Abby's POV

“Alpha Hayden Roche of Duskfire’s pack,” she declared, loud and clear, “I’m carrying your child.”

Cameras clicked. Gasps rippled through the crowd. I froze where I was.

I stared at Hayden but he didn’t flinch. His expression remained stone-cold. My heart twisted or perhaps it leaped in joy.

Could this be it? My miracle? My way out?

I looked at my parents. Mother’s eyes flicked in confusion. Father’s jaw tightened. Panic shimmered beneath their composed faces.

I laughed inside.

They might see disgrace and disappointment.

But all I saw was freedom.

Hayden’s men, Beta Alex and a few high-ranking pack members had quickly surrounded the woman. They didn’t shove her, neither did they bark orders. They spoke to her with quiet urgency before escorting her out.

Who was she for them to respect her that much?

There was commotion in the hall. Elder Lucius stood perplexed.

Still, Hayden’s men without waiting for their alpha's order, moved with swift precision, calming the crowd like seasoned warriors. Only Alphas with presence and power earned such loyalty.

Beta Alex returned. He leaned toward Hayden, and whispered something.

Hayden straightened and faced the crowd.

“This,” his voice boomed, “is how far some will go to cling to power they were never destined for.”

Murmurs silenced.

“There will be a paternity test. If it’s a lie, she’ll face consequences. Until then, the wedding continues.”

I stopped breathing.

The wedding continues?

I stared at him, numb. He didn’t even glance my way.

I turned to my parents.

Life returning to their faces like a burden had just been lifted. They nodded along, like everything was going according to plan.

Freya gave me a single nod as well. cold, final.

Is this really my family?

I swallowed hard, forcing back tears. My father’s warning from the night before echoed in my mind. No tears. No weakness.

The hall commotion has been realised as if nothing happened.

And just like that, the noise and commotion had stopped. The crowd were settled. As if nothing had happened.

Nothing more to think of, my fate is already sealed.

Elder Lucius cleared his throat and resumed. Vows were exchanged.

And I became someone’s wife.

As the last guests departed, I lingered in the hall, drained, heartbroken and even longing to escape my bridal gown for a cold shower as my skin is already burning from all the drama.

I let out a shaky hot breath. “There's no turning back now.” I Muttered to myself.

“Abby, let’s go.” Hayden said, breaking my thoughts. “Alex is waiting outside to drive us.”

“Alright,” I said quietly.

He didn’t let it slide. “Alright, Alpha,” he corrected, his tone cool, firm.

My chest tightened. I lowered my gaze. “Alright, Alpha,” I echoed, barely audible.

Minutes after. We arrived at Hayden’s mansion, a grand estate that felt intimidating just like him. It was breathtaking. So breathtaking, I didn’t even realize I said it out loud. “This place is… massive.”

“It’s a reflection of who I am,” Hayden said with a hint of pride. His face remained straight. “I’m glad it makes an impression.”

The maids appeared, handling my luggage as if they’d rehearsed it a hundred times. Hayden led me inside and took me to his private chamber. Now our private chamber, if I’m not getting ahead of myself.

The room was twice the size of my father’s master bedroom.

“Welcome home,” Hayden said. “I had my PA stock the wardrobe with everything to make you comfortable.”

“Oh, thanks.” I said, but his warning glare made me quickly correct myself. “T-thanks, Alpha,” I stammered, heading toward the impressive wardrobe. “Wow, these are beautiful,” I said, admiring the elegant dresses.

“I’m heading to my room,” Hayden said, catching me off guard.

I spun around to face him. “Your room?” I asked.

He nodded. “This is your room,” he replied, looking away.

My heart sank. I swallowed the lump in my throat. He must hate me that much. He wouldn’t even look me in the eye.

I nodded in agreement. Realization dawned. We’re staying in separate rooms.

Without hesitation, he left the room.

Tears spilled down my face. This is what father wants for me right? I gathered the strength remaining in me and stepped into the bathroom.

After a quick shower, I emerged in a simple nightgown. I stepped back into the room and found Hayden standing there.

His intense gaze made my heart race. “What is he doing here?

“This looks beautiful on you,” he said, stepping closer as our eyes locked.

“Ah, yes,” I replied, my breath catching in my throat.

Hayden’s proximity made my pulse quicken. His eyes bore into mine, and I almost leaned in when he suddenly pulled back. “I left my car key,” he muttered, walking past me. “I need something from the car.”

My pulse faltered. “Oh… I see,” I said, trying to mask my disappointment.

He paused at the door. His eyes softened. Then hardened again. “Rest well,” he said, and disappeared.

Fresh tears started gushing out again. I wish I had the courage to run away from this marriage when I had the chance. This is going to be harder than I thought.

Then the scene of the woman entering the wedding hall flashed in my mind. Her words still ringing loud in my ears. “I’m carrying your child.”

What’s my fate now? What if the paternity test comes out positive? I scoffed. My throat was dry now. I walked to the mini-freezer in the room. It was filled with assorted drinks and fruit juices, but no water.

“I need only water now,” I murmured. It was night already, so I stepped out, hoping to find my way to the kitchen.

I almost got lost in the house before a maid showed me the way. Out of curiosity, I asked the maid where Hayden’s room was, and she told me.

To satisfy my curiosity, I headed there. Not far from mine. The door was bigger, more sophisticated. I stood outside his door.

I turned to leave when my ear caught a female voice inside. “Want me to unbutton your shirt?”

It wasn’t a maid.

