During a drought you can ask the ferns to summon the rain. The next day I head into town to visit the Meaford public library to do some research. I drive through town, as usual, it doesn’t look like anything new has happened. The quiet town life is one of the reasons why my family stays here. To protect against thieves, hang rose Mary in your windows and doorways. We walk over to the beach, and we bring the kayaks down to the water. There’s a small storage box outside with paddles and life jackets inside. We buckle up our jackets and head into the water. It’s a calm evening, the water is crystal clear; our paddles are creating ripples in the water as we tread along. We stay close to the shore because it will be dark soon and the open water is no place to be in the dark. We paddle past a long mountain side with a small cavern. The cavern holds many of my families' ancient artifacts. I have never been there, but maybe one day. “I feel like meeting you has been a dream” Charles said. Looking at him I can see the last couple of days have been hard on him and he is handling it incredibly well considering. Charles catches me looking at him. “What are you thinking about?” he asks. Witches use dandelions to enhance psychic abilities. Dandelions are also great for creams to keep people looking youthful. I am making us bacon, eggs, and French toast for breakfast. I dip the bread in some eggs in batter with cinnamon and throw it in the frying pan. “So, what happened with your parents yesterday” I finally ask. I grab two plates and start adding the food. “They didn’t tell me much more than we already knew. I was adopted when I was 8 months old on December 15, 2001, because my parents died in a car accident. The adoption took place at an adoption agency close by.” He explains.“Anything else?” I ask.“That’s all they were able to tell me.” He said. I have a suspicion that they are leaving something out. It’s not a lot of information but I might be able to work with that date and see the deaths of people who had a small child in the area. “The local library in town keeps records of all the newspapers in the area. But the library isn’t open until Monday.”
