Lucy’s POV

My birth mother and I hug each other for what feels like an eternity, as we shed tears of joy. I don’t ever want to let go of her, and from how tightly she’s holding me, I can tell that the feeling is mutual.

Suddenly, I feel a hand on my shoulder, and so I pull away from my mother, at the same time that she pulls away from me. The hand belongs to my father, who is trying to comfort us both.

He smiles warmly at me, and I return the smile and happily accept the hug he gives me.

“I thought that it is a good idea to step in because left to your mother, she’ll stay here hugging you for a week at the very least.” He jokes, and my mother laughs.

I’m glad he called her my mother, because I’ve been wondering if they’d want me to refer to them that way, and this answers my question. He is a very handsome man, and I have his eyes.

“Oh, stop it, honey.” My mother says, giggling a little and swatting him playfully on the arm.

My eyes well up with tears instantly again. It is very clea

  • Goodbye Ex, Go to Hell!   Excruciating pain

“Fuck! You fucking bitch!” Michael screamed in shock and anger, while I dragged the stick from his neck and went for him again. My blood ran cold when I realized that he was far from being incapacitated. Also, my heavily pregnant body was making it a little difficult for me to move as agilely as I wanted.Adrenaline was pumping through my veins because I knew that this was it. I had to succeed and get away from him, or I was as good as dead, so I wasn’t about to give up, not when my life and that of my unborn child depended on what happened next.I lunged at him with the stick again, but as I did so, I saw to my horror that the stick's pointed end had broken off when I first stabbed him.The broken part of the stick was embedded in his neck, which explained why he wasn’t bleeding as much as he should have.I refused to give up, though, and continued to hold the stick in front of me like a weapon, even though I had the sinking feeling that I was well and truly cooked. For one thing, Mi

  • Goodbye Ex, Go to Hell!   Decision making

The fact that I had spent such a long time in captivity, yet no one had found me, was both crazy and scary in equal measure. I couldn't stop wondering how Michael managed to explain away my absence to my coworkers and even Lucy, or if anyone even suspected him of having a hand in it.The country was notorious for several kidnappings, especially those of foreigners, so it wouldn't have been far-fetched to think that people who knew me would chalk up my sudden disappearance to being kidnapped by one of the many notorious gang groups that terrorised the area.I wondered most especially if Lucy had any inkling that anything was amiss. Due to the distance between us, our very different schedules, and our different time zones, we could only talk on the phone about once a month. However, we sent messages to each other at least weekly, or at worst, biweekly. It would be easy for Michael to fake being me by sending messages to her to convince her that I was fine, and pretend that I was the on

  • Goodbye Ex, Go to Hell!   Well secured

Amanda’s POVThe new place was absolutely beautiful, like Michael told me it would be. He moved me there one night, about five days after he first told me about it. He also spent that night with me, and the next morning, he allowed me to go around the place to check it out.To my utter dismay, it was well-gated and had super-high walls with barbed wire that prevented escape. Even if I somehow managed to climb up the fence, dropping down on the other side was going to be a suicide mission because of the far drop to the ground.Of course, Michael would have taken precautions to make sure that I wouldn't escape. All the same, I refused to give up hope, and I intended to escape one way or the other. As though he knew what I was thinking, Michael spoke at that instant.“Don’t even think about escaping because …”“What? Why would I think about that? I’m grateful that you brought me here and won't tie me up any longer. This cabin is very spacious and is just like a regular house. You even g

  • Goodbye Ex, Go to Hell!   The bombshell

At first, I had great hopes that as time went by, Michael was going to come to his senses and have a change of heart about this madness of keeping me locked up in the woods like some deranged animal. However, as the hours turned into days, and the days into weeks, it became crystal clear that nothing of the sort was going to happen, and this horror was now my reality. In the first few days after he brought me here and tied me up, he visited me every evening, and I used to be so irritated to see him, because I was really mad at him. However, after two weeks had passed, he reduced his visits to once every two days. By this time, I had suffered from so much isolation that I began to crave any human presence at all, even if it was his own.I had nothing to while away the time with, so I was practically going crazy with boredom. After a lot of persuasion, he brought me two novels which I read over and over again, immersing myself in the world of the characters to escape from my reality.I

  • Goodbye Ex, Go to Hell!   No reasoning with crazy

Amanda’s POVMichael had untied my hands earlier so that I could use my good hand to eat, but now, he ties them back, despite my repeated pleas for him not to do that.“I wouldn’t have tied back your hands, but you have shown time and again that you're not to be trusted. I don’t want you tackling me to the ground or something a…” He begins to explain, but I interrupt him.“Tackling you to the ground with my broken arm?”“Hey, don’t be a smartass, okay? I already told you I’m going to fix the arm for you. I brought splints and all of that.” He complains. Then he finishes tying up my hands while ignoring my screams of agony, after which he moves back and examines his work in satisfaction. “I’m sorry you're in so much pain, but I've assessed your injuries, and I think you're lucky. Your arm isn't broken. It’s just your shoulder that’s dislocated. I’ll get my tools and fix it before you can say 'Jack Robinson.' Once I do that, you’ll feel a lot of relief, I promise.” Michael tells me.I'

  • Goodbye Ex, Go to Hell!   Crazy

Amanda’s POVI’ve avoided talking about what happened to me abroad for this long because of how much it hurts just talking about it, but Lucy is right. She has a right to know, as do her parents, after all they have done for me ever since I appeared here out of the blue. So, despite how difficult it is for me to talk about it and how much I want to forget all about it, I have no choice but to tell Lucy all about it.Within seconds of opening my mouth to speak, it feels like I’ve been transported back in time to that horrible night, and all the awful days and nights that followed. My whole body feels like it’s on fire as I regain consciousness, and for a moment, I am disoriented, but only for a moment. The pain coursing through my entire body brings clarity upon me in seconds, and I groan and struggle to get into a sitting position, but for some reason, I can’t do that.It doesn’t take long for me to figure out that I can’t get into a sitting position because I’ve been tied up like an
