LOGINAlison’s POV
I don’t know why I let Roberta talk me into this but the very sight of Ralph Vandyke set me straight. The man scares me, I have no idea why! His mere presence sends shivers down my spine. As badly as I wanted to get my revenge after Cory’s betrayal, his father was just not a man I saw myself getting into bed with. There was just something unusual about him, it put a lot of fear in me. As I tried to escape he called out in the most terrifying tone ever, “Stop right there!” I don’t know why I stopped when this man asked me to, I had been humiliated by the bouncer and just wanted to go home but he had suddenly appeared and made things worse. Now everyone outside was looking at me and Roberta, especially me. He walked up to me and placed both hands on his hips. “Why are you leaving so soon? Didn’t you come here to party?” He asked sarcastically and I expected him to laugh or smile after that question but he didn’t. He was honestly expecting an answer. I was going to say something but didn’t even know where to start from, “erh… yes.” “So where do you think you’re going?” “Your bouncers say my friend and I don’t belong to your class or society so we are on our way out,” I responded with a wave of bravery. “Let them in.” He sternly instructed the bouncer who stared at him like he had lost his mind. “But…” “Just let them in.” He insisted and led us inside, I turned to look at Roberta, a bit upset that she had gotten us into this mess, but she only shrugged and smirked, looking happy that it had turned out this way. He led us to some seats behind the counter and pointed to them. “Sit down you two.” He said. We obeyed with no fuss, “On Monday you were at my office demanding payment from my son. Today you’re here quarreling with my bouncer, what do you want?” He said, pouring glasses of wine. He passed one to Roberta and one to me. I didn’t drink mine, this guy looks devilishly dangerous. The last thing you want to do is drink something the devil gives you. He observed me for a second and then snatched my glass and downed the contents in one gulp. Then shrugged with a smile, that was the first time I had seen him smile like that, my God! I never knew men in their 40s were this drop-dead gorgeous. “See? I’m not trying to poison you.” He said. Very observant, it was almost as if he could read my mind by just looking at me. “Now tell me, is this about Cory again? What did he do to you?” I stole a glance at Roberta who stole one back at me and shook her head, I got the message. “No, this isn’t about Cory. Roberta and I heard that there was a party going on here and we’re… we’re tired of being single and… and broke so we came here to erm, meet some rich guys.” I stuttered and fumbled wondering if my story made any sense. He laughed again, “If you’re looking for men you’re in the wrong place,” he laughed again and shook his head, I looked around trying to make sense of what he had just said, there were men around so what did he mean? “Listen, you ladies shouldn’t be hanging around these places at this time of the night. It’s not safe, if you’re looking for men, go somewhere else. Stay away from Moonlight County and if you need money find a job. Do you want me to hire you girls at Elektro Hardware?” He said. “Yes, yes, yes.” Roberta chimed. I was quite cross with her for that, we both were dropouts from college in our second years. We didn’t have the qualifications to get employed at that company. Also, why would I want to work in a place where I get to see Cory every day? I didn’t come here for a job. “How about you… what’s your name?” He suddenly asked. “Alison Quinn.” “Quinn, don’t you also need a job?” “Uh… I just came here for a man, I have a job…” I can feel Roberta glaring at me from my peripheral vision but I ignore her. “Clearly it’s not paying well if you’re looking for a rich guy…” Suddenly a woman crept up on him and tried to kiss but he moved away as if he had eyes behind his head. This guy was let’s say… alert. “Al…” “Hey! Melody! Are you leaving already?” He said. “You left me all alone, thought we were on a date?” The lady complained. Roberta gasped, “You’re the one who gives the weather forecast on the late news.” I could swear that the lady’s eyes changed color from pure joy. “Yes it’s me, and you just jacked my date.” “We’re so sorry, we were just on our way out,” I said getting up, and in haste to leave, I grabbed Roberta and dragged her after me. “Thank you, Mr. Vandyke, for the drink and the job offer but since there are no ‘men’ here we will be on our way,” I said dragging Roberta as she protested. “It’s late at night, at least let me drop you girls somewhere you can find your kind of guys.” I turned around sharply to look at him, I wasn’t the only one, Melody glared at him and other people in the club. It seemed like they weren’t expecting that from him. I wasn’t expecting it either. What was happening? Wasn’t he supposed to be on a date? “You see I told you… he’s a playboy and here’s your chance to get that revenge!” Roberta whispered.1 month later Third person POV After a warm afternoon with Anne, Cory moved from the visitors' lounge and made his way back to his room. He opened the door and almost jumped out of his skin when he saw Alison seated on his bed and rocking one of her twins in her arms while the other one played and squealed in his baby seat. He frowned so hard that there were visible lines on his forehead, “Who allowed you inside?” He barked. Alison smiled, “Now that’s the real you! Your dad said you had sobered up and I just knew it was an act!” He quickly toned down to prevent any further trouble, he had to be on his best behavior if he wanted to get out of this place. “What do you want?” He sat beside her on the bed, “I came to invite you to our it’s in two months, hope you will be there?” She asked with a mischievous smile on her face. “You could have just sent me an invitation, you didn’t have to come all the way.” Cory rolled his eyes. “Aawww Cory, do you think that’s the only
