Ralph’s POV

To be single at 40 is to have your friends bring you new she-wolves every week and try to force you to make a choice. Some I dump after a one-night stand, some I date for about 3 months, and then the relationship ends.

I don’t think I was built for this romantic nonsense, I’m a lone wolf.

“Our pack needs a luna,” Anne said, handing me a glass as we sat in the lounge drinking and chitchatting.

“Whoa! Relax,” I exclaimed. Moonlight wasn’t an official pack, at least not yet. I built that estate and created a new settlement for all rogues but I still didn’t consider it a pack yet.

“Why?” Anne queried me.

“We’re just a bunch of rogues living in a human society, what do you need an alpha and luna for?” I said sarcastically.

Anne looked pissed off. “But Ralph, you know our community views you as our leader. That’s why we elected you as our mayor, so you can protect our interests in this city. That’s what an Alpha does for his pack—protection and providing.”

“So what is the name of our pack? The rogue pack?” I asked sarcastically again.

“You chose moonlight, remember?”

When I was banished my pack and formed this city, my intention wasn’t exactly to form my own pack and rule but for some reason it seems to have happened by accident.

“Don’t worry, I promise that you will like this girl, it will not end in three months like all your other relationships.” She assured me.

I chuckled but then paused when I saw why she had said that. A beautiful and curvy she-wolf walked up to us, and my wolf began to act irrationally. Maybe it was because of the way she was dressed. She was in shorts that accentuated her curves, a blouse that only covered essential parts of her boobs and most importantly she was beautiful.

“Hi, I’m Melody.” She extended her hand for a handshake. I shook it slowly and then I got lost in her eyes. This was definitely going to be another one-night stand, a magical one. I was starving anyway I hadn’t had any action going on for me recently.

“Sit with us Melody,” Anne said. “Looks like the Alpha likes you already.”

Melody giggled and joined us, “he looks even more handsome in person,” she whispered to Anne.

“I heard that.” I playfully responded and she giggled again.

“Should I excuse you two?” Anne mind linked me.

“Erm… I don’t know.” I linked back.

“You will like her, trust me. She’s fun.” She linked me back and quickly got up to deny me my protesting rights.

“Enjoy the party loves.” She kissed Anne bye and trotted away.

Melody rolled her eyes seductively at me and flashed a clean smile at me, she leaned closer and her boobs did a little jiggle, I stared at them and back at her.

“So Melody, what do you do?” I asked trying to strike up a boring conversation that would eventually lead to something sensual then she would end up in my bed like every other girl.

“I’m a meteorologist and if you watch the news frequently you’ll notice that I give updates every Tuesday and Thursday night.” She proudly answered my question.

“I’ve never seen you before, but I think it’s because I listen to the news in the morning instead of the evening,” I replied and only realized that I may have been a little bit rude because she went red in the face. It was like she expected me to know her,

“I’m sorry did I say anything wrong?”

“No, you didn’t, I must’ve overestimated my popularity.” She replied. “Well, I also own a…”

I wasn’t listening to her, my senses were tingling, I smelled something familiar, the scent of someone I knew or maybe didn’t know. I thought the scent would get stronger so I could make out who it was but it didn’t, it just kept getting faint.

“Can you excuse me for a second? I’ll be back.” I said to Melody and made my nose lead me to the source of the scent.

“He’s seen our IDs and yet he says we can’t go in so let’s leave.” A familiar voice was saying to another person, she sounded a bit upset. It must’ve come from the entrance so I hurried in that direction.

“We’re not kids, okay, let us in!” The other voice yelled.

“I already told you that the party is not for the likes of you. It’s for only dignitaries of this society.” The bouncer said.

“What is this, a cult?” The familiar voice asked.

I used my super speed to get to the entrance trying to understand what was going on and the faces behind the voices.

“Al…” the bouncer almost called me but stopped. So I guess those two ladies weren’t werewolves. I drew in a deep breath, of course, they were not, what was I thinking?

“What’s happening here?” I asked the bouncer.

“These two ladies want to join the party inside even after I denied them entry. They don’t seem to understand the requirements for entry.” The frustrated bouncer narrated to me.

I looked at the ladies again then that was it I could recognize the other one now, it was the lady from yesterday who took my 100 bucks. Did she use it to buy that dress and some makeup for the party? Because she looked very different from the last time I saw her. She was indeed beautiful, but what did she want? Why was she here again? What did Cory owe this girl? I had to get to the bottom of it.

I pointed at her, “Have we met before?”

She seemed to freeze when I spoke to her, was this girl alright?

“I can’t do this,” she said to her friend and started to hurry away.

“Stop right there!” I unintentionally barked, freezing her in her tracks.

