If you are having a troublesome time sleeping put some fresh chamomile under your pillow. Branches of chamomile can also be used to ward off bad dreams by weaving them into dream catchers.

In the depths of my subconscious, I find myself in a dream where I am surrounded by concrete pillars. There is a stream of water running through them with a small path. I am standing in a garden I have never seen before. It’s a beautiful oasis filled with trees and plants. It reminds me a little of my garden.

As I begin to explore my surroundings there is a sense of familiarity, almost as if I have been here before.

The flames on the pillars around me roar to life, crackling and swirling with a wild intensity. The flames growing more intense with every second. The fire is spreading through the trees, and the once lush garden is now engulfed in hot flames that burn all around me. Oddly, the heat has no effect on me.

The angry flames consume a patch of once luscious nightingale, and it quickly moves to the lavender. The smell of burning lavender coats my nostrils as I begin to panic. How am I going to get out of here?

Suddenly rain starts to fall. The flaming garden around me is filled with life by the water falling from the sky.

I look to my left and notice a large oak tree with the biggest leaves I have ever seen. It looks exactly like the oak tree on our property. I feel a strange pull towards it almost like this tree knows who I am.

Before I have a chance to get to the tree, I am awoken with a startle, my heart pounding. I am drenched in sweat.

Most dreams have meanings behind them. But what could this dream have meant?

I can see the sun beaming through my curtains, it’s morning. It looks bright and hot, so I get out of bed.

The memory of the dream lingers as I begin to get ready for the day, the vivid images of fire stick in my mind. I cannot help but wonder if the dream is a reflection of what is to come.

Many witches will have dreams of the future, but the future is not constant and it’s always changing.

I shower quickly and put on a purple sundress with my favourite black sneakers.

After the dream I had last night, I have a powerful sense to visit my garden. The garden is a well-kept secret on our property.

There are two ways to get to the garden. The fastest way is through an underground tunnel found under a trap door in the tool shed beside my house.

The second way, my favourite, is path through the forest. On nice days I like to enjoy the greenery on the path. Since today is already promising to be a beautiful day, I take the path behind my cottage.

The path in the forest is lined with quartz protection crystals and it is completely hidden and the only way to find the entrance to the path is behind my cottage between two evergreen trees; it is not easy to spot because the entrance is almost completely overgrown.

I begin walking down the narrow grassy path following the trail, listening the sounds of nature around me.

The garden is enclosed in a cave that opens up into a large cavern. The top of the cave was blasted away many years ago letting the sunshine in.

This garden was originally a place where my family held ancient rituals. There is a large stone in the centre that lights up when there is a full moon. The stone holds ancient magic, that we have yet to completely understand.

We use crystals which contain heavy magic to keep the entrance to the garden hidden. If someone who is not supposed to see it wanders nearby, they will only see the tall evergreen trees surrounding the entrance. Only our family and other immensely powerful witches can see past our crystal-guards.

This garden holds a remarkably diverse variety of plants, animals and insects. Which we use to make potions.

We help a lot of magical families with the plants we grow.

We used to hide there from my mother on Sundays. My dad always used to joke the closer you were to the garden the farther you were away from house chores.

My father had an ironic power for living on an orchard. He was pyrokinetic which means he could control fire. Fire and trees usually do not mix, but my dad had a gentle spirit and never hurt a fly - or a tree.

He was also a powerful potions master and despite being flammable he built our garden, with the help of me of course.

This place is special and we owe it all to my dad, Randy. Even though he is no longer with us I plan to carry on his legacy.

He taught me everything he knew about ingredients and making potions. Although, I am not nearly as good as him, I do my best and luckily, he wrote everything he learnt in a book that he left to me.

He is also responsible for many of the potion recipes we have now like the protection potion which is rosemary, lavender, bay leaves, mugwort, and garlic. We use this potion on our enchanted crystals.

I have done a lot of experimenting of my own throughout the years and one of my specialty potions is a focus potion which is rosemary, chamomile, coffee, sage and violet. It helped me when I was in high school.

Most witches get their powers when they are incredibly young. Sometimes as young as six months old. It is not easy for babies or toddlers to control themselves. I’m sure you can imagine how catastrophic that could be.

My dad being pyrokinetic, his mother had to create a very powerful binding potion to help control my dads' powers after he set the house on fire when he was nine months old during a tantrum.

This was the first time he showed any signs of his powers, and they were already powerful enough to ignite the living room in flames. His powers were bound until he was about five years old and he was able to control his emotions better.

Breaking my train of thought a shaggy black and white Border Collie with one blue and one brown eye runs up to me and drops a large leafy branch in front of me on the ground. I look up and I surprised I see Charles, the mysterious man from the day before, up ahead down the rocky path.

