Nathan’s POVThe headline reads ‘Latest and hottest couple in town storms billionaire Tony’s birthday in grand style.’Accompanying that irritating headline are several pictures, as well as videos of Diane and me looking all loved up and cozy together, like we're the most loving couple in the world. The pictures come as a rude shock to me, because I didn’t realize that she and I were that close to each other at any point during the previous night at the party. In fact, in one of them, it appears as though Diane and I are kissing each other.“What the hell is wrong with these reporters? Those pictures have clearly been doctored to create an agenda. I’m going to have them sued.” I fume.“I don't think the pictures were doctored. Instead, I think they must have been taken from a certain angle to make them look that way. Anyway, don’t bother yourself about those pesky reporters. It’s just pictures, and as usual, the whole excitement is going to die down before you can say ‘Jack Robinson.’
Nathan’s POVSinging … there’s so much bad singing going on, that worsens the splitting headache that I currently have. Even before I open my eyes, I know already that something isn’t right. The sun is shining into the room through a slit in the blinds, which means I've overslept.Shit! I’m going to be late for work, and I need to complete some tasks before Lucy and I leave for the business trip that she’s going on with me, so I need all the time I can get before then.Yawning, I climb out of bed in haste, but regret that sudden move when a new bolt of pain shoots across my temple. I grit my teeth and wait for it to subside, then I check the time.Crap! It’s almost one in the afternoon! How on earth did I allow myself to sleep for so long? My bed sheet is all tangled, and my bed looks as though a serious fight took place on it.Disjointed images from the previous evening, of me sitting outside with Diane, and later discussing business with someone, flash across my brain as I quickly b
Diane’s POVNow that I’ve succeeded in spiking Nathan’s drink without anyone noticing, it’s a race against time. It’s only a matter of time before he starts to feel the effects of the drugs, and I don’t even know what the symptoms are going to be exactly.I do know one thing, and that is that he’s supposed to feel horny and then sleepy … in that order.Unfortunately for me, however, the man I met talking to him has refused to leave, and is currently drawing him into a long talk about business.“Nathan, I think you should postpone this discussion until later. It’s kind of rude to discuss business at an event like this. There’s always another time, and better settings for that.” I intrude at one point, because it’s getting annoying just sitting there like a damn figurehead while they talk.“I’m sorry, ma’am, but this is important. I don’t want to lose this opportunity. I promise I’ll be as brief as possible. The man tells me, his tone apologetic, but an apology isn’t what I want right
Diane’s POVTonight is the night I've been waiting for. I have what I've come to term 'my tool' sitting in my purse right now.Even though outwardly, I look calm, inwardly, I am actually nervous, which is something that rarely ever happens, and my palms are sweaty. The breeze out here is refreshing, and it helps to calm my worn nerves a little. I take a moment to breathe in deeply, savoring it.Nathan and I find an empty bench under a tree to sit on, away from all the noise coming from the mansion.I rest my head against his shoulder, heaving a heavy sigh. While he is too polite to move away, I can sense that he is very uncomfortable with this position, so I raise my head and shift a little away from him.“Do you still think about him?” I ask, breaking the silence after some time has passed. There’s no need to elaborate on who I'm talking about. We both know who it is, and I’m mentioning him to set the pace for my plan B, just in case my plan A fails. While I no longer have a deadlin
Diane’s POVThis party has to be the most boring thing I’ve ever attended in my entire life. It’s filled with senile old farts, who keep leering at me like they have never seen a beautiful woman in their lives. I've actually had sex with a number of them, and I make sure to avoid those ones as much as I can. The few younger people who are there all avoid me like a plague, even though I grew up with most of them.I wonder what they would have to think about me if they find out the truth about my family … the truth that we’ve managed to keep firmly under wraps in the one month plus since I found out my dad had gone bankrupt and is even in debt.It is a wonder that the media hasn’t got wind of this yet, although come to think of it, every single one of our former staff were illegal people, who know very well that if they don’t keep their damn mouths shut, they will be planting their feet on the soil of their home countries in the blink of an eye.“H … he … hello, Diane. It’s b … been a
Nathan’s POV“You’ve been avoiding me all evening, Nathan. Is that any way to treat a good friend?” Lucas asks me, his eyes twinkling.“I actually have indeed. I wanted some peace and quiet, and since you like to talk my ear off like a fishwife, I knew I won't find that peace and quiet in your company.” I reply. At my words, the group of women burst into high-pitched laughter that sends several displeased glances our way, and causes me to feel a little embarrassed. I know for sure that what I said wasn’t that funny.“Oh, well. I’m not offended, at least, not any more. I would like to introduce you to my new friends. Dear friends, this grumpy gentleman is none other than the legendary Nathan Adams, who is the humble CEO of the Adams holdings and conglomerate. I’m sure you must have heard of him.”I watch as the girls’ eyes widen in shock, and renewed interest enters the eyes of the two who were batting their lashes at me earlier. The other three, who previously only had eyes for Lucas,
Nathan’s POVThere’s no denying it any longer. I’m attracted to Lucy, and the more I try to stop myself from feeling this way, the more I’m attracted to her. It’s even worse now that she has to work under me, while I teach her the ropes of the business. As I noticed before, she's a quick learner, and she’s also a natural. Also, she genuinely seems to enjoy the job. It doesn’t seem like she's doing it just to please her parents, which is really great.I'm happy for her parents. Their son, Asher, is a hard worker, quite alright, but he doesn't seem remotely interested in taking over his father’s company, so it is a good thing that Lucy is interested. As I finish eating my meal and my housekeeper comes in to clear the table, my phone rings. It is Lucas who’s calling.“Hello?” I say into the phone.“Hey, man. I hope you’re almost ready.” Lucas says. I have zero clue what he’s talking about.“Ready? Ready for what?”“What do you mean ready for what? I’m talking about Mr. Tony’s birthday pa
“Good morning honey, I got you a gift to celebrate your new promotion.” My mom’s voice comes from my room doorway. It’s Monday, the day I'm going to resume working directly under Nathan. Checking the time on my phone, I see that I still have about twelve minutes before my alarm goes off, but I sit up in bed and stretch luxuriously.“Good morning, Mom.”“I didn’t know that you were still asleep; if not, I would have just dropped it on your chair and left you to sleep.”“It's okay. My alarm will soon go off, anyway. Thank you so much for the gift. You really didn’t have to. You've done more than enough for me already.”“Nonsense! It’s my way of making up for lost time. I enjoy spoiling you with gifts, as I should have done all those lost years. But hey, we said we’ll stop dwelling on the past and only think of the present and future going forward, so let’s do just that.” She finishes, handing me a bag containing the gifts.Inside the bag is a beautiful black tailored blazer of high qual
Lucy’s POVAmanda spends several weeks in the hospital because she keeps developing severe complications, so much so that I begin to fear that I’d lose her to the cold hands of death. My parents are so helpful during this period. They treat her as though she were their own daughter, make sure that she has the best doctors and treatments, and visit her whenever they can, all of which means a lot to me.Also, despite the fact that I tell them that I can handle the hospital bills after they ask me about it, they go ahead to offset it before I can get a chance to do so, and tell me that it’s the least they could do for both Amanda and I.I spend every weekend at Amanda’s bedside, to make up for when I can't be there during the weekdays, since I'm always busy with work. It’s the least that I can do, seeing as she has no one else.In the span of time she’s been at the hospital, she hasn’t had a single visitor, and I can't imagine how lonely that must feel. Thus, I try my best to make sure t
