Chapter 1

Author: Man D
Freya POV

"I don't understand." Halle said, still reeling from the shock.

After all, my previous interactions with her had been marked by secret hostility.

Her over-familiarity with Jasper always set my teeth on edge.

Her possessiveness was written all over her face, impossible to miss.

But today, I stirred my coffee softly and spoke, calm and measured.

"Help me dissolve the mate bond, and I'll leave. You're the only person who can make him do it."

Halle flipped through the document again, eyes narrowing with suspicion.

"How do I know this isn't a trick?"

I smiled. "You've read the document. There's nothing false in it. Once Jasper signs and seals it with his blood, I'll be free of the bond."

"And then," I added, leaning forward, "you'll have the most powerful alpha. All the glory. All the wealth. Everything."

Halle went over each clause again, visibly tense.

"There's no agreement between us. What if you change your mind?"

"Once the bond is broken, my mind won't matter. We won't even know each other anymore."

Halle picked up her phone and dialed.

"Jasper? I'm at Aura Brew. Can you pick me up?"

Twenty minutes later, the man who was always too busy for me was standing by her side.

He always smiled at me with a trace of distance.

But with Halle, it was warm and genuine.

"Where have you been today?" he asked her, "Didn't expect a call from here."

Halle shuffled the dissolution document into a stack of photos.

"Do you know how popular you are? Everyone keeps asking me for your signed photos. You know, I can't say no to friends..."

Jasper laughed, taking the pen from her.

"Next time, just forge it. Save yourself the trouble."

"I couldn't!" Halle giggled, fluttering her eyelashes.

"Don't be silly," he said. "It's nothing to worry about."

He signed the papers without even looking.

Halle's smile brightened. She pulled a silk scarf from her bag.

"Jasper, can you help me with this ruby pin? It's stuck."

He glanced at it.

"Throw it away. I'll buy you a new one."

"No, I really like it. You have to help me."

With a sigh, he took the pin, fiddling with it.

Suddenly, his hands froze and he dropped the pin.

"Ah, you pricked your hand. Let me see..." Halle said, grabbing his finger.

She squeezed, and a bead of blood fell onto the document.

A subtle warmth spread across the mark on my collarbone.

"The mark is fading," my wolf murmured.

I nodded, "It'll take three days to disappear completely. Be patient. We'll be free soon."

I needed a little time too, to arrange transportation for our departure.

Slipping out through the side door, I felt a lightness I hadn't known in years.

--

In my last life, I married Jasper as part of a strategic arrangement, a union that was the envy of everyone.

I lived what looked like a fairy tale, but it all ended with me dying a slow, emotional death.

Because in Jasper's heart, there was always a place that belonged to Halle.

They had grown up together, childhood sweethearts everyone thought would eventually marry.

But then, out of nowhere, Halle married a wealthy businessman overseas.

And Jasper accepted the marriage his family arranged and became my husband.

At our grand marking ceremony, he bit down on my collarbone with a tenderness that made me dizzy.

For a moment, I almost believed the happiness was real.

But when the passion faded, I began to see the truth.

His heart had never truly opened to me.

No matter how much I loved him, there was always a distance, an invisible wall I could never break through.

Then Halle returned, Jasper's schedule became packed.

He started missing dinners and canceling our plans more and more often.

His smile appeared more often, but never for me.

Sometimes, when he answered the phone, his eyes would soften with an unmistakable tenderness..

And I realized he could be gentle, he could be happy. Just not with me.

Depression consumed me, hollowed me out day by day.

My body grew weaker until, one sunny morning, with tears still on my face, I simply didn't wake up.

Snapping back to the present, I wiped away the tears and I forced a smile.

This time would be different. I would give them their happy ending and find my own.

Maybe then, We can all be happy.

I dialed a number.

"I need you to do something for me. Name your price."

The call ended just as the screech of tires tore through the air.

I tried to jump out of the way, but the car still clipped me, sending me crashing to the ground.

The driver, pale with panic, rushed me to the hospital. A battery of tests confirmed I only had minor scrapes and bruises.

Relief washed over me, until my eyes landed on one line on the report.

My heart nearly stopped.

I was pregnant!

This time, you won’t get away with this."He dropped to his knees, pulling me into his arms, his breath shaking."Freya, are you hurt? I’m taking you to the hospital right now."Halle’s eyes brimmed with tears. "Jasper, stop lying to yourself. You’ve loved me all along, since ten years ago.""She’s just a distraction you amused yourself with while I was gone.""Come back to me. We can start over. You know it’s me you want."Jasper’s gaze turned to ice."I’ll say this one last time: I never loved you. Not then, not now. And I know exactly what I want. It’s not you."