I’m so nervous, it feels like this are butterflies flying in my stomach. I have never been in a relationship serious enough to meet someone’s parents. The house his parents live in is beautiful and also quite big. It has blue paneling with a wrap around porch. His mother is waiting for us when we arrive on the porch. “You’re just in time; dinner will be ready in 5 minutes” she calls out to us. When we get inside the smell of garlic hits me. “Hello” I say holding out my hand. “Hello, you must be Paige. My name is Holly; it is so nice to finally meet you” she said holding her arms out for a hug. I hugged her and said “you have such a beautiful home” “Thank you, I designed it myself” she answers. “Charles’ dad is in a business call, but he should be joining us shortly.” “Come into the

During a drought you can ask the ferns to summon the rain. The next day I head into town to visit the Meaford public library to do some research. I drive through town, as usual, it doesn’t look like anything new has happened. The quiet town life is one of the reasons why my family stays here. The library is in the downtown core, which is usually filed with life. People are sitting on benches and walking their dogs. The restaurants are busy with people getting their coffees for work. I pull into the parking lot and head towards the old building. The large wood doors were hand carved, and I always appreciate their beauty. I look around the room filled with rows of many books; old and new. I am looking for the librarian, her name is Amelia, she had been a very close family friend for years. She is also a very powerful witch. Amelia has the power of telekinesis, which means she can move things with her mind. She should be able to show me newspaper articles that are not available

Crushing Clove enhances psychic abilities, sprinkle some over a crystal ball to help see the futureOn Sundays I usually spend the morning walking through the trees then the afternoon helping Evee at the bakery. I call Evee to let her know I will not be coming by this afternoon. She answers on the second ring.“Hello” Evee said. “Hey, I am going to stay home today” I tell her. “Oh, is Charles with you?” She asks. She sounded a little upset. “Yes, he is, he spent the night” I say. “Okay well have fun” she said then ends the call abruptly. I wonder if she is jealous. I poke my head in the bedroom and see Charles is still fast asleep. I head outside to see the aftermath from last night. The trees around my house have almost doubled in size. It’s amazing to see trees this large; they make me feel so insignificant. I try to undo my magic by calming my mind and try to bring the trees back to their original size but it won’t work. Strange, this is the first time I am not abl

To protect against thieves, hang rose Mary in your windows and doorways. We walk over to the beach, and we bring the kayaks down to the water. There’s a small storage box outside with paddles and life jackets inside. We buckle up our jackets and head into the water. It’s a calm evening, the water is crystal clear; our paddles are creating ripples in the water as we tread along. We stay close to the shore because it will be dark soon and the open water is no place to be in the dark. We paddle past a long mountain side with a small cavern. The cavern holds many of my families' ancient artifacts. I have never been there, but maybe one day. “I feel like meeting you has been a dream” Charles said. Looking at him I can see the last couple of days have been hard on him and he is handling it incredibly well considering. Charles catches me looking at him. “What are you thinking about?” he asks. I love when he asks me that. “I feel like I’ve known you my life” I say to him. R

Witches use dandelions to enhance psychic abilities. Dandelions are also great for creams to keep people looking youthful. I am making us bacon, eggs, and French toast for breakfast. I dip the bread in some eggs in batter with cinnamon and throw it in the frying pan. “So, what happened with your parents yesterday” I finally ask. I grab two plates and start adding the food. “They didn’t tell me much more than we already knew. I was adopted when I was 8 months old on December 15, 2001, because my parents died in a car accident. The adoption took place at an adoption agency close by.” He explains.“Anything else?” I ask.“That’s all they were able to tell me.” He said. I have a suspicion that they are leaving something out. It’s not a lot of information but I might be able to work with that date and see the deaths of people who had a small child in the area. “The local library in town keeps records of all the newspapers in the area. But the library isn’t open until Monday.”

People believe dill can protect against illness and hostile spirits. It can also balance the heart and mind. We head down the tunnel and I can tell Charles is curious by the crystals lighting up the walls. “They are magic crystals charged by the sun” I told him. He reached up to touch one and as soon as he touched the crystal it lights up brighter. We continued walking I can hear the dirt path crunching under our feet. “This could be the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen” he says as we enter the garden. I take my shoes off and start walking in the grass. I can see the bright moonlight up above. Tonight is a half-moon. We walk over to the storage shed with the dolly of boxes. The shed is very organized; curtesy of me. I have a shelf with drawers on the right side for ingredients. Everything is sorted by ingredient type. On the left side I have a shelf with boxes for all the crystals. It does not take us long to organize the new stuff my uncle brought. Once everything is pu
