Camilla couldn't sleep.

She sat in the guest bathroom of the Voughn estate in Connecticut at 4:15AM, she wakes up and took her phone; she was so surprised.

The photo of her and Sebastian was all over the Internet.

Sebastian.

His arms around her.

Her, pale and shaking, in a hospital gown, at St. Mercy in Manhattan.

And above it, the headline from _TMZ New York_:

*“BILLIONAIRE CAUGHT WITH NEPHEW’S WIFE. IS THE VOUGHN MARRIAGE OVER?”*

Her system changed; he was afraid, tried and shocked at the same time. “I am so tired of this kind of life,” she said to herself.

Five months. That’s all she had left on the contract.

Five months until she could walk away with the settlement and start over.

But Clause 8 glowed in her head like a warning sign:

_“If either party is found in a compromising position with another individual during the term of this marriage, said party forfeits 50% of the agreed settlement.”_

Fifty percent.

That was her mom’s surgery. That was a new apartment. That was freedom.

The door slammed.

“Camilla!”

Trent. He didn’t knock. He never did. Four years of marriage. And never gave her any form of respect.

She didn’t answer. She lost her voice at that point.

He kicked the door open. Bella was behind him, phone in hand, lips painted red like blood. Smirking.

“Did you see it?” Bella held up her phone. “It’s everywhere. I*******m, PagePix, T*****r. My God, Camilla. You really did it.”

“I don't understand. What did I do wrong? Helped in the hospital”

“Save it.” Trent snatched the phone from her hands. His eyes were cold. The same cold he used when he told her to abort their baby.

“You stupid girl. Do you know what you’ve done?”

Camilla stood. Looking so confused and weak. “He saved my life, Trent. I was bleeding. The baby—”

“I don’t care about the baby,” he shouted. Then, quietly, he said, “I care about my money. And my reputation.”

Bella laughed softly. “Oh, Trent. You should’ve married me. I would never embarrass you like this.”

Camilla looked at her stepsister. Really looked. The way Bella’s eyes flicked to Trent, then back to Camilla. Like she’d planned this.

“I knew you did this. You posted it,” Camilla said. It wasn’t a question.

Bella didn’t deny it. “Someone had to show the world what kind of wife you are.”

Trent turned on her. “As of today, I’m freezing your accounts. Let’s see how you pay for your mother’s hospital bills now.”

The words hit harder than the push at the stairs would later.

Camilla’s throat closed. Her mom. The surgery was next week.

“I need that money, please. My mum's surgery is next week. Didn't do anything wrong, he cried.

“You should’ve thought of that before you let my uncle touch you,” Trent said. He walked out. Bella followed, blowing her a kiss.

Camilla sank to the floor.

She thought to herself, “Trent has always been with other women, but just her sitting in the hospital with Sebastian is already all over the Internet. This world is so cruel to the poor.”

Her phone buzzed. Unknown number.

_“Are you okay? I’m so sorry. This is not your fault; I should have been more careful.”_

Sebastian.

Another buzz.

_“Don’t answer any calls. Don’t talk to the press. I’m sending my lawyer to you in 1 hour. We’ll fix this. Please don't hesitate to call me if you need to talk to someone.”

“Fix this; I don't even care about the press or whatever the public is saying about. Right now I just want money for my mother's treatment,” she said to herself, tears rolling down her cheeks.

She wanted to throw the phone. She wanted to scream.

Instead, she opened her email.

New message. Subject: *INTERVIEW - HOUSE MANAGER POSITION*

_“Ms. Camilla, we’d like to offer you the House Manager role at Sebastian Rich Enterprises. $10,000/month. Start Monday. - HR”_

But looking at the email again, she realized that she was working for SaSebastian

The only job she had. That Trent will still know about, and he will love to destroy it.

Since he doesn't like seeing her happy.

She hadn’t told him. She wasn’t going to.

He was never home anyway. And the last time she tried to work, he laughed and said, _"What do you even know how to do? Don't go out there and embarrass yourself."_

And if he found out she was working for his uncle, he would lose his mind.

He would make sure that before she got her first paycheck, he would force her to stop.

She closed the email quickly and deleted it from her inbox.

Her phone buzzed again.

And then a text from a number she didn’t save, but knew.

Trent: _“Stay away from him. Or I’ll make sure you leave this marriage with nothing, and you will be miserable.”_

Camilla stared at the ceiling. The marble, the chandelier, the contract that was supposed to set her free and give her a better life, is now a burden to her.

She had 5 months left.

And now the whole world thought she was cheating.

Her account was frozen.

Her new job was at risk.

And the only person who showed up for her was the one man she was threatened to stay away from.

Outside, she heard it. The sound of camera shutters. Flashes.

The paparazzi had found the Voughn estate gate.

Camilla looked at the mirror this time, to see how miserable she was already. “The baby is just one month old; he can still use this little energy to secure this job, so she really needs to be strong and stop crying.” She said to herself

She had survived Trent's coldness, Bella's humiliation and also survived losing her baby.

She wasn’t going to survive being broke and homeless in 5 months, but she was sure that with this job, she was going to secure a better life for her and her baby.

She picked up the phone. Dialed the only number that had ever answered at 3 AM.

“Sebastian,” she whispered when he picked up on the first ring. “I need your help.”

