Chapter 3

Author: Man D
Freya POV

As a VIP client, Halle’s treatment was swift and smooth.

Seeing the pained expression on her face finally ease, Jasper let out a long breath of relief.

"Freya, this kind of mistake should never happen. Halle is our guest. I hope you’ll be more careful."

He barely bothered to hide his accusation.

My heart ached with a familiar bitterness.

"You really think I did it on purpose?"

He looked at me for a few seconds before giving my cheek a brief, stiff kiss.

"Halle is pregnant. If anything were to happen to her or the pup, we would both feel immense guilt, right? I know you can take good care of her."

After the cold war of my last life, I began to lose myself to depression.

This time, all I wanted was to quietly wait for the moment I could finally leave.

"I will," I replied, though the weight pressing against my chest made it hard to breathe.

The next day, after finishing her meal, Halle offered some feigned compliments.

"Freya, you really are amazing in the kitchen. Not like me. I can’t cook at all, and I’m so picky on top of it."

Jasper’s tone was indulgent.

"What does it matter? Freya will give you the best care. Just relax and stay here."

The tenderness in his eyes was sharp as needles against my skin.

Halle reclined on the sofa with a dramatic sigh.

"Jasper, Pregnancy is unbearable. Everything aches. I don’t know how I’ll get through the next few months."

Jasper’s gaze fell on me.

"Freya, why don't you give her a massage? She's carrying a pup. It's hard on her body."

Something fluttered low in my own belly—I was carrying a pup too.

I had already put in a lot of effort preparing lunch for her, and I was exhausted.

But I still agreed.

"Of course. I’ll go get things ready."

I glanced down at the mark on my collarbone. It had already faded to nearly half its original color.

Two days left.

Lying comfortably on the massage bed, Halle basked in my service.

She had brought her own incense, and the overwhelmingly strong scent of ylang-ylang made my stomach turn.

"Freya, look at you, trying so hard to please Jasper. But all I need is a single word, and he’ll arrange everything for me."

"I’m not trying to please him. I’m just showing respect," I replied softly.

Halle's expression twisted in annoyance.

"Stop with that high and mighty act, like you don’t care about anything. I’m here to take back what belongs to me."

I continued my work, my fingers moving slowly on her shoulders.

"I never intended to fight you for what you want," I said calmly. "You’ve seen the mate-bond dissolution papers yourself."

By the time the massage ended, my legs felt weak. I staggered toward my room, desperate just to collapse into bed.

Jasper stepped out of his study and stopped, his eyes fixed on my face.

"Freya, why are you so pale? Are you feeling sick?"

He reached out to touch my cheek, and my stomach lurched violently.

I pushed him away and ran for the bathroom, vomiting so hard until it felt like my insides had emptied out.

When I stumbled back, Jasper stood there, silent, guilt flickering in his eyes.

Jasper watched me silently, his eyes filled with a flicker of guilt.

""I didn’t know you were unwell. I’m sorry. Let the maids handle things from now on."

"It’s okay. I can manage."

He carried me to bed anyway, pulling the blanket up over me.

Then, suddenly, he caught my hand.

"Freya... are you pregnant?"

My heart stopped.

"No… I’m just tired." I pulled my hand away.

The fleeting hope in his eyes vanished.

"The way you looked just now… it was exactly how Halle acted when she was feeling sick. I just thought…"

I gave a small, weary smile and closed my eyes.

Jasper stood by the bed for a while before finally leaving.

Was he really hoping for a pup?

Would he even care if it were mine?

Freya POVI didn’t even have time to react before I was slammed to the floor.Halle went wild, kicking and clawing at me.The pain ripped through me, and I curled in on myself, arms wrapped protectively around my stomach."Halle, what the hell are you doing?!" Jasper stormed in, shoving her away. She froze, stunned. "What are you doing here, Jasper?"Jasper’s voice was thunder. "Halle, how dare you lay a hand on Freya? This time, you won’t get away with this."He dropped to his knees, pulling me into his arms, his breath shaking."Freya, are you hurt? I’m taking you to the hospital right now."Halle’s eyes brimmed with tears. "Jasper, stop lying to yourself. You’ve loved me all along, since ten years ago.""She’s just a distraction you amused yourself with while I was gone.""Come back to me. We can start over. You know it’s me you want."Jasper’s gaze turned to ice."I’ll say this one last time: I never loved you. Not then, not now. And I know exactly what I want. It’s not you."