Alison’s POVOn a normal day, you’ll think that you’ll take flight when confronted by a wolf but the feeling isn’t the same when you finally meet one. As it growled at me I froze. What do you do when you are trapped in the groves with a wolf? Do you drop to the floor and play dead or freeze till it walks away? I have no answer for that. I just stood there sweating and trying not to cry.I was so sorry for disobeying Mr. Vandyke, he had warned me against such places at night but I didn’t listen, this was all my fault and now I was going to be eaten by a wolf.Just as the animal charged towards me, another one sprang out of nowhere and they started to fight. I dropped to the floor and shuffled backwards. Trying to get away from the fighting scene.Just then another person appeared. I recognized him as the guard who asked me not to leave. The wolves escaped the moment he appeared which shocked me. Why were they running away from a normal human being like me? What the hell is wrong with t

  • From Heartbreak To Stepmom   Chapter 14

Alison’s POVThey stopped at Vandyke’s house, not a hospital like I had expected them to. When I saw the building, no one had to tell me it was his. It was massive, like four houses merged together, yet he was single, and Cory didn’t even live with him. Poor guy.I was the first to climb down wondering what the guards were going to do next, they also climbed down and brought his stretcher out, then just like that they set him down in the driveway, dressed his wound, and bandaged it - no hospital.I watched in disbelief as he sat down, though under anaesthesia, gave orders like he hadn’t been shot. Who was this guy? Was he not rather… weird? Who was he?I watched as they placed a sling over his shoulder and then he got up like it was all alright. He swaggered to the entrance and then stopped and turned around, “First aid lady! Come here!” he called out to me, then proceeded to enter the building. I followed him and one of his guards into the house.“Follow me.” He instructed me again

  • From Heartbreak To Stepmom   Chapter 13

Alison’s POVI got a message that my application to volunteer at the games had been accepted but here was the problem, I had been accepted for both ring girl and first aid. I guess it was my lucky day. I lied about having a background in first aid just to have a better chance at getting on the team because I was afraid that I wasn’t attractive enough to be selected as a ring girl.I took all my ID’s and my next destination was the King’s Carlton stadium which was not too much of a journey from where I lived.“Are you Alison Quinn?” One of the organizers of the boxing event asked.“Yes sir!” I responded.“Good! You can be the ring girl for the first match, go to the dressing room and get some makeup done.” He instructed.“Okay sir.” I replied, followed a group of girls into a dressing room. I was hoping to catch a glimpse of Vandyke but there was no sign of him. So I waited patiently for my turn to get my makeup done.I looked at myself in the mirror and gasped, I always thought I wasn

  • From Heartbreak To Stepmom   Chapter 12

Alison’s POVHis question left me hanging, I didn’t know what to say in response because yes, he was the target but how do you let your prey know that you are planning to attack them? Weren’t you setting yourself up for failure?I smiled, “You’re right, Mr. Vandyke. You are my target.” I paused and folded my arms. “But not for the reason you think.” I mustered courage and walked closer to him. " Your son embarrassed my mother and me, and when I came to the office, it was to embarrass him too at his workplace, but then I found out he was the son of the CEO. It would be better if I embarrassed you instead. I don’t like Cory. I could never.”I lied with so much confidence that I’m sure he believed me this time.“Embarrass me?”“Yes sir, you clearly didn’t raise your son right! He got dumped by a woman and he decided to embarrass her and her daughter at her workplace!” Roberta added more spice to the story. Well, maybe too much spice because the man’s face changed and I could swear his ey

  • From Heartbreak To Stepmom   Chapter 11

Alison’s POV “To meet Vandyke again, I think you should go to his office with your application letter, tell him you considered his job offer,” Roberta suggested excitedly as if it were that easy. “Don’t forget that I don’t want to see Cory every day, the workplace is a no-go area for me. And besides you should see him at work, he’s 10 times scarier than he was at the club.” I argued. “Then how are we going to meet him? He banned us from coming to his country at night.” Roberta queried me. Roberta and I weren’t close way back in the university, we both dropped out in the second year and we still weren’t close. We both met each other at the same workplace and that’s how our friendship picked up but she has never been to my apartment nor have I been to hers. But look at us bonding over some man we want to trap. “Can’t you forget about Cory and just go to his workplace?…” “Even if I do, I might not get to see him. You know he’s a very busy man, I heard that he barely even goes to th

Ralph’s POV I didn’t know where Charlotte’s shop was, so I had to call one of Cory’s bodyguards. While I waited for a response, Anne linked me again. “Ralph! Where are you? Can you come over? Melody wants to give you another chance.” I chuckled. That lady didn’t make it to my bed, so I expected her to count herself lucky and leave me alone. It looks like she wants to join my long list of one-night stands. Before you say that I’m a bad guy you should understand me. I own a successful company, and I’m a successful politician too. All of this with no wife so I’m the target of most women. Everyone wants to try their luck with me but unfortunately, nobody seems to be a perfect fit, it’s like I am cursed. “Not now Anne, I’m in the middle of something.” I linked back. “Saturdays are your resting days, don’t lie to me. Should I bring her over?” She linked again. Damn it Anne never knew when to stop. It’s like my singleness bothered her more than it bothered me. “Leave me alone before