The next day, I went to bring Mom from the hospital to her house. The car was quiet. Sebastian drove me to the hospital. He didn’t put on music. He didn’t ask questions. I sat with my arms around myself. Tired. So tired it felt like my bones were heavy. He noticed. “Camilla,” he said softly. “You look worried.” I shook my head. “Nothing.” “Nothing,” he repeated. He stopped the car then turned to me. “You know that you can actually tell me anything. I’m always willing to listen.”I stared out the window. I have alot of things to say and I can't keep it, anymore.I was done pretending. “Why are you this nice to me?” I asked. My voice was small. Sebastian smiled a little. “Because I’m a nice guy.” “That’s not an answer,” I said. He sighed. “Okay. Because you deserve someone to be nice to you. Because you’ve been carrying too much alone. Because...” He trailed off. “Because I can’t stand seeing you hurt.” I looked down at my hands. The wedding ring felt cold.

The silence after my shout was louder than the music. Bella was the first to move. She slid off Trent’s lap like she’d been waiting for this. Wine glass still in her hand. Her eyes widened over me, like she wanted war.For one second, Trent didn’t say anything. He just stared at me. Jaw tight. Wine in his hand halfway to his mouth as he’d frozen. Then Bella stood in front of me and slapped me on my cheek. My cheek burned. My head snapped to the side. Looked at her in anger. “Why would you raise your voice at your husband because of that old fool who's supposed to be dead already?” Bella hissed. “Don’t you have manners?” I touched my cheek. My ears were ringing. She stepped closer. Close enough that I could smell the wine on her breath. “Since you don’t have manners, I will teach you.” Something hot exploded in my chest. Four years of her laughing and mockery. Of her in his bed, Of her sitting in my house controlling me like a maid because Trent supported her. M

I didn’t go home. Sebastian drove me straight from St. Mary’s to the penthouse . He didn’task questions. He just unlocked the guest room, set the bagels and clothes on the bed, and said, _“Rest,my dear. I’ll be in my office if you need anything.”_ I slept for 5hours. When I woke up, my phone had 2 messages from Sabastian. “Are you awake now?”_ The next message was after 8 minutes “what would you like to eat?” seeing his message, I smiled because I knew he was waiting for me to wake up and eat something. I replied the message “Yes, I am awake now, I would like to eat rice and stewed beef and salad.”He replied immediately “Okay dear, your food will be l served in 20mintues.” I was blushing forgetting, I am still married to that horrible guy Trent. After some minutes Sabastian brought the food to the guest room,he sat and watch me eat, when I was almost done, he asked “I was really worried about you that night, what really happened?”I was not ready to explain anything to Sabas

St. Mary’s Hospital smelled like disinfectant at 11:10 PM. Camilla arrived so quickly. She ran from the curb to the ER doors; she was breathing heavily. Her hair was scattered; she was covered in sweat. She didn’t even notice; all she cared about was her mother surviving.“Mrs. Vaughn, the nurse at reception looked up. “We’ve been waiting for you. Your mother is in pre-op. OR 5. Dr. Reyes is with her. We have given her something that can sustain her for a short period of time before the surgery.”Camilla nodded. Her throat was dry, and she was in so much shock and fear to speak. She walked slowly to pre-op, OR 5. She saw her mother on the bed, still unconscious, and Dr.Reyes injecting something in hinto mum's drip. She went straight to her mother, held her cold hands, and tears rolled down her eyes.Dr. Reyes looked at Camilla with pity.“She will be fine, yo; just have to pay the deposit needed for surgery,$50,000, so we can start the surgery immediately.”She looked at the doctor

Trent went to the living room. Lights off. Only the city glowed through the windows. Same green shirt from this morning. Whiskey in his hand. He hadn’t moved. “Where were we going to tell me?” he asked. Camilla dropped her bag. Her hands were shaking. “I was still thinking about it because you were against anything that makes me happy.”“Is that your excuse?” Trent repeated. He stood up. “At 10 PM. In my uncle’s house.” He looked at the time on his phone.“Yes,” Camilla said. She was too tired to lie. “We had dinner. Then he drove me home.”Trent laughed. Once. Ugly. “Dinner. A ride. How nice, you are flirting with my uncle, and you're using work as an excuse. If it was just work, why didn't you tell me?”“Trent, please Don’t,” Camilla said. “Don’t what? You are still married to me, remember?” Trent stepped closer. “ I shouldn't ask? You’ve been working for him for 3 weeks, and you didn’t tell me, Camilla, 3 weeks-.”“That doesn't give you the right to accuse me of something

Luckily for her, when she got home, Trent had not come back. Then she plugged in her phone and saw the message he sent. I am not coming back tonight,” she said, smiling. Good for me.”Three weeks later.Sebastian hosted another dinner because their company signed a big contract. The dinner was successful, and everyone enjoyed it just like the last time; this one was even better. The rumor started at the Everyone was talking about how delicious the meal was.Camilla didn’t hear it until 8 PM, when she was already in Sebastian’s kitchen, reviewing invoices for the estate. Mrs. Leland’s is a business partner with Trent too, so she told him about the dinner just to compliment his wife, not knowing that Trent never knew about his wife.“Mr.Voughn, your wife is so gifted; she is a good cook, she knows how to organize an event properly, and she is very hardworking, please my regards to her.”At home, Camilla, the housekeeper, called _“Is it true you’re working for Mr. Rich now?
