The End of Running

Lyric’s POV

I was 11 years old when my parents died and I was forced to raise my twin siblings alone. My family comes from a line of witches. Back when my parents were teens our coven was attacked by rouge wolves and the my parents happened to get away. They had been best friends since birth and when they were forced to run away after the attack they ended up falling in love and having us. We have spent our whole life running and hiding. Right now we live in a beach house on the outskirts of Miami, Florida, this has been our home for a year now. We spend most of our days at the beach or in a flower field we created and put a blood protection spell around so nobody could see the field or walk through the shield except us. Thankfully being witches we can blend in with the humans easily but sometimes we have had to move because mom and dad would sense wolves in our area. I always thought I would have my parents forever and it was seriously looking that way until that fatal day in April, 4 days before the twins birthday.

“Mama , Daddy Look at me watch this I’ve been practicing” I yelled to my parents who were playing with my 2 year old twin siblings Nadia & Luca.

“Let’s see what you’ve been working on sweetheart” my dad says as the pause what they are doing to watch me.

I relax, close my eyes and start swirling my hand in a small circle while thinking of a small tornado. The air starts to slowly pick up around me and I’m being lifted off the ground in the middle of the tornado. When I finally open my eyes I look down and see my parents smiling and cheering me on.

“Go Lyric gooo!!” “You’re doing amazing babygirl” I hear them yelling while my younger siblings are watching my in awe while clapping and laughing

I slowly lower myself to the ground and run to my family “did you see me , did you? Wasn’t that so cool I’m getting so much better” I rush out in pure excitement.

“You did amazing babygirl” my mom says and kisses my forehead “that was amazing sweetheart” my dad says right after “you’re much stronger then me and your mother were at that age” he says which makes me smile even bigger

“I’m stronger then you daddy” I tease “oh you wanna bet?” He says and starts chasing me around the field we always play in. I run as fast as I could but of course he caught me and started tickling me “who’s stronger now huh?” He asks in between laughs. “Me daddy I’m stronger” I giggle . “Uh huh I’ll let you have it this time princess” he says while walking us back towards mama and the twins.

“Honey it’s time to head home” mom says to dad “alright let’s pack up and head out” he responds.

We get everything ready to go. Daddy’s caring the blankets and bags with the leftover food and toys , mama has Luca on her back and I have Nadia on mine. We stop at the barrier of the field and let daddy walk through it first to check out our surroundings and make sure it’s safe. This was our usual routine except this time we didn’t expect a ambush to be waiting on the other side. As soon as daddy stepped thru the shield our life came crumbling down. We see a arrow dipped in silver shot straight into his heart causing him to stumble back thru the shield to us. Mama dropped Luca next to me and ran to daddy and immediately started to try and heal him but it wasn’t working.

“Xander noo baby please hang on you can’t leave us baby please” mama cried. The twins were crying and screaming “dada, mama” and I just stood there staring. It was like my heart got ripped out of my chest. I knew what silver did to our kind. Mama and Daddy made sure I knew to keep myself safe. I knew in that moment I was about to lose my dad.

“Anastasia My love, keep our babies safe. I love you so much” Daddy says before he looks at me . “Sweetheart come here” I take the twins hands and we walk to our dad. “My beautiful babies, I love y’all so much. I’m so sorry I’m leaving you , remember I will always be with you here” he says and points to each of our hearts. “Sweetheart protect your mom and siblings, you are so strong and brave, they will need you” he says before he looks at mama again. He takes one more deep breath as his eyes start to flutter shut “I love you so-” he manages to get out before he stops breathing.

My knees hit the ground next to him body as the tears start to fall. I notice mama standing up next to me after taking off dads wedding ring and locket and the look on her face has me terrified. I’ve never seen mama so look so mad and broken at the same time. I grab the twins and just hug them to me as mama takes a deep breath and turns to look at us.

“ Lyric babygirl” she says making me look at her “ you need to remember everything we’ve taught you. I’m so sorry to put this all on you but I must avenge your father and I can’t let these people live, nobody knows you three exist and it needs to stay that way” she starts pulling off her ring and locket as well before she puts both rings on one chain and put them both around my neck. “I want you to open a portal right now to the safe house, take your siblings once I finish here I will come to y’all” she says

“Mama no please just come with us” I start begging which only causes tears to fall from her eyes. “Sweetheart I have to do this to keep y’all safe, now create the portal and go” she says sternly one more look at her face tells me that I can’t change her mind. I jump up and hug her “ I love you so much mama, with all my heart” I say. She hugs me back before sweeping up the twins and hugging them as well “I love all of you so much forever” she says.

My mom puts Luca on my back and I’m holding Nadia on my hip. Once flick of my wrist and the silvery shades of the portal appear. I take one more look at my dads body.

“Mama?” I say quietly.

“Yes babygirl” she responds softening her look just slightly.

“Can I take daddy’s body to bury… we can’t leave him hear” I say causing my mom to let out a choked sob. “Yes babygirl let me do that for you.” She looks at daddy and lifts her and and with a small wave daddy’s body appears on the other side of the portal. “Thank you mama” I say before starting to walk through the portal.

“Take care of them okay babygirl I love you” she says before the portal shuts.
