One week later

“Get your ass down here Ash” My dad yells at me

“I’m coming, let me put on my shoes, just a minute please” I tell him putting on my sneakers and tying my lace tightly, we don’t want it to come undone now, do we?

“Make sure you tie your lace tightly if you are wearing one of your sneakers, you know how clumsy you can be most times” He tells me, reminding me of one of my weaknesses, if not the only one.

“and get your ass down here now” he adds.

“I know, thanks for reminding me of how clumsy I can be” I tell him coming out of my room to the kitchen, or the sitting room, I don’t know, they are both connected.

“And don’t forget to keep your headphones in your bag at school, I don’t want you to be reported on your first day at your new school” he tells me, seeing me picking up my headphones on the bean bag where I left it at yesterday.

“I know, I will try my best” I tell him, reassuring him.

“And--”

“And make sure you keep your head low and don’t cause trouble, I know dad, you’ve been telling me since the weekend” I tell him, getting exasperated.

“and I mean it, ANY type of trouble” he said looking at me pointedly while emphasizing the any type in his statement.

He can be a pain in the ass, and he knows it also, but he does it unconsciously sometimes, because he does it even when he doesn’t mean to.

“Don’t forget to take your breakfast, it’s on the kitchen table” he tells me, heading outside, “and be fast about it”.

“You confuse me on whose first day it is, is it yours or mine?” I mutter, asking silently, not ready to start another round of exchange of words today.

“What did you say?” he asks me, when he sees me locking the front door

“Nothing, let’s go” I tell him, entering the car with my packed breakfast, which I know for sure is a sandwich.

“Did you pack all the necessary books you need” he asks me, starting the car, driving away from our garage

“Yes, and I will make sure I go to the Principal’s office to get my schedule or whoever I need to go see to get it” I tell him, knowing the next question he was going to ask.

“Good, don’t forget to put your phone on silent mode when in class, I don’t wan’t to be called on your first day” he tells me, again reminding me of the dos and don’ts I need to know, which he already did throughout the weekend.

“Uhn hn” I mutter.

With my response, he knows I do not want to continue the conversation and if he does, that will be the only type of response he will get from me.

Within 10 minutes we got to my new school, which means I am still early. Looking at the school, it is not that big, not like my old school at least, with a 3 story building, while my old school is a 4 story.

A lot of students are rushing inside the school even though there is still time. I look at the big sign at the front of the school “RUSHMOORE HIGH SCHOOL”

“hurry, can’t you see your peers are going in” my dad yells at me, seeing me still standing, looking at the sign.

“There is still fucking time, you don’t have to rush me, and again, I don’t even know why they are in a fucking hurry” I tell him, getting irritated again with the way he makes me feel, like an unserious person.

“have I ever told you that for a 15 year old, you sure do swear a lot, like a sailor” he tells me, looking at me warningly, even though he knows I won’t change.

“Uhmm, maybe, I don’t know” I tell him, pretending to think about it at first.

“Oh God, just go inside, you don’t want to be late on your first day, and please go to where you need to go for your locker and timetable” he tells me, starting his car, preparing to go before giving me a 20 dollar bill for upkeep.

“Thanks, bye” I tell him, bidding him goodbye.

I know a lot of people become so shy or awkward when seen with their parents because of them not wanting to be seen with their parents, but as for me, I don’t fucking care, having my dad without my mum, makes me value the only person I have the most.

“Don’t cause any trouble, be careful, don’t act rashly or irrationally, no love and romance which is the most important thing” I mutter, reminding myself things I should do or should not. Knowing myself, even with this mantra it will still not help in keeping me from flaring up before a bully, which is the least of my problems.

Entering the school glass double doors, the interior is painted with blue on one side of the hallway and cream, or is it off white, I don’t know colours and I don’t bother myself about it. That’s why I mostly wear black, which makes people refer to me as emo or soulless at my old school, or white and black, something that will not make disturb myself on whether the colour matches.

The colour makes the hall look cool and bright? I don’t know and I don’t care.

“Hey” I call out to a random girl on the hallway, tapping her shoulders because she was opening her locker, and she seems like the only sane person in the hallway

“hey, hello, how can I help you?” she asks me, removing her earphones to hear me.

“Please I’m new here, but do you know where I will go to get my class schedule and locker key” I ask her, studying her face, noticing her dressing style and seeing that she is not really bad in dressing, but girly, a pink and white clothe. And she is also beautiful.

“oh, newbie, both the Principal’s and School Admin’s office is at the 4th floor” she tells me, pointing upwards to make her point.

“oh, thanks,” I tell her, adjusting my bag on my shoulders.