  • Goodbye, My Mate   Chapter 8

Freya POVJasper left, and his words, "I only love you," echoed in my heart. He was a man of his word, though he was rarely given to sweet talk. Over five years, he had said "I love you" a handful of times at most. I touched my pregnant belly and asked my pup."Sweetheart, are you willing to forgive your father?" My pup rolled around inside me, but I couldn't understand his answer.Hours later, Jasper’s assistant sent me a message:[All negative information has been handled. Please rest easy, Madam.]Attached was a link.I clicked it open and watched Halle on screen, her eyes brimming with tears."For fame and personal gain, I shamelessly used my friendship with Jasper to create a scandal. I have caused severe harm to both Jasper and his wife, and for that, I offer my sincerest apology..."The online world immediately turned on her, criticizing her for her inappropriate boundary-crossing with Jasper, accusing her of coveting my place, and fabricating rumors to damage my public imag

  • Goodbye, My Mate   Chapter 7

Freya POVTo avoid Jasper’s tracking, I bought a car under a fake name and drove until the sense of freedom was overwhelming.Even the scenery along the road, which I’d seen a million times, looked new and beautiful. I pulled open my collar in the rearview mirror and watched the mark on my collarbone flicker one last time before it vanished. He must have felt it.Recalling my past life, tears streamed down my face. My wolf let out a soft rumble. "We’re free. Why are you still crying?"I smiled through my tears. "These are happy tears."I settled into a small seaside town.No television. No internet. Nothing that could feed me the smallest scrap of news about Jasper. Each day, I let the ocean breeze tangle in my hair, let the sun warm my skin, let books fill the silence. The unhappiness I had carried for years slowly began to lift. The pup in my belly grew stronger every day, occasionally tumbling around, and I’d rub my stomach and talk to him.I thought this peaceful life would co

  • Goodbye, My Mate   Chapter 6

Jasper POVFreya's cheerful voice was gone, leaving a silence in the house that made me restless. I stared at the dressing table, thinking about how just a few days ago, she was sitting there, putting on the new necklace I’d given her. Her eyes, still tear-filled from our argument, asked if she looked beautiful. We had just fought about Halle again, but she still accepted the necklace, her beautiful smile returning soon after, even if it was a little strained.I loved her deeply and had given her a life of endless wealth. We got along perfectly on every topic except for one: Halle. Freya always felt I was too close to Halle, but Halle was my childhood friend. I didn’t think there was anything wrong with our closeness. Besides, Halle wasn’t as strong and optimistic as Freya; she needed more of my care.Every time we fought, I felt a pang of guilt and wanted to apologize, but the words would never come out. Instead, I would give her an expensive piece of jewelry, and when she acc

  • Goodbye, My Mate   Chapter 5

Jasper POVThe front door slammed shut with a deafening thud, like it had struck straight through my chest.Freya hadn’t even looked back. The way she walked out carried the weight of her disappointment. She didn't even try to explain. Could I have been wrong about her?Halle was still crying beside me. We had grown up together, and every time she cried, I would do my best to comfort her. But this time, for some reason, I just felt a little annoyed.I told a maid to get some ointment for the scratches and applied it for her. "Stay home and rest. I’ll head to the office for a while."Halle tugged at my arm, tears still welling in her eyes."Aren't you going to stay with me? I'm so afraid something will happen to the pup..."I pulled my arm free."If you feel unwell, call the butler. He'll take you to the hospital. You'll be fine."But my mind wasn’t with her. All I could see was Freya’s eyes, clouded with hurt. Our marriage might have been an alliance, but over the last five years

  • Goodbye, My Mate   Chapter 4

Freya POVFor two mornings in a row, when I brought breakfast to the table, Halle didn’t make things difficult. She cleaned her plate. Then, glancing around to make sure no one was listening, she let out a smug little laugh."Imagine, being waited on by Mrs. Brolin herself. What an honor."I shrugged. "Thank you for helping out, then. Mrs. Brolin will be you soon enough."As I said it, my phone lit up with a message:[ Everything’s ready.]Two more hours, and I’d finally be free. The tension that had knotted in my chest for three days finally began to loosen. Halle froze, her smile faltering for a beat before she quickly regained her sneer."You really are pathetic. Married to a man like Jasper for five years, and you couldn’t even give him an heir. Is it because you can’t give him one, or because he doesn’t want one with you?"She laid a hand on her own stomach, slow and deliberate, as if I might miss the gesture."Doesn't matter. You’re leaving anyway. My pup will be the one to inh
