The Betas finally let go of me when they were satisfied with how far away from the pack I was. In the middle of the forests with nothing but the wounds and bruises that covered my skin leaving a trail of blood on the ground.

“You deserve to die.” One of them spat before turning around to leave and the others followed immediately.

I laid there, my back on the hard dirty earth, my body seething with the pain from the bruises and my eyes fixed on the empty sky. I knew I had to leave that place or else I'd become food for the rouges. I had to find somewhere safe but my body, too weak to move thought otherwise so I just stayed there, helpless.

“My life is already over so what else was there to fight for.” I muttered, my eyes tear rimmed.

As the sun began to set, my body began to decline in strength, I had lost all the energy I had left including the little one that was keeping me awake.

I swallowed hard, my throat burning with thirst. There was nothing I could do but to accept the fate that was handed to me by the moon goddess. I stared at the moon and the little stars that danced around it, at least I was worthy of being awarded a sight so beautiful before I got eaten alive.

Soon, my body tired out and I felt my lids close waiting to be awakened by the snarls of my predators.

“Andrea! Andrea! Please wake up! Andrea please.” I heard a familiar voice cry out, a voice that didn’t sound like the snarls of rogues at all.

I pried my eyes open despite the terrible banging in my head and those beautiful brown eyes that shined golden in the moonlight stared back at me.

“Clover? How did you find…”

“Shhh, don’t speak, save your strength.” She interrupted, guiding me up into a sitting position by leaning my back on a tree.

I obeyed as the pounding in my head grew louder causing me to close my eyes. Immediately, she began to clean my wounds and mend my bruises, something she was well known for across all packs which earned her the best doctor title. It was a gift the moon goddess blessed her with.

I stayed still, letting her work her magic and soon the pain I felt began to fade away and I slowly opened my eyes.

“Here, drink this.” She ordered, handing me a bottle of water which I took and emptied into my mouth, the cool taste a welcome respite from all the pain.

“You shouldn’t be here.” I managed to say.

“Yes, we shouldn’t be here.” She replied, too busy with cleaning the last of my wounds to look at me.

I flicked my head up at the sky and saw the full moon. It was only a matter of time before the rogues got here and even though I was ready to die, I couldn’t let Clover meet the same fate.

“We need to get to a safe place to pass the night before those nasty rogues get here.” She muttered and I nodded.

I winced in pain as she helped me up and together we walked through the dark forest in silence. I guess navigating it wasn’t difficult for her because every wolf has night vision and I was the only unfortunate person without a wolf.

Soon, we found a shabby shed in front of a small lake and hand in hand, we walked in. “I think we should spend the night here.” She said as I scanned the area. “I couldn’t drive my car into the forest, that would have been the perfect place to crash.” She hissed.

“Are you sure it’s safe here? What if it belongs to the rogues?” I asked.

“I’m sure you know that they don’t stay at a place, they roam about seeking prey so I doubt this place belongs to one of them, trust me.” She whispered.

I took a deep breath, finding a place beside her on the floor. The shed was dry but the air was quite moist, I placed my head on her shoulder while sleep tugged at my eyes.

“What on earth are you going to do now?” She whispered and I shrugged. “I’ll worry about that tomorrow.” I replied.

It wasn’t until the sun rays kissed my face that I woke up the next morning when I finally opened my eyes. They fell on Clover who was lying across from me, her chest heaving with slow breaths as she slept.

I stood up, my body feeling much more relaxed and ready despite being covered with bruises, that’s how good Clover is at what she does.

“Where are you going?” She asked just as I was about to walk out the door and I realized I wasn’t as discreet as I hoped to be.

“For a stroll.” I spun around to face her and I watched her stand up and walk up to me, “we don’t have that kind of time to waste.” She said as she walked past me and out of the shed.

“What are you talking about?” I asked, trying to keep up with her.

She finally stopped walking, her tattered brown hair dancing around as the wind blew. “I’m taking you somewhere safe, somewhere you can lay low for a while until James and Valeria’s lies are exposed.” She explained and my eyes narrowed, confusion etched on my face.

“And where is that?” I asked, searching her eyes for answers, she quickly looked away.

“It’s a different pack, one I worked in a few years ago. They are kind people you just have to sneak in before the pack activities start or else you might be mistaken for a rogue.” She explained, the words tumbling out in a rush.

“I don’t have any pheromones. No one is going to mistake me for anything, but how can I live amongst strangers? I can’t possibly do that.” I protested.

“What better idea do you have Andrea?” She lashed. “You can’t go back to Bloodfang, you can’t stay here otherwise you’ll become food for predators. If you have a better idea I’ll love to hear it.”