Alison POVI sat on my bed at the hospital watching Ralph through the screen as he mounted the podium to deliver his speech. The camera panned to the team behind him and my smile got even bigger when I saw Anne amongst the members of the winning team. If she’s there, it’s a good sign, I’m hopeful that Ralph will eventually forgive her, he’s just taking baby steps.“First of all, I will like to thank each and every one of you who exercised their franchise, and a big thank you to those who voted for me, I pledge to continue to work to serve the interests of the people in this county. My boys started crying at the same time and I didn’t know who to comfort first. They had tags on their hands that had the numbers, 1 & 2 written on them, to indicate which one was born first and which one was born next. I wanted to comfort both of them at the same time but they’re big pups, and I just had surgery, so I’m not permitted to put pressure on my body. To be fair to both of them, I carried one in
Ralph POVTrust me, I want to forgive everyone, especially Anne. I want to go back to my usual mood and be there for Alison as our pups are in NICU but it’s so hard dealing with what I was going through. I didn’t want to be moody, but I couldn’t be on my best behavior so I did the unthinkable and went to see Cory at the asylum. He looked surprised to see me, but his frown soon melted into a smile, “Have you come to tell me you won? I already know, congratulations.” He sounded so calm and mature after a few days here, I'm glad he looks better but knowing Cory he could be pretending.I sat beside him on his bed and kept mute. It didn’t look like he enjoyed the awkward silence but he didn’t say a word, he just allowed me to be quiet and even offered me some of his lunch.“Dad, are you okay?” He finally asked.I let out a deep sigh and shook my head, “Guess what I just found out?”I could see his interest piquing, “That Alison’s pups ain’t yours?”There he goes again attacking Alison’s c
Third Person POVHe couldn’t have heard their conversation right? The music was way too loud, there were a lot of growls and snarls too and they were seated a bit too far from the fire exit, these were the questions that ran through their minds as Ralph began to approach them, Lynn turned to Anne,“I will make him forgive you if you promise to talk to him to come with me to see his father.” It sounded like a good bargain, but Anne didn’t want Ralph to go and see his father; he was a bad father who sacrificed his son to save his marriage. He never defended Ralph, perhaps because he reminded him of his own mistakes.“Maybe let’s just tell him the real story, let’s allow him to decide for himself what he wants to do,” Anne replied.Ralph walked up to the table and sat down. He stared at their faces and sighed. “Who do I call mom?”Anne looked at Lynn with a lot of hatred while Lynn put on a pathetic look so she could play her victim card well.“I’m still your mother Ralph, even if I did
Third Person POVAnne set up a table in the corner of the club and waited for Iris and Mike to join her. The mood in the club was charged; everyone seemed excited except for Anne, who looked drained. Iris tapped her hand as she and her husband sat down.“Have you guys booked the conference hall for Ralph’s thank-you speech on Monday?” she asked.Iris and Mike smiled fondly. “We have,” Mike muttered.“Aww, you care so much about him even when he’s being a stubborn goat!” Iris remarked“As stubborn as Ralph is, he’s not like his dad. At least that’s what I kept saying to myself when I saw him sleeping around with all the she-wolves.” Anne remarked. “His father was a big disappointment, lying to me and taking him away from me. Then watching him get maltreated and then abandoning him.”“I still can’t believe you’re his mother,” Mike said. “You could have at least told us?”Anne pursed her lips, let out a growl, “How was I going to say to you that, as a young she-wolf, I tried to break the
Alison POV“Oh, and I forgot to mention that your dad retained his seat. Four more years to do evil. I guess that man will never lose anything in his life.” My mom lamented while I giggled.“I’m glad he won,” I said to her. She didn’t look too pleased with what I said, but it’s true, I’m glad he won. “He will get so power drunk that he will eventually destroy himself. Just leave him alone.”“Girl! I thought we were friends”, Roberta’s voice sounded from the other end of the room. I turned sharply and covered my mouth. “How come I had to hear it on the news with everyone else?”“Sorry,” I whispered when she got closer, “A lot has been going on since I gave birth, as you can see, the babies are in NICU.” I pointed to my pups and gave her a sad puppy face. She gave me a side hug and greeted my mom.The pups had gone to sleep, so we moved back to my ward so we wouldn’t wake them up. My mom excused Roberta and me so we could have some privacy. When she left, I turned to Roberta and wiped