Hayden’s POV I turned and found the little boy from yesterday boldly staring at me. There were no other customers inside, only the uniformed staff arranging tables for the morning rush. I wanted to act petty and scare the little boy off, but instead I heard myself explaining.“Hey, little guy! I'm no bad man!”“You are!” he declared, jutting his chin forward stubbornly.I sighed.Alex chuckled behind me. “This boy reminds me of you when we were small. Fierce and unapologetically bold.”“They even look alike,” Brian added, snickering.I shot them both a sharp look and turned back to the boy. “Where’s mama?”“Good morning, sir. Welcome,” a staff member approached with a polite smile. “Here are the menus. We’re still setting up, but we can take your order.”“Is…uhmm…Ruby on duty?” Alex asked shamelessly, smiling like a teenager freshly hit by Cupid. The staff didn’t get the chance to answer before a tall brunette stepped out of an office, carrying a little girl who giggled loudly in he

  • Forsaken by the Moongoddess    A Little Desperate

Hayden’s POV I couldn’t ignore the heavy weight pressing down on my chest as the city lights and buildings blurred past while Brian drove us to the hotel. My mind kept returning to that woman at the restaurant. I pulled Abby’s necklace from my pocket and held it tightly. If she was indeed the one, she had every right to keep me at a distance. But I needed to apologize for everything first, even if I didn’t deserve her forgiveness.Alex’s laughter beside me made me turn. His head rested against the back of the seat, eyes closed, arms folded across his chest, smiling like he was lost in some fairytale world, completely unaware anyone was watching.Brian’s snorted laugh drew my attention through the rearview mirror. He couldn’t hold it in.“I didn’t know finding one’s mate could feel this good. I need to up my game,” he said, chuckling between words.I let my lips curve slightly as I glanced back at Alex, still oblivious to the fact that we were watching him. Then the weight on my chest

  • Forsaken by the Moongoddess    Almost Recognized

Abby's POV I rushed into my office. The door clicked shut behind me, and I finally released the breath I hadn’t realized I’d been holding. One hand pressed to my chest, as if I could steady the ache pulsing there.“Mommy, you fine?” Asher clutched his ball, wide eyes full of worry.“I’m fine. Mommy’s fine, my love.” I forced a smile. “Don’t go out without my permission again, okay?”He nodded immediately.“Good boy.” I ruffled his hair, and he ran off to join Amy, who was already rearranging the toys she’d just scattered.I turned sharply to Jane. “Don’t let my kids go out without my permission. Do you hear me?”“Yes, ma,” she said, lowering her head.I sent her out to join the staff, then sank into my chair, trying to catch my breath, trying to stop the tremor running through me. I didn’t know seeing Hayden again, after more than three years, could shake me this badly. He almost recognized me. Thank the Goddess I didn't slipThe door opened and my heart lurched painfully, terrified

  • Forsaken by the Moongoddess    The Familiar Voice

Hayden’s POV I slid into the car beside Alex while Brian drove. Brian was the music type, unlike Alex and me. He tapped the screen, scrolling through genres until an old-school song played—My Girl by The Temptations. The only song I know the lyrics to by heart. I could sing it even if someone shook me awake in the middle of the night.I felt Alex’s eyes drilling holes into the side of my head, but I kept my attention fixed on my phone. He didn’t disappoint. “Childhood nostalgia, huh?” he muttered with that smug look he loved.I ignored him, smiling at nothing on my screen, pretending I wasn’t listening to either him or the song.He clicked his tongue and looked away.Good.I knew what he was driving at. That song used to be Amara’s song, back when I was a clueless teenager who thought strumming a guitar and singing it was a subtle love confession. But now, listening to it only brought one person to mind.Abby. The hundredth time I’d thought of her today. Maybe because I’d been keepin

Abby's POV“I think your scent is well-hidden now. Even if he comes close, he won’t perceive you,” Ruby said, sniffing me with a nod of approval.“Thank you, Ruby.”She shrugged. “What can I do with your stubbornness?”I rolled my eyes but smiled. Ruby never stayed mad for long, she always gave in eventually.Ever since Derek told me Hayden would be coming here, I’d been trying to figure out what to do. Avoiding my own restaurant because of him was out of the question. So I decided to hide both my scent and my appearance. Derek and Ruby hated the idea at first, but after going back and forth, they finally gave in when they realized I wasn’t backing down.Ruby did what she does best—spell. She concealed my scent and the twins’. As for my appearance, I braided my long auburn hair and pinned it up to look like a short bob. With a scarf and a nose mask, I would be unrecognizable at the restaurant.“You ready for training, Abby?” Derek asked, stepping out in his training gear. He looked ex

  • Forsaken by the Moongoddess    Not Even Close

Hayden's POV The war between the European wolves and the Australian wolves that I thought could be handled quickly had dragged on for over two years. Of course, we weren’t losing, but the prolonged conflict had caused serious divisions in werewolf kingdoms. The council finally decided to unify the kingdoms under one body. A single werewolf council with representatives from every continent. Liam’s supporters were exposed, their wolves stripped away, and they were banished to the underworld to face the goddess’s judgment. The humans among them were handed over to their authorities, facing lifetime imprisonment and confiscation of their properties. It was a decisive victory, but also a fragile peace. The council had called a national conference to formalize the unity, elect representatives for the newly formed global council, and ensure that the werewolf kingdoms stayed aligned. The conference started tomorrow in Australia. I had to leave tonight.“Here.” Valentina handed me a paper co
