact.“To see Jennie, I didn't know I had to wear something corporate to see my best friend”Simon walked close and grabbed her hand, not violently but out of instinct.“You are going out without your ring?”“I didn't think it mattered,” Gabriela murmured beneath her voice.“Yes it does, you are my wife”Simon shot back, trying to control his emotions.Gabriela folded her arms “You're contracted wife, there's a difference and I'm just seein
