The following day being the weekend, I decided to spend the entire day sleeping off the stress of the week. My shoulders hurt like crazy from typing reports and adjusting documents for several occasions and functions.

“Were you going to sleep all day?” Mia’s voice startled me as I lazily came to the kitchen

The lines of the pillow were drawn clearly on my cheeks. It was a good sleep; I wouldn’t lie about that.

They didn’t tell me they were coming and must have moved downstairs when they saw that I was sleeping.

“You should have given me a notif that you will be coming over,” my loud yawn almost overshadowed the sentence but they managed to hear me

Chloe responded that they had left a text since last night, but I didn’t get it since I just crashed on the bed and fantasized about the crazy stuff that had happened throughout the day.

“Sorry. I didn’t see that.” I turned with the cup of water, only to see them lurking at my back already

The water found its way out of my mouth with the sho

I clicked to add a timestamp note. “We need John to trace any access or file transfers from that port between 2:32 and 2:35 PM. If it lines up, that’s our breach window.”A firm knock echoed across the room.Nicholas tensed. “Come in.”The door opened, and in walked Deborah Mason, head of HR, followed by a woman I hadn’t seen before. She was in her early 40s, sleek navy pantsuit, blunt-cut hair, and a face that had no time for nonsense.“Evening,” Deborah said tersely. “Sorry to interrupt.”Nicholas straightened. “I assume this isn’t a courtesy call.”“It isn’t,” said the new woman. She extended a card. “Marian Cordell. I represent the company’s legal interest in internal misconduct investigations.”I took the card without a word. Cordell turned to Deborah. “Shut the door.”Once it clicked shut again, Cordell stepped forward, glancing at the screens. “We’ve reviewed the preliminary materials you submitted. The footage. The employee access logs and the complaint files.”“And?” Nicholas

Later that night, Nicholas drove her to a hidden rooftop restaurant in the city. There were no signs, no crowd, just a steel elevator that opened into candlelight and skyline.A breeze carried soft jazz as they sat in a secluded booth, wine glasses clinking, plates of grilled lamb and herbed risotto spread between them."This place is unreal," Cassie said, sipping her wine.Nicholas smiled. "I figured after the week you had, you deserved something… quieter.""And here I thought you were taking me up here to bribe me for something.""Only your Netflix password. The one you won’t give up."She laughed, the tension leaving her shoulders for the first time in days."I told Mia and Chloe," she said softly, picking at a piece of bread. He looked up, curious. "Yeah? How’d that go?""They screamed. Mia said she’s saving it for her wedding speech opener. Chloe just kept asking if you have a brother she can latch on to."Nicholas chuckled. "I don’t but I’m flattered.""I told them maybe, just m

The elevator was already halfway down when it stopped on the fifth floor. The doors slid open, and Zara stepped in with a practiced smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes. She wore a crisp blazer in poison green and heels that clacked sharply against the tile as she turned to face the front.I didn’t even look at her. I kept my eyes forward, arms folded across my chest, the silence between us as thick as wet cement.Zara broke it first.“Well, well,” she drawled, “if it isn’t Miss ‘HR Can’t Touch Me.’ How does it feel being untouchable?”My mouth twitched, but I didn’t speak. She continued, her voice falsely sweet. “You know, I actually expected you to crack or cry maybe. I even thought you would run back to your little admin cave, but look at you. Strutting around like you’re royalty now, just because he made some public announcement.”I didn’t blink. "Keep my name out of your filthy mouth, Zara, before I bash your head in. Two-faced witch."I finally turned to face her. “Jealousy is

I arrived at Mia’s apartment by noon the next day. The smell of baked goods and body spray hit me as soon as the door opened.“Finally!” Mia yanked me into a hug. “Took you long enough. Where’s your suitcase?”Just a small bag. It’s just for one night, remember?”Chloe appeared from the kitchen with a wine bottle in hand. “We already started drinking. Pick your glass girl.”“It’s still noon.”“Exactly.”I laughed and followed them in. After snacks, drinks, and a round of trash TV, Chloe turned down the volume and eyed me.“So... we need to talk about your boss or were you thinking the TV show will save you?”I blinked innocently. “What about him?”Mia leaned forward. “Don’t act dumb. Something’s been up. Your text replies are all short whenever you talk about him. Your smile in that last Insta story was entirely different.”Chloe nodded. “Girl, spill it. Did something happen? You spent the night at his place the other day and you are yet to tell us what went down.”I hesitated, then e

    |Cassie|I could feel every eye on me the second I stepped into the office building Monday morning. It wasn’t paranoia but the kind of stillness that came after an explosion. You know the one that had no smoke, but everyone knew something had gone off.I adjusted the strap of my bag and kept my eyes straight ahead, resisting the urge to glance at the front desk, where two interns were already elbowing each other.A week ago, most people in this building barely noticed me outside of my project memos. Now they looked at me like I was wrapped in scandal and dipped in diamond dust. I didn’t slow my pace. If I did, I might lose the nerve, so I just have to keep pressing. The elevator dinged open and I stepped inside. I was there alone, thank God. My fingers hovered over the buttons before I pressed for the eighth floor, where Nicholas’s office was located.Tuesday had changed everything. I hadn’t meant for it to happen like that but then again, who really plans for their boyfriend/CEO to g

Across town, Zara stood quietly in the breakroom, stirring her coffee with lazy interest. She kept revisiting her choices and wondered if she was barking the wrong tree considering how Nicholas was involved in the report.“I hope I didn’t dig my grave. He’s the CEO after all. What if he decides to press charges?” several questions popped up in her head as she stared her coffee continuously. After a few minutes, Ryan joined her, dropping two sugar packets into his own cup and coming closer to stand with her.“Phewww it’s done. We have done our parts,” he whispered. “And the photo? Did you do it the way we agreed on?” he pressed further“It has been sent. I got a hacker friend of mine to scramble the sender ID. They’ll never trace it so we are safe from that end.” She responded, finally taking a sip of her coffee“You are really smart and reliable. I didn’t pick the wrong person to partner with after all.”Zara smirked. “Guess we have similar taste when it comes to business.”Ryan leane
