LOGINChapter 3
Eva’s POV
I was woken up by the sunlight pouring in through the window of the room I shared with three other omegas. I was on the bottom bunk, as I was the lowest-ranked Omega in this room. So I received the worst bunk.
The sun always woke me up every single morning. The other side of the room was still dark, and the top bunk on our side of the room wouldn’t have the light hit her bunk face for an hour. I was always awake at first light, even on days I could sleep in.
But then I remember what happened last night. I sat up and looked around. What is going on here? I remember seeing Tori and Keefe being murdered right in front of me. I had died, too. I could still remember how it felt as my blood left my body with each beat of my heart. I felt my heartbeat get weaker as I neared the end. I remember Claudia’s smirk and the triumphant gleam in her eyes at thinking that she had bested me.
But when I touched my neck, I felt nothing. There wasn't even a scar. What is going on?
“We’ve been given a second chance, Eva.” I heard someone say. I looked around the room, but everyone in here with me was still asleep. I could hear them snoring.
“It’s not any of them, Eva. I’m your wolf, Meari. The Moon Goddess decided to bless you after all your suffering. If you were killed last night, it removed the spell that blocked your power and had locked me away as well. It’s time to leave here, Eva. We never belonged here in the first place. You have a family. A family that the Moon Goddess said never stopped looking for you. It’s time for us to go home,” the voice spoke again.
“I have a wolf?” I asked out loud.
“You don’t have to speak, Eva. We are one. I know your thoughts, and you will learn to read mine as well. We can silently communicate with each other through a mindlink. You need to get ready. Do you have anything here that you want to take with you?” Meari asked.
“No, I don’t. I just want to leave. But were Tori and Keefe reborn, too?” I asked.
“Since the Moon Goddess put us back a month’s time. They are fine. They are alive, and since they won’t have to come here to rescue you, they will not be killed. Not until their time comes,” Meari replied. I sagged in relief at hearing that.
“How do we get out of here?” I asked.
“We were brought back to life an hour ago, Eva. But your mother checks for your presence every single day. She is about to cast the spell at 7 a.m. She does it every morning, so just be patient. Get changed, we will be leaving here soon.” Meari replied.
“You’re sure she will be able to sense me?” I asked. I was full of doubt that there was any way for her to know that I was alive. How would it even be possible?
But I was wrong. Ten minutes later, a shimmer appeared, and then I saw an older version of me standing in front of me with tears in her eyes. She stepped closer to me, and I saw that she had the same color hair as me. But instead of having my deep blue eyes with purple flecks, her eyes were almost all purple, with deep blue flecks. There was no way it could be anyone other than my mother.
“Don’t speak, baby, they are about to wake,” she said, and in the next instance, we were gone from the Shadow Fall pack, but I had no idea where we were now.
“My beautiful girl. I’ve missed you so much,” she told me, before pulling me into a hug. Hot tears were running down her face, but she still looked beautiful.
“You’ve found her?” someone asked, and I turned to see a man rush into the room. Was he my father? Did I really have a family? A family that's been looking for me all these years?
“I did. I sensed her the moment I checked for her this morning. She was forced to live in deplorable conditions. I left a magical trace behind so I can go back and deal with them properly. How dare they take my daughter and then force her to be their servant? I won’t allow that to happen without someone having to answer for it. I want to know how she even ended up there in the first place, Reese. But I really want to know how I could suddenly sense her this morning. You know exactly what that means,” my mother loudly declared.
“We’ve dealt with the group that betrayed us. I know what you need to know, but you have to calm down. She just came back to us; we don’t want to scare her. She's clearly been through a lot. I think it would be best to order breakfast and eat in our room today while we speak to her. That way we know that the conversation is private,” he said as he slowly crossed the room to approach me. It was clear that he was scared of startling me.
“You're my father?” I asked, but I could feel Meari wagging her tail in my mind. She liked him, but I still needed to ask.
“Yes, I'm your father. My name is Reese, and this beautiful woman is Kiara. You already recognized her as your mother. We’ve been looking for you for so long. I understand if you’re not comfortable calling us Mom and Dad yet. But I want you to know that we love you, and we never forgot about you. I’m so thankful that your mother sensed you and that we were able to get you back where you belong. But I do have questions, and it’s the very reason that your mother is so upset at the moment. If she could sense you, that is a very big problem for us. I can sense your wolf right now, and can scent you as my own. That means that either a powerful witch or wizard was able to remove the spell that was placed on you. It is either that, or you had something deadly happen to you. Can you tell us what happened? We need to get to the bottom of this,” my father replied.
