The Wolf He Caged

♠SYLVARA♠

All my life, I had imagined how I would react when I finally stood before him. I had sworn I’d bare my fangs, sink my claws into his throat, and make him bleed for every memory he’d stolen from me.

But when my gaze locked onto him, my reasoning betrayed me.

Darius Ashfang was no longer the monster of my nightmares, at least not in appearance. He stood in the shadows of the chamber, his black shirt rolled at the sleeves, revealing sinewed arms inked with scars of battles fought and won. His misty gray eyes glowed faintly with his wolf’s power, cold and predatory, and yet… arrestingly beautiful.

When had he grown even more dangerously gorgeous?

“Careful, little wolf,” his voice rasped, a dark baritone that seemed to curl into my very bones. “Keep staring at me like that, and you’ll send signals you don’t mean to.”

The mocking gleam in his eyes jolted me back to reality.

He was not just a man. He was a monster. My sworn enemy. The wolf who had torn my parents from this world and left me an orphan.

“Darius Ashfang,” I hissed, my lips trembling with fury as his name left them.

He smirked, fangs flashing in the low light. “The one and only. In flesh and blood.”

My chest rose sharply, anger burning hotter than fire. How dare he stand there, proud, breathing, unscathed, when my parents’ ashes still haunted me?

“Why bring me here?” I snarled, scanning the room for a weapon. My gaze landed on a heavy stone vase. My fingers itched.

“I heard about your little quest,” he said casually, like we were discussing the weather. “You’ve been whispering vengeance to the wind. Hunting me. Training for me.” His gray eyes glinted, amused. “I thought it would be more entertaining if we skipped the chase.”

My nose flared. “Entertaining? Do you know why I hunt you?”

“To kill me.” His grin widened, cruel and knowing. “And you truly think that’s possible? Even your uncle, with all his alliances and failing pack, wouldn’t dare raise his claws against me. What chance do you have?”

A growl ripped from my throat. “I’ll make you suffer, Darius Ashfang. I’ll make you howl in agony the way my parents did!”

I seized the vase and swung with all my strength. He dodged with infuriating ease, moving with the grace of a predator.

“Really?” His chuckle was dark, feral. “You think I'll break the pottery? You’ll have to do better than that, little wolf.”

His scent, pine, smoke, and steel flooded my senses as he blurred forward. Before I could shift, his arm locked around me, pulling me flush against the solid wall of his chest.

“Let me go, you monster!” I roared, thrashing, but his hold was unyielding, iron-hard.

“Don’t stress yourself, little wolf,” he murmured, his lips brushing my ear, his voice a dangerous purr.

He tossed me onto the bed, pinning me beneath his weight, his gray eyes burning with both amusement and warning.

“Playtime’s over,” he said, his claws lightly grazing my wrist as he held me down.

“Get off me!” I snarled, writhing, my wolf clawing at my insides to be let out. But every shift of my body only made me too aware of his, pressing down, solid and immovable.

His lips curved. “Careful. Every move has a consequence.” His voice lowered to a dangerous whisper. “And I promise, I will enjoy the consequences.”

“You bastard!” My fangs ached, snapping for his throat, but his scent, iron, pine, danger swallowed my senses until my wolf whimpered in betrayal.

He leaned close, fangs grazing the edge of my ear. “Naughty. But if you bite, little wolf, you’d better be prepared to be bitten back.”

Rage boiled in me, but before he could press further, a knock came at the door.

“Alpha, Don Fenrik has arrived,” a voice called from outside.

Darius’s gaze lingered on me a moment longer, his smirk deepening, before he released me and stood.

“Your people are here for you,” he drawled, brushing invisible dust from his shirt. As he turned to leave, he gave me one last taunting touch, a sharp smack against my hip.

I gasped, fury scorching my veins. “Motherfucker!”

He glanced back, eyes glinting with wicked humor. “Mm. I like that mouth. I’ll enjoy hearing it scream something else one day.”

With that, he was gone.

I sat up instantly, adjusting my clothes, fury and disgust clawing through me. My uncle’s presence in this place didn’t comfort me. It only reminded me how trapped I truly was.

But if I couldn’t escape… I could kill.

I touched the dagger hidden against my thigh, its silver edge burning faintly against my skin.

“If Darius Ashfang thinks he’s the hunter here, he’s dead wrong,” I whispered coldly. “This time, the wolf he caged will tear him apart.”