  • Frenemies: Ashley and Oliver   CHAPTER 25

Ashley's POV"Are you seriously holding my hand?" I ask Oliver calmly. He immediately lets go like a hot potato and apologizes. "Why do you hate me?" he asks, curious."Why do you want to behave like a typical high school bully?" I retort."You see, kiddo, there's more to things than behaving like a cringe-y kid, like a cringe-y movie you want to sleep through," he says, trying to be profound."And you talk like an old lady," he scoffs."And you wonder why I don't want to have anything to do with you," I answer dully. Conversing with someone who makes my IQ duller is both dampening and stressful.Done with the conversation, I pull Katya along with me, who was outside the room listening in."You just like messing with fire," Katya says, still in awe of the interaction."Does it look like I'm messing with fire?" I ask her, shrugging."Does it not look like it to you?" she asks, looking at me in disbelief."Look," she starts, holding my arm to stop me from walking. "I love that you're b

  • Frenemies: Ashley and Oliver   CHAPTER 24

“What the fuck, you should have given me a fucking notice before you yell like that” she retorts“Well you should have given us a little bit of a warning before you dropped that bomb on us” I snap back at her.“Weren’t you the one that asked about what happened?” she rhetorically question.“Were you guys talking about me?” someone suddenly ask.Looking only to discover that it is of course the one and only Declan, the guy is too self-absorbed for Christ’s sake.“And of course there is someone that thinks everything is about him” I whisper in a loud tone for him to hear.“Hey midget, watch your tone with me” he warns me, and of course I can’t go down without a fight.“Hey, vacuous, whose thinking is much lower than that of a chicken” I retort back.“What did you just say to me?” he asks angrily.“Although I do not even expect you to know the meaning of vacuous, you are to dumb to know that, right?” I reply him“Now he is not only an idiot, but also deaf, what can cure this” I reply him

Getting home, I immediately rush to my bathroom to take a very long much needed shower. I’m not the type to stay long in the showers, but being in a stranger’s house, for that number of hours make me itchy most times, especially now.Getting out of the shower feeling quite refreshed, I get into a very comfortable clothing which is basically grey in color. This makes me feel like I live in a fucking grey area. Fuck shit!Bringing out my AP Biology textbook, I start reading before I am interrupted by a slam on the front door.“I’m home” my Dad yells out.Which makes me think of different reasons why he should fucking yell, like the house is not that big, and with that fucking slam of the door, then I should be able to know that he is back, not minding the fact that I locked the door with the key and apart from me, he is the only person that has the key to the front door.“Hey, I said I’m home” my dad says, suddenly opening my door.“Okay” I mumble.“Young lady, that is no fucking way to

  • Frenemies: Ashley and Oliver   CHAPTER 22

Oliver’s POV “She seems to be by the main door already” Declan states. “I can see that, where is Duncan?” I ask him, since he seems to be nowhere in sight. “He is coming, he went back to get something from the library” he tells me “Oh, okay” “Hope you didn’t have to wait for so long” I ask Ash, on getting to her side. “Nope” “But you will still going to wait more, we have to wait for my brother” Declan tells her. Looking at her side view as she waits silently, her pose attracts more attention than someone who throws herself around to get validation. She seems to have softened my heart, without much conversation with her, she has affected me. Maybe it is because of our first encounter, how arrogant she spoke and behaved, maybe that was what drew me in. Or maybe it was because of what I heard from Damien when we talked at the party of how she answered him. Or what I’ve heard about her, which of course is not much apart from the rumors of her old school, which no one had been

  • Frenemies: Ashley and Oliver   Chapter 21

Oliver’s POVWhen I heard the teacher call her name as part of the group, I was actually surprised, but again, she said, she might not even pair us with our friends.Although I am a little bit happy she is in our group and also disappointed that we won’t really get close even though we are in the same group. After appreciating me for what I did in the cafeteria, which was unexpected by the way, I returned into scrolling through Twitter, to become close to her is really difficult. With her I-don’t-give-a-fuck look aura she carries.A bubble appears on my phone to indicate I have received a message.Opening it to see it was Dec who messaged.‘What do you think she is doing?’ it says, I look at Dec, he shrugs, then look at Ashley to point out how she is looking around.‘No idea’ I message back.‘Maybe you should ask her, since you seem so interested in her affairs’ I send to him.‘Fuck you’ he sends with the middle finger emoticon.“Ash, should we start the project today or another day?”

  • Frenemies: Ashley and Oliver   CHAPTER 20

Ashley’s POV Walking back to my class together with Katya and Jun, ‘cause coincidentally we all have the same subject together. “Was there any home work given to us last class” Katya asks me, taking the seat beside mine, and Jun bringing a seat to seat beside her. “Nope” I tell her. “I didn’t have the time to check if the Art teacher gave us assignment or not, I was busy with house chores yesterday” she complains. Knowing her, it might have been her washing the dishes. She is too lazy to do most of her homework, and most times does it in school. Some minutes later, Oliver and his friends come in, but of course not without Declan glaring at me before being pushed forward by his brother. A fucking child, like who the fuck gets angry all the time. Immediately after the end of lunch, the teacher comes in. “I know I didn’t give you assignment the last time we had class, therefore I am giving you two assignments to be submitted in the next class” she says, bringing out her books.
