Where did you get that?” My face hardened, and I stood up straighter. Suspicion crept its way up my spine as I looked down at the golden rose she held between her fingertips.

“Your mom and I were... close friends when we were younger. You could even say best friends.” She delivered a genuine smile my way before releasing the pendant back onto her skin. If she were such good friends with my mother, why had I never met her? Some things weren't adding up and my anxiety throughout my body told me not to trust her.
