Alison’s POV
I don’t know why I let Roberta talk me into this but the very sight of Ralph Vandyke set me straight. The man scares me, I have no idea why! His mere presence sends shivers down my spine. As badly as I wanted to get my revenge after Cory’s betrayal, his father was just not a man I saw myself getting into bed with. There was just something unusual about him, it put a lot of fear in me. As I tried to escape he called out in the most terrifying tone ever, “Stop right there!” I don’t know why I stopped when this man asked me to, I had been humiliated by the bouncer and just wanted to go home but he had suddenly appeared and made things worse. Now everyone outside was looking at me and Roberta, especially me. He walked up to me and placed both hands on his hips. “Why are you leaving so soon? Didn’t you come here to party?” He asked sarcastically and I expected him to laugh or smile after that question but he didn’t. He was honestly expecting an answer. I was going to say something but didn’t even know where to start from, “erh… yes.” “So where do you think you’re going?” “Your bouncers say my friend and I don’t belong to your class or society so we are on our way out,” I responded with a wave of bravery. “Let them in.” He sternly instructed the bouncer who stared at him like he had lost his mind. “But…” “Just let them in.” He insisted and led us inside, I turned to look at Roberta, a bit upset that she had gotten us into this mess, but she only shrugged and smirked, looking happy that it had turned out this way. He led us to some seats behind the counter and pointed to them. “Sit down you two.” He said. We obeyed with no fuss, “On Monday you were at my office demanding payment from my son. Today you’re here quarreling with my bouncer, what do you want?” He said, pouring glasses of wine. He passed one to Roberta and one to me. I didn’t drink mine, this guy looks devilishly dangerous. The last thing you want to do is drink something the devil gives you. He observed me for a second and then snatched my glass and downed the contents in one gulp. Then shrugged with a smile, that was the first time I had seen him smile like that, my God! I never knew men in their 40s were this drop-dead gorgeous. “See? I’m not trying to poison you.” He said. Very observant, it was almost as if he could read my mind by just looking at me. “Now tell me, is this about Cory again? What did he do to you?” I stole a glance at Roberta who stole one back at me and shook her head, I got the message. “No, this isn’t about Cory. Roberta and I heard that there was a party going on here and we’re… we’re tired of being single and… and broke so we came here to erm, meet some rich guys.” I stuttered and fumbled wondering if my story made any sense. He laughed again, “If you’re looking for men you’re in the wrong place,” he laughed again and shook his head, I looked around trying to make sense of what he had just said, there were men around so what did he mean? “Listen, you ladies shouldn’t be hanging around these places at this time of the night. It’s not safe, if you’re looking for men, go somewhere else. Stay away from Moonlight County and if you need money find a job. Do you want me to hire you girls at Elektro Hardware?” He said. “Yes, yes, yes.” Roberta chimed. I was quite cross with her for that, we both were dropouts from college in our second years. We didn’t have the qualifications to get employed at that company. Also, why would I want to work in a place where I get to see Cory every day? I didn’t come here for a job. “How about you… what’s your name?” He suddenly asked. “Alison Quinn.” “Quinn, don’t you also need a job?” “Uh… I just came here for a man, I have a job…” I can feel Roberta glaring at me from my peripheral vision but I ignore her. “Clearly it’s not paying well if you’re looking for a rich guy…” Suddenly a woman crept up on him and tried to kiss but he moved away as if he had eyes behind his head. This guy was let’s say… alert. “Al…” “Hey! Melody! Are you leaving already?” He said. “You left me all alone, thought we were on a date?” The lady complained. Roberta gasped, “You’re the one who gives the weather forecast on the late news.” I could swear that the lady’s eyes changed color from pure joy. “Yes it’s me, and you just jacked my date.” “We’re so sorry, we were just on our way out,” I said getting up, and in haste to leave, I grabbed Roberta and dragged her after me. “Thank you, Mr. Vandyke, for the drink and the job offer but since there are no ‘men’ here we will be on our way,” I said dragging Roberta as she protested. “It’s late at night, at least let me drop you girls somewhere you can find your kind of guys.” I turned around sharply to look at him, I wasn’t the only one, Melody glared at him and other people in the club. It seemed like they weren’t expecting that from him. I wasn’t expecting it either. What was happening? Wasn’t he supposed to be on a date? “You see I told you… he’s a playboy and here’s your chance to get that revenge!” Roberta whispered.Alison’s POVOn a normal day, you’ll think that you’ll take flight when confronted by a wolf but the feeling isn’t the same when you finally meet one. As it growled at me I froze. What do you do when you are trapped in the groves with a wolf? Do you drop to the floor and play dead or freeze till it walks away? I have no answer for that. I just stood there sweating and trying not to cry.I was so sorry for disobeying Mr. Vandyke, he had warned me against such places at night but I didn’t listen, this was all my fault and now I was going to be eaten by a wolf.Just as the animal charged towards me, another one sprang out of nowhere and they started to fight. I dropped to the floor and shuffled backwards. Trying to get away from the fighting scene.Just then another person appeared. I recognized him as the guard who asked me not to leave. The wolves escaped the moment he appeared which shocked me. Why were they running away from a normal human being like me? What the hell is wrong with t