  • Goodbye, My Mate   Chapter 8

Freya POVJasper left, and his words, "I only love you," echoed in my heart. He was a man of his word, though he was rarely given to sweet talk. Over five years, he had said "I love you" a handful of times at most. I touched my pregnant belly and asked my pup."Sweetheart, are you willing to forgive your father?" My pup rolled around inside me, but I couldn't understand his answer.Hours later, Jasper’s assistant sent me a message:[All negative information has been handled. Please rest easy, Madam.]Attached was a link.I clicked it open and watched Halle on screen, her eyes brimming with tears."For fame and personal gain, I shamelessly used my friendship with Jasper to create a scandal. I have caused severe harm to both Jasper and his wife, and for that, I offer my sincerest apology..."The online world immediately turned on her, criticizing her for her inappropriate boundary-crossing with Jasper, accusing her of coveting my place, and fabricating rumors to damage my public imag

Freya POVTo avoid Jasper’s tracking, I bought a car under a fake name and drove until the sense of freedom was overwhelming.Even the scenery along the road, which I’d seen a million times, looked new and beautiful. I pulled open my collar in the rearview mirror and watched the mark on my collarbone flicker one last time before it vanished. He must have felt it.Recalling my past life, tears streamed down my face. My wolf let out a soft rumble. "We’re free. Why are you still crying?"I smiled through my tears. "These are happy tears."I settled into a small seaside town.No television. No internet. Nothing that could feed me the smallest scrap of news about Jasper. Each day, I let the ocean breeze tangle in my hair, let the sun warm my skin, let books fill the silence. The unhappiness I had carried for years slowly began to lift. The pup in my belly grew stronger every day, occasionally tumbling around, and I’d rub my stomach and talk to him.I thought this peaceful life would co

  • Goodbye, My Mate   Chapter 6

Jasper POVFreya's cheerful voice was gone, leaving a silence in the house that made me restless. I stared at the dressing table, thinking about how just a few days ago, she was sitting there, putting on the new necklace I’d given her. Her eyes, still tear-filled from our argument, asked if she looked beautiful. We had just fought about Halle again, but she still accepted the necklace, her beautiful smile returning soon after, even if it was a little strained.I loved her deeply and had given her a life of endless wealth. We got along perfectly on every topic except for one: Halle. Freya always felt I was too close to Halle, but Halle was my childhood friend. I didn’t think there was anything wrong with our closeness. Besides, Halle wasn’t as strong and optimistic as Freya; she needed more of my care.Every time we fought, I felt a pang of guilt and wanted to apologize, but the words would never come out. Instead, I would give her an expensive piece of jewelry, and when she acc

  • Goodbye, My Mate   Chapter 5

Jasper POVThe front door slammed shut with a deafening thud, like it had struck straight through my chest.Freya hadn’t even looked back. The way she walked out carried the weight of her disappointment. She didn't even try to explain. Could I have been wrong about her?Halle was still crying beside me. We had grown up together, and every time she cried, I would do my best to comfort her. But this time, for some reason, I just felt a little annoyed.I told a maid to get some ointment for the scratches and applied it for her. "Stay home and rest. I’ll head to the office for a while."Halle tugged at my arm, tears still welling in her eyes."Aren't you going to stay with me? I'm so afraid something will happen to the pup..."I pulled my arm free."If you feel unwell, call the butler. He'll take you to the hospital. You'll be fine."But my mind wasn’t with her. All I could see was Freya’s eyes, clouded with hurt. Our marriage might have been an alliance, but over the last five years

  • Goodbye, My Mate   Chapter 4

Freya POVFor two mornings in a row, when I brought breakfast to the table, Halle didn’t make things difficult. She cleaned her plate. Then, glancing around to make sure no one was listening, she let out a smug little laugh."Imagine, being waited on by Mrs. Brolin herself. What an honor."I shrugged. "Thank you for helping out, then. Mrs. Brolin will be you soon enough."As I said it, my phone lit up with a message:[ Everything’s ready.]Two more hours, and I’d finally be free. The tension that had knotted in my chest for three days finally began to loosen. Halle froze, her smile faltering for a beat before she quickly regained her sneer."You really are pathetic. Married to a man like Jasper for five years, and you couldn’t even give him an heir. Is it because you can’t give him one, or because he doesn’t want one with you?"She laid a hand on her own stomach, slow and deliberate, as if I might miss the gesture."Doesn't matter. You’re leaving anyway. My pup will be the one to inh