♠ SYLVARA ♠The sun shone brightly over my beautiful garden, casting a warm glow on the neatly trimmed flowers and tall hedges that surrounded the estate. Cool air brushed against my skin, carrying the scent of blooming roses as I stood there, enjoying the pleasant view before me. The moment felt calm, almost deceptively peaceful, as though nothing in the world could disrupt it.But peace had never lasted long in my life.I hated the fact that Lyanna followed Darius to work. The thought alone irritated me more than I cared to admit. Still, I didn’t have a choice. I trusted him, regardless of that bitch’s sneaky attitude and the way she always looked at him like she was entitled to his attention. Even so, the bitterness curled inside my chest, refusing to settle.“The weather is perfect for a picnic!” I giggled softly to myself, imagining going somewhere far away with Darius, just the two of us. Somewhere quiet. Somewhere peaceful. Even though I knew it might not be possible. Alphas do

LYANNAThe drive to the office was painfully quiet.Too quiet. The kind of silence that pressed against my ears and crawled under my skin. I sat beside him, staring straight ahead while the city slid past the tinted windows in blurred colors. I tried to lighten the mood...tried to talk, to tease, to provoke a reaction...but he barely responded.A nod.A faint smile.Nothing more.It pissed me off.Normally, he would scold me, glare at me, or at least sigh like I was a nuisance. This cold indifference felt worse. It felt deliberate. But that didn’t mean I would give up.Not today.I adjusted my posture subtly, letting my dress ride up just a little as I crossed my legs. I had planned this. Thought it through carefully. I would make sure he wouldn’t be able to ignore me once we entered the office.I had come prepared. The car finally stopped.“Good morning, Alpha,” the security men greeted as we stepped out.Their voices echoed sharply, breaking the silence. I waited...expected...him to

♠ SYLVARA ♠ “Sylvara! ” He called my name angrily, yet gently.“What is it?” I hissed, refusing to look at him. “Don't be stubborn, huh?” He tried to pull me towards him, but I didn't flinch. Until he carried me, shoving me on his lap. “Darius, we are outside; let me go,” I said, looking around to see if anyone was looking, but the street was silent; one could mistake it for a ghost town. “I don't care. Why were you acting like that?”“I want some music, that's all.” I said, unaware of how I was seated. “Okay then, I will let you enjoy some music.” He whispered, biting my earlobe. “Stop it.” I tried to get off his laps but it was too late.“Relax, Luna.” His hand was already in my blouse. Circling my nipple with his fingertips. Pinching them softly before squeezing them between his two fingers like he was trying to get some juice from them.“Dar…” I released a soft moan to try to caution him. “Tell me you don't want here,” he,” he whispered, grazing my tits with his nails. After f

♠SYLVARA♠ Back to the present.... This… this wasn’t my room. I blinked rapidly, my vision hazy as the unfamiliar ceiling swayed above me. Darius’ mansion looked nothing like this. Nothing at all. Cold panic twisted in my stomach. “What…” My voice broke before I could finish. The moment the realization hit, tears burst free and streamed hot down my cheeks. I’ve been raped? The thought tore through me like a knife. My whole body throbbed..... sharp, burning aches in places that made me feel sick. My bones felt strained, like I’d fought… or worse, like I had responded to something I didn’t remember. I felt like I’d betrayed myself.... betrayed my body and everything I’d promised. Once I discovered Darius was my mate, I’d vowed to keep myself untouched, to wait for him alone. How could I… why would my body react? How could I feel that stinging soreness and see those white stains on my skin? Those marks. Those reminders. I slapped myself mentally as if I could punch the memory back i

LYANNA It was already midnight. The mansion was cloaked in silence, but my mind refused to rest. Darius still hadn’t come home.“What’s wrong with him? ” I muttered under my breath, pacing the length of my bedroom. My fingers tightened around my phone as I dialed his number for what felt like the hundredth time, only to hear it ring endlessly. No answer.I bit my lip, irritation flaring. Finally, I called Lycus. He picked up after a few seconds that felt like minutes.“Where is Darius? ” I demanded, skipping any greeting.“Is that your idea of saying hello? ”Lycus hissed on the other end, his tone dripping with sarcasm.I exhaled sharply. “Sorry, Lycus. I’m just… worried. I called his number, but he isn’t picking up. Are you two okay? ”“Nothing’s wrong with the Alpha,” he replied lazily, though something in his voice sounded off. “So stop worrying that little head of yours and go to sleep.”Before I could say another word, the line went dead.I stood there, staring at the phone, my

♣DARIUS♣“What's going on here?!” Their leader came in, and they were able to regain their confidence. The room was thick with their arrogance, their smirks, and their hands on weapons they didn’t have the balls to use first. I stepped into that den of jackals not as a man... but as judgment. My fists were clenched, but not from fear. It was the restraint... barely leashed, barely sane.My voice was calm. That kind of calm that only comes before the storm. "You made a mistake," I said, and they laughed. Laughed. That’s when it snapped. The anger tore through me like a gunshot in a church... loud, holy, and final. I didn't see their faces after that. Only targets. Obstacles. The distance between her and me.Every punch I threw was a message. Every shot was a signature. I wasn't fighting to win. I was erasing. Cleaning the filth that thought they could take what was mine.By the time I reached her, my knuckles were raw and warm, my heart a war drum still pounding for her. She looked up