Alison’s POVThey stopped at Vandyke’s house, not a hospital like I had expected them to. When I saw the building, no one had to tell me it was his. It was massive, like four houses merged together, yet he was single, and Cory didn’t even live with him. Poor guy.I was the first to climb down wondering what the guards were going to do next, they also climbed down and brought his stretcher out, then just like that they set him down in the driveway, dressed his wound, and bandaged it - no hospital.I watched in disbelief as he sat down, though under anaesthesia, gave orders like he hadn’t been shot. Who was this guy? Was he not rather… weird? Who was he?I watched as they placed a sling over his shoulder and then he got up like it was all alright. He swaggered to the entrance and then stopped and turned around, “First aid lady! Come here!” he called out to me, then proceeded to enter the building. I followed him and one of his guards into the house.“Follow me.” He instructed me again
Alison’s POVI got a message that my application to volunteer at the games had been accepted but here was the problem, I had been accepted for both ring girl and first aid. I guess it was my lucky day. I lied about having a background in first aid just to have a better chance at getting on the team because I was afraid that I wasn’t attractive enough to be selected as a ring girl.I took all my ID’s and my next destination was the King’s Carlton stadium which was not too much of a journey from where I lived.“Are you Alison Quinn?” One of the organizers of the boxing event asked.“Yes sir!” I responded.“Good! You can be the ring girl for the first match, go to the dressing room and get some makeup done.” He instructed.“Okay sir.” I replied, followed a group of girls into a dressing room. I was hoping to catch a glimpse of Vandyke but there was no sign of him. So I waited patiently for my turn to get my makeup done.I looked at myself in the mirror and gasped, I always thought I wasn
Alison’s POVHis question left me hanging, I didn’t know what to say in response because yes, he was the target but how do you let your prey know that you are planning to attack them? Weren’t you setting yourself up for failure?I smiled, “You’re right, Mr. Vandyke. You are my target.” I paused and folded my arms. “But not for the reason you think.” I mustered courage and walked closer to him. " Your son embarrassed my mother and me, and when I came to the office, it was to embarrass him too at his workplace, but then I found out he was the son of the CEO. It would be better if I embarrassed you instead. I don’t like Cory. I could never.”I lied with so much confidence that I’m sure he believed me this time.“Embarrass me?”“Yes sir, you clearly didn’t raise your son right! He got dumped by a woman and he decided to embarrass her and her daughter at her workplace!” Roberta added more spice to the story. Well, maybe too much spice because the man’s face changed and I could swear his ey
Alison’s POV “To meet Vandyke again, I think you should go to his office with your application letter, tell him you considered his job offer,” Roberta suggested excitedly as if it were that easy. “Don’t forget that I don’t want to see Cory every day, the workplace is a no-go area for me. And besides you should see him at work, he’s 10 times scarier than he was at the club.” I argued. “Then how are we going to meet him? He banned us from coming to his country at night.” Roberta queried me. Roberta and I weren’t close way back in the university, we both dropped out in the second year and we still weren’t close. We both met each other at the same workplace and that’s how our friendship picked up but she has never been to my apartment nor have I been to hers. But look at us bonding over some man we want to trap. “Can’t you forget about Cory and just go to his workplace?…” “Even if I do, I might not get to see him. You know he’s a very busy man, I heard that he barely even goes to th
Ralph’s POV I didn’t know where Charlotte’s shop was, so I had to call one of Cory’s bodyguards. While I waited for a response, Anne linked me again. “Ralph! Where are you? Can you come over? Melody wants to give you another chance.” I chuckled. That lady didn’t make it to my bed, so I expected her to count herself lucky and leave me alone. It looks like she wants to join my long list of one-night stands. Before you say that I’m a bad guy you should understand me. I own a successful company, and I’m a successful politician too. All of this with no wife so I’m the target of most women. Everyone wants to try their luck with me but unfortunately, nobody seems to be a perfect fit, it’s like I am cursed. “Not now Anne, I’m in the middle of something.” I linked back. “Saturdays are your resting days, don’t lie to me. Should I bring her over?” She linked again. Damn it Anne never knew when to stop. It’s like my singleness bothered her more than it bothered me. “Leave me alone before
