The long-lost reaction... came as expected. The words he wanted to say got stuck in his throat and wouldn’t come out.

“Huh? No phone in this pocket?”

Her clear, sweet voice sounded so charming that it quickly pulled him out of his desire. His first instinct was to grab the phone from the other pocket and hand it to her. His movements were so fast it was like a whirlwind, afraid she’d reach in herself if he was too slow.

“Good boy, should’ve done this earlier!”

Esther happily patted his cheek, grabbed his hand, unlocked the phone, and found the chat window. “What’s the nickname for the baby? Zoe or baby daughter?”

“Auntie?!”

Esther: “...”

So that was it!

She thought he had labeled his daughter as “auntie.”

Esther woke up already in her own bed at home. Zoe’s fluffy little head was resting against her chest, her small hands tugging at the fabric of her shirt. Her tiny mouth was slightly pursed straight, so cute it made her heart melt and her eyes go a little blurry—until the man’s deep, pleasant voice sounded.“Awake?”Evander was dressed casually in a T-shirt and jeans. Compared to his usual formal, serious attire, he looked unexpectedly approachable.Esther’s gaze shifted from the little girl’s face to him, still a bit dazed. “Breakfast is ready. You want to eat upstairs or downstairs?”Esther: “...”She seriously suspected this guy had driven early this morning, and there was evidence—“I’m not eating!”Without hesitation, Esther replied. Then it hit her where she was. Without thinking, she blurted out,“Evander, what did you feed me on your a

Before he could finish, Esther interrupted. She wasn’t really sleepy anyway, and figured hearing a childish fairy tale might just put her to sleep. But what happened next surprised her—“Once upon a time, there was a boy who was very handsome. Lots of girls liked him — enough to circle the entire city — but he didn’t like a single one. He thought, girls cry too much and are annoying. He decided he would never be with a girl his whole life. Being alone forever, peacefully — what’s wrong with that?”“Being alone forever, what’s wrong with that?”Esther, who had originally planned to be lulled to sleep by the story, suddenly snapped back, irritated, “Ask the two lumps of flesh under you what’s wrong with that! Men, before they grow up, only know how to brag, but once they grow up, their lower halves slap them in the face!”That sentence reminded her of something a boy o

Esther’s pupils suddenly dilated, her eyes instantly reddened. For the first time, she thought this man before her was so handsome — like the prince on a white horse she had dreamed of a thousand times.Yes, he was right — miracles happen all the time. Esther felt her blood boiling. The heavy burden weighing on her heart finally found resonance in this moment.“You’re right. Later, a miracle did happen. The day after that man and his parents-in-law signed the papers to give up, the government issued a policy: all medical expenses for such infectious diseases would be fully reimbursed by the state, and ordinary people wouldn’t have to pay!”“Those who kept holding on — and their families — were given new life. That man who signed to give up became a widower. The day he heard the news, he fainted from crying three times. But I didn’t pity him, even though he was helpless.”Everything, e

When those words came out of Evander’s mouth, Esther felt they were somewhat unreal.A decisive and ruthless man playing at romance always seemed a bit ridiculous to her. Her gaze remained fixed on the vast sky filled with dazzling stars, but somehow they no longer seemed so sparkling and beautiful.Instead, the crescent moon hanging high above looked especially radiant.moon.Esther smiled faintly, and the night seemed to deepen and thicken.“Smooth talk!”Evander thought she was upset, afraid she would lump him together with those men who cling to her heels and chase after her. The hand that had originally reached to wrap around her shoulder quietly withdrew, as if only by doing so could he prove he was different from those lustful men.Esther: “... After all that trouble just to bring me here, that’s all you wanted to say?”As grown adults, this reaction was a little unexpected. It had nothing to do with

The man suddenly leaned down and bit the back of her hand on his throat. He shrugged it off and joked,“You say it like I’m not a bad person. Or do you think my two kids were born by surrogate surgery?”“Who isn’t a bad person? Rotten husbands and rotten wives—that’s what lasts forever…”“I won’t marry!”Trapped by the Davenier family for over twenty years, bound tightly in her youth, always forced to comply or branded a heartless ungrateful traitor, morally blackmailed for half a lifetime—she had finally escaped that cage and didn’t want to step into another. After all, wealthy families are as deep as the sea. However—“It’s not a big deal, just don’t want to marry. Fine, if you don’t marry, then I won’t marry either!”The hand on her head pressed down harder. Under the cool night breeze, the man&rsquo