I didn’t have a better idea…

Andrea Clover’s scent disappeared with the wind and I slowly drifted back into my ocean of thoughts, letting the waves drown me until I couldn’t breathe anymore. She made it clear that she’d find a new home for me…a place more suitable than here. But that was exactly what she said to me when she convinced me to come here. I wanted to believe that she had a better place in mind for me, but most of me already knew that she didn’t. A knock on my door jerked me back to the present and I slowly sat up on the bed, pressing down on my temple like it would reduce the throbbing sensation inside there. “Come in..” my voice echoed barely above a whisper. The hinges creaked and the door pushed open, Don walked in and shut the door behind him. He walked over to my bed and stood at a distance, coughing softly into his fist. “I see you’re recuperating really fast.” He started, scanning me thoroughly. “I’m trying..” I replied dryly, trying as much as I could to not meet his eyes. “

“Oh my goddess, Andrea are you okay?” Clover asked, her voice so high it made the unbearable headache I was having more unbearable. Instinctively, I reached for my head, my face scrunched up in pain. “Sorry.” She frowned, handing me a cup of water which I gulped down immediately. “Are you okay?” She asked again.I took a deep breath, wondering if I was truly okay as memories of everything I’d been through within the last few hours came rushing back.I blinked back the tears as I remembered how mean the men were to me for absolutely no reason. Because I was wolfless? It made no sense.“I’m not okay,” I finally managed to say. Just as Clover was about to offer me a bit of comfort, the door flung open and both our heads cocked towards it. A young maid walked in with a plate of hot porridge, the smell wafting through the air and my stomach growling in response. She set it down on the table beside me, her face filled with visible disgust. “Master Don told me to bring this to you…” She

Andrea My life had just gone from a decent and comfortable one to something I can’t even understand anymore. Don would never look at me the same way anymore. The good reputation I had built here quickly crashed right before my eyes. Everyone would soon start to avoid me like I was some deadly plague. And to top it all, Don no longer has any use of me at the counter, I didn’t even know what to expect from working behind with the wine makers. The music went on outside, but I could feel the shift in the atmosphere. I heard their mumblings from inside here and even though their words were inaudible, I could tell they were speaking of me. I lay on the old bed, pulling the sheets over my face like it would block out the gut wrenching feeling in my chest. But of course I was only wasting my time. The voices slowly became distant as people dispersed. I heard shuffling outside my door as the other workers went back and forth. “I can’t believe she fooled everyone..” I heard s

Andrea My heart froze, and in that moment it felt like time had stood still and we were the only people in the room. I felt my body quiver as I watched the smile on her face grow wider. Why always me? Why was I never allowed even the slightest bit of happiness? “What sister? Aren’t you happy to see me?” She smiled, her voice laced with mischief. I swallowed hard, looking around to see if anyone was perhaps listening to us but the sound of the loud music and their happy chattering confirmed that it was impossible. “What are you doing here?” I managed to ask, my voice breathless and she let out a hysterical laughter. “What am I doing here? Oh honey I believe that’s a question for you.” She replied, her voice firm and eyes radiating with all the hatred she had for me. She quickly walked past me, gliding through the crowd while I watched quietly, unable to move or even say a word. Why did she have to come here? It could have been any other bar, any other tavern, why here? Did so

AndreaThe morning sun kissed my face warmly and my weary eyes fluttered open. I stirred on the old bed, stretching my arms above my head. Footsteps shuffled outside briskly, like everyone was hurrying somewhere. Children wailed, mothers whined and nagged. I sat up on the bed, my fingers digging into my ruffled hair as I waited patiently for my brain to fully wake up.A soft knock on the door disrupted my solitude and I reluctantly dragged my sore legs to see who the caller was. “Good morning miss Andrea..” the owner of the tavern greeted, his creased eyes smiling warmly at me like a father would smile at his little ones. “Good morning sir…” I greeted back. “Please call me Don… it’s short for Donovan.” His voice dropped weakly as his frail fingers held on to the hinges of the door. “I just wanted to let you know that your sister mentioned that your journey to this place was a long and tedious one. So you can take the day off to rest fully, then you can resume tomorrow..” he offe

Andrea“Clover?” The old man continued, leading us into another room. The smell of burning incense and raw gin pierced through the air, making my nose scrunch up. I pushed the old dusty curtain aside before leaning into the room. “You know if she has to stay here, I need to at least know what it is you’re both hiding from. So I can protect her if it ever comes down to that..” he urged on. I gestured to Clover not to speak and she already understood even before I said anything. “I wish I could disclose everything to you, but it’s beyond what we both can say. I’m just going to need you to please keep her hidden for my sake. I can’t lose her..” she said, her shoulders dropping lower than anything I’ve ever seen. Her voice dipped into something that yearned to be pitied and the old man took her word for it… hook, line and sinker. “Fine..” he sighed, rubbing the bald spot on his head. “I’ll keep her here..” “Thank you so much sir… I really appreciate it.” Gratitude warmed my voice a
