She was broke, desperate, her sister dying in a coma, when she rode a stranger in a private bar room until he saw stars and paid her triple. He kept his thin glasses on the whole time she was soaked and shaking on top of him. A week later that same man became her boss. Now he owns her desk by day and spreads her thighs every night, making her drip for the only cock that ever ruined her properly. Her cheating ex and backstabbing best friend work down the hall. Loan sharks still hunt her. Old ghosts claw at the door. She swore no man would ever buy her dignity again...yet every time he buries himself deep and growls her name she comes harder, wetter, more his. And the night she finally learns why he never took those glasses off… is the night everything she thinks she knows about him shatters.

Chapter 1

Chapter 1 – The Price Of Breathing.

Elise sat in the hard plastic chair beside the hospital bed and stared at her sister’s face. Lily’s eyes stayed closed. The machines beeped in a slow, steady rhythm that never changed. Elise reached out and took Lily’s hand. The skin felt cool and too still.

A nurse walked in with a clipboard.

“Any change?” Elise asked.

The nurse checked the monitors and shook her head. “Not today. Vitals are the same. The doctor wants to talk about the next payment before the end of the week.”

Elise’s stomach tightened. “I already paid what I could last month.”

“I know. But the balance is still climbing. Surgery consult is on hold until the account is current.” The nurse gave her a look that mixed pity with tiredness. “I’m sorry. I have to tell you these things.”

Elise nodded and waited until the nurse left. She kept holding Lily’s hand.

“I’m still here,” she said quietly. “I’m not going anywhere.”

Her phone buzzed in her pocket. She pulled it out. Unknown number. She almost ignored it, then answered anyway.

“Elizabeth Hart?” The voice was low and rough.

“Who is this?”

“You know who this is. Vince wants his money. The full amount. Interest included. You’ve been ducking us for weeks.”

Elise stood up and walked to the corner of the room so her voice wouldn’t reach the bed. “I told your people I need more time. My sister is in the hospital. Everything I have goes to her.”

“Not our problem. You borrowed. You signed. Now you pay. Friday. All of it. Or we start collecting in other ways.”

“I don’t have it yet.”

“Then find it. Sell something. Sell yourself if you have to. We don’t care how. Friday, or we visit the hospital ourselves. Clear?”

The line went dead.

Elise’s hands shook as she put the phone away. She sat back down and stared at Lily again. The machines kept beeping like nothing had changed.

A hospital administrator knocked and stepped in without waiting. She held a folded paper.

“Ms. Hart? This is the updated statement. The balance is due before we can schedule the next specialist consult. I need you to sign that you received it.”

Elise took the paper. The number at the bottom made her vision blur for a second. She signed where the woman pointed. The administrator left without another word.

Elise folded the paper and shoved it into her bag. Her phone buzzed again. This time it was a text from the landlord.

Final notice. Rent is thirty days overdue. Eviction process starts tomorrow morning if payment is not received in full by 9 a.m. No more extensions.

She read it twice. Then she locked the screen and set the phone face down on her lap.

Three things in one afternoon. The loan shark. The hospital bill. The eviction. All of them landing at once like they had planned it together.

Elise leaned forward and rested her elbows on her knees. She looked at Lily’s still face and spoke in a low voice.

“I don’t know how to fix this. I lost the job. No one will hire me with that mark on my record. Mom is gone. Dad is gone. It’s just us.”

Lily’s chest rose and fell under the thin blanket. No answer came.

Elise swallowed hard. “I promised you I would keep you safe. I meant it. I still mean it.”

She stayed like that for a long time. The light outside the window shifted. Nurses changed shifts. Someone wheeled a cart past the door. Elise didn’t move.

When the evening nurse came in to check the IV, Elise stood up.

“Is the doctor still here?” she asked.

“Dr. Patel already left. He’ll be back in the morning. Do you need something?”

“No. Just… tell him I’ll have an update on the payment soon.”

The nurse nodded and left.

Elise walked to the window. She pressed her forehead against the cool glass and closed her eyes for a second. The city lights blurred below.

“I won’t let them take you too,” she whispered.

She opened her eyes. Down on the street a black car sat at the curb with its engine running. The driver’s window was cracked. A man in a dark jacket sat behind the wheel and looked straight up at her floor.

Elise’s breath caught. She stepped back from the glass, heart slamming against her ribs. The car didn’t move. The man didn’t look away.

Her phone buzzed one more time on the chair. She didn’t pick it up. She already knew who it was.
