Chapter 4 A Piece of Cake

Six years later, in the hospital, a woman with a plain t-shirt and some old jeans came to the payment counter.

"Hello, the patient from room 461 is going to discharge." She said and took out the card.

And after doing the procedure, the receptionist told her that the money in her card was not enough. So, Ruby took out her wallet and added some cash to the payment. After the payment done, she looked at her wallet and she felt depressed. There were only a few cash left. And the payment for her new book will take some time too.

Ruby was an outstanding student in Drama major when she was attending the university. Because of surrogacy, she couldn't complete her drama major, so now she can't be an actress, she can only work as a typewriter in a small company. But her son needs to continue to take medicine.

Her son has always been a weak child since he was born although he is a very intelligent boy. And the time he visited the hospital is more than the time he reached to the playground. And the treatments for her son's heart problem cost a lot and Ruby is almost unable to afford it. She worked hard and saved most of it. But her saving never last long since she had to use it in her son's medical cost.

But she never felt regret about keeping him by her side. She thought that if she gave him to his father six years ago, the man will also try to give him the best treatment. So, she didn’t want her son to suffer in her hands because of her decision. And this is also one of the reasons she gave her son the best treatment in the best hospital.

Ruby walked back to his son's ward with a heavy heart. But when she opened the door and saw that his son was waiting for her on the bed with a smiling face, her heart was filled with love and content again. This is her son, her blood and flesh and a very lovely and obedient son who also loves his mother so much. She thinks all the struggling and suffering in her life is worthy to see her son's smile.

"Mommy, Larry is a good boy. Isn't it? Larry takes all the medicine obediently and get back well so Larry can discharge from the hospital." The little boy said with a smile.

Ruby bent down and kissed her son's head. "Of course, our Larry is the best. So, mommy is going to take you to the 'Cakey Bakey' Bakery to eat your favorite cake." She said with an amused tone and the little boy almost jumped out from the bed.

"Yay… Mommy is the best." And the little boy also stretched out his hand and hugged his mother and kissed her cheeks.

In the Bakery,

Ruby ordered the chocolate cake along with a glass of hot milk. The little boy dug the cake with the little fork and put it into his mouth. "Mom, it's so sweet and delicious. The cake is soft and the creams are sweet." The boy couldn't stop his smile.

Ruby was also smiling while looking at his son's face.

"Mom, why don’t you eat?" The little boy bit his fork and asked her with a cute face.

"Mommy is not hungry. And the dentist told mommy not to eat the sweet things." Ruby lied because she wanted her son to full while she couldn’t afford for another piece of cake.

But the boy was so smart and he noticed that her mommy counted the cash while paying for the cake at the counter a moment ago. So, he pushed the plate to his mother and said, "Last night, one of Larry's teeth was hurt too. So, Larry can't finish the cake alone."

Ruby almost sherd tear but she holds back her emotions and smiled, " How about mommy will feed Larry and Larry feeds mommy."

"Yay… " And the little boy cut a big piece and fed his mother. "Mommy do you know? My attending doctor asked me that where is my daddy before he checked me for the last time before I discharge."

"Really, when did he said?" Ruby listened to her son with much interest.

"When you are doing the discharge procedure?"

"Then what did you say?" Ruby asked calmly since she had already told her son that his father was deceased before she gave birth to him. Larry was also a smart child so, she had to make the dead end to stop his further questions that she won't be able to answer in the future.

"I said that daddy left mommy for another woman and guess what he said next." He said with an amused face.

Ruby knows that his son has been trying to find a man for her whenever he got a chance so, Ruby listened to him silently. "Mommy can't guess."

"He said that it can't be possible that he would leave such a beauty like you. Mommy, do you think that Doctor Li like you?" His son's words were straightforward and Ruby couldn’t help but laugh, "What make you think that he likes me?"

"Because, he asked for your number after that." He said calmly.

"And you gave it to her." Ruby asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Yes." Larry lowered his head and replied, almost like a whisper.

And Ruby took some cream with her finger, raised his chin and rubbed the cream on his nose. "Such a naughty boy."

Larry was also happy to see that his mother didn't got angry on her. So, he also tried to put the cream on his mother's face. And after a few minutes, they drunk the hot milk together happily.

But by a little boy sitting in a Bugatti ZB16-4 Veyron was not happy. Ruby and Larry was sitting near the glass wall so, they could be seen from the road. The little boy saw that they were eating the cake happily and he suddenly felt a new feeling and that is envy.

It’s the first that an indifferent expression appeared on his face. He envied this lovely relationship, even though that cheap cake was nothing to eat.