Chapter 52Easton’s POV “Something so small? Are you messing with me, Ashley? As the Alpha, I have to be able to trust the ranked wolves under me. The fact that Grey is so blasé about disrespecting me points right back to you. He wasn’t like this before you showed up. Now he’s blowing off his job, ignoring blatant issues, letting you do the bare minimum in the pack. You can't even do your own job without his help. I don't have time to hold both your hands to help you get it done. I have my own work to do. Don’t think I’m unaware of what you and Miranda did just to get here in the first place,” I spoke with certainty. “You can’t be serious, Easton. We’ve known each other our entire lives. Would you strip me of my rank over an omission? Because I didn't qualify that Ashley was a chosen mate, not a true one? You know why I had to do that. You know how my parents are, what they expect. I made a choice, and honestly, Easton, it didn’t hurt anyone but me. I’m the one who had to reject
Chapter 51Easton’s POV "We're done, Miranda. You knew what this was between us. Don't try to make me feel guilty about it. You knew one day we would meet our mates, and it would be over. I said that from the start. There's no need for me to feel bad about ending it. We helped each other out. You knew as well as I did that there were never any feelings involved between us, Miranda. You were the one who suggested this deal in the first place? You know as well as I do that I wasn't your one and only. I was just one of many while you tried to get your hooks into someone. So, don't try to emotionally blackmail me now. We don't owe each other anything. I found my mate. I refuse to lose her over a dumb decision I made years ago," I stated coldly. I knew it hurt her, but I was speaking the truth. She got me worked up one night, and then suggested this deal. She knew exactly what she was doing. I was eighteen, and worked up into a frenzy. I wanted her badly. I didn't see the harm in he
Chapter 50Easton’s POV Gray was driving me crazy. I know that it’s because Ashley and Miranda are pushing him, but he needs to deal with them on his own. Instead, he keeps mindlinking me over and over again. He sure doesn’t seem to have a problem when he’s telling Elise what to do. Now that I know that his mate, Ashley, isn’t his true mate. I’m surprised by how much he defers to her when he shouldn’t. He is wrapped tight around her little finger. Mom and Dad were pretty angry that I wasn't going with them to meet Elise’s mate. They warned me he was a demon, and at first, I really thought they were joking. I thought that was a nickname he was called, like he was an excellent fighter or something. I found out quick it wasn’t a nickname. I knew exactly who he was after hearing his name. I also knew that Gray and Ashley needed to make sure to leave Elise alone from now on. Baylor wasn't going to give them a pass on their disrespect. I was meeting them in Gray’s suite, but when I
Chapter 49Eva’s POV I could see Gerald mindlinking her, pleading with her to stop speaking. He knew that Easton’s mate might be in the dining room with us. But it was much too late; Easton’s mate was sitting much closer than they ever suspected. How could they have known that they just accidentally told his mate what was going on? The very mate he couldn’t be bothered to spend a moment looking for was getting all the information she needed from his own parents. His mother was furious. Why wasn’t he here? I don’t think I need to draw this out any longer. My parents had been listening. I could tell the moment they mentioned he had sensed his mate at the sparring field, they both knew that he was my mate. “It’s been a long day. I’m sorry. I need to get some rest,” I told them before standing up. I hadn’t been able to sleep after my shower earlier. I just couldn’t turn my brain off. I just lay in bed, overthinking everything. I hated it, the feeling of being unwanted, of th
Chapter 48Eva’s POV I slipped into a maxi dress in an attempt to look like I dressed up. This was the extent to which I was willing to go. I planned to use tonight's dinner to cut through the crap and send those we didn’t need right back to their packs. I would be getting the names of those who came here to cut ties with our pack tonight from my parents and grandfather. I will have them advised in the morning that they are no longer welcome at the celebration. Dad wasn’t ready to step down, and I wasn’t trained to be the Alpha yet. But I wasn’t just going to start a war with these biased Alphas. I was just going to send the worst of the offenders home. Those on the fence could stay. I knew rumors about the fight I was in were running all over the pack. Some of the Alphas had actually changed their minds about me after witnessing that fight. They saw that I was much stronger than the rumors made me out to be. I didn’t want to be the reason the pack suffered; I never did. I wa
Chapter 47Eva’s POV In the end, I did not go searching for my mate. I went with my parents to the office to talk to them about scenting my mate. I wanted their input. I didn’t want to knee-jerk and reject him just because he ignored us. I assumed he was fighting, but the fact that he walked away from us, instead of towards us, was really pissing me off. We spoke of many things. The high Council member was going to stay through my celebration. It gave him visibility, and people were happy to see a member of the Council here to represent them. He was actually here to lay down the law for the Stone Fall pack, but none of us was going to correct them. My parents had a great relationship with the council. Everyone knew having him here was a sign of respect from the Council. I finally got around to telling my parents that I'd found my mate. It wasn’t surprising that his actions also pissed off my parents. I knew it was inexcusable. I was struggling not to let my past doubts creep u
