Hang petunias around your doors and windows. The scent of them wards off monsters and spirits from other worlds.
It was another cool, breezy morning. The wind chilled the side of my face as I stood on the mountain ridge. I am waiting for the sun to rise over the flowering fruit trees in the fields below before heading to work for the day. This view up here is magical. This is where I come to clear my mind and think. Today it’s not working. Something in the air feels different, even the trees are quiet. Gazing down the mountainside at the red and pink sky, the sun has begun to peek out of the tree line. Below, a few deer grazed in the grass filled with morning dew. From this high up, you can see the hundreds of trees in rows across the plantation. The sight is breathtaking. The bright reds, pinks, and purples of the blossoming trees blend together in a forest of colours. I close my eyes and clear my mind. I can sense the trees and plants whispering to each other, their roots are deep in the soil and are all connected – like one large web. Believe it or not, but you can get a lot of news from the trees. News can travel far when you’re connected underground for miles and miles. The trees on the other side of the property start rumbling and the ground begins to shake. . The ground below me is shaking so hard I hang onto a nearby tree so I don’t fall over. What is going on. Are we under attack? Suddenly, the beautiful trees begin to fall over like dominoes. Is something running through the forest? I have to warn my family. I turn to run home, but hear a branch crunch to my left, startled I turn my head and farther down the overgrown path there is a tall man about 6.2 who looks to be about my age walking towards me along the edge of the mountain. How did I not sense his footsteps in the grass? The shaking has stopped and the trees that I swear I saw fall are now are standing tall, as if nothing happened. Am I losing my mind? The man hasn’t spotted me and continues to walk closer. As he approaches, I can see he has deep brown eyes and curly dark hair. I notice a tattoo on his very muscular right arm of a symbol I swear I’ve seen before. When he finally spots me, he says, “Hi there” and waves at me. “Hello” I say back a bit worried to see someone else out here especially after what just happened. We also do not allow visitors on this side of our property. I can see that there was still a far enough distance between us that I could get away safely if I had to and it made me feel a sense of relief. He also didn’t stand much chance against me – I have some tricks up my sleeve. “What a great morning for a hike” the mysterious man said continuing to walk closer to me. Did he not feel the ground shaking moments earlier? Aside from the small natural disaster that I might have imagined , he was right it was a beautiful mid-spring morning and after a long winter it was nice to that things were green and full of life from the now warmer temperatures. “Did you hear anything weird just now?” I asked. He raised his eyebrows and says “no nothing but the birds.” I could hear the birds singing in the trees around us. Our orchard is home to many different species of animals and birds, almost like a sanctuary. I smiled and nodded. I should be getting back to make sure my family is okay. But it’s almost as if a strange force is keeping my feet locked in their place. I am intrigued by this man. He was right in-front of me now. I could feel my guard slipping, something about him made me feel like I had met him before, but nothing about him looked familiar. I think I would remember someone as handsome as him. I could feel my face beginning to heat up and my cheeks turning red at the thought. He held his hand out and introduced himself. “My name is Charles; I just moved here. I found this path a couple of weeks ago and I love coming here and seeing the beautiful colours of the trees while they are flowering” he expressed. “I didn’t mean to scare you.” His presence here makes me nervous and also curious. We have secrets we like to keep hidden and him being here was suspicious, but I want to find out more about him. My mind wanders, our family has to be cautious, we have made many enemies throughout the years. Even though Charles being here was alarming he did appear to be harmless, and it didn’t hurt that he was incredibly handsome. What is this pull I am feeling towards him? I could feel my face turning flush again and answer him. “My name is Paige.” I introduce myself “I live on the other side of those small mountains. This is my family's orchard.” “Wow, really? You have a beautiful place here. Maybe you can give me a tour one day?” Charles asks “I would love to see the flowering fruit trees up closer. “ “Yeah, maybe sometime” I said crossing my arms. He seemed oddly curious about the orchard. “Well, I guess I’ll see you around some time” Charles said as he began to walk away down the trail. “Maybe” I say after him. I watch him walk until he disappears into the trees. Who was this guy and what was he doing this far into the forest?Violets are said to give the gift of sight and can help show the future. The next day I’m on the ground in the grass digging up some of the weeds in my garden in-front of my cottage. I am thinking of Charles when hear my phone ping. I see a message from Charles that said: “Hey, its Charles, you dropped a bracelet yesterday and I just wanted to give it back to you.” I look at my bare wrist and sure enough my charm bracelet is gone. That bracelet has powerful stones embedded in the gold that were given to me by my uncle, and it is especially important to me because my uncle is gone away often. My uncle has a matching one with the same stones and when you touch the stones they light up. We all worry about him but when he touches the stone my bracelet lights up and I know he is safe. I wonder how it fell off my wrist. I message him back “thanks, when can I pick it up?”Charles sends me his address and tells me that you will be home all day and I can come by whenever. I
Lavender is used to calm and help with peace and tranquility. We add lavender to our fires to ward off evil. I want to talk to Evee, so I walk over to the bakery to see if I can find her. I find my mother instead. “Oh hello, I didn’t expect to see you so late” she said. “Have you seen Evee?” I asked. “No. What do you two have planned for the rest of the night?” my mother asked. We have given my poor mother many sleepless nights. “I am not sure yet” I answer. “Well good luck finding her” she said. I’’ about to leave but before I go, I turn and ask “have you ever met a witch who was with a mortal” “I did once, and it didn’t end well, why are you asking honey?” she said. “No reason” I answered. I don’t want to make her suspicious, so I say nothing else. “Did you meet someone?” She asked. I didn’t want to get into that right now so I lied and said “no, where would I meet someone.” She looked at me for a moment and said “you’re right you never leave.” “See you t
The spice clove helps improve your memory and you can wear it for protection against negative energy. If you give it to your friends, it will keep your friendship strong. It's been a week since I last saw Charles. I barely know him but I can’t stop thinking about him. It is another beautiful afternoon, and I’ve been helping Evee at the bakery all day. The smell of the baked cookies coming out of the oven is starting to make me hungry. We have another school coming tomorrow for a tour. Evee loves children and wants to make sure there is enough baked goodies for all the kids. I look around and there are trays of pastries on every surface in the kitchen. “I think we have enough pastries here to feed a whole army” I say. “Are you sure, what if the kids want more than one?” Evee answer. “Look around, I think there’s enough for each kid to have three if they wanted” I laugh.Evee looks at all the cookies, muffins and pasties on the trays around us. “You’re right” she smiles. “I’
Lemon balm is used for its calming effects it enhances focus, thus improving intuitive thoughts. Evee grabs my arm and practically pulls me up out of my seat.“Okay, okay, I’m coming”‘I joke. She makes her way outside and follow her. Where is this crazy girl going? She runs down to the waterfront. It is a windless night, and the water looks like glass. The sand is cool on my toes as I run after her. “What are we doing out here?” I shivered. “We are going swimming” she cheers. Evee begins to create a large ice block from the water and shapes it into a large water slide; there is even a small ice ladder. This is the kind of stuff we did when we were teenagers. I shake my head “You are crazy, the water is going to be freezing” I say. “Not for me” she smiled, “I’m always cold.”The water is cold all year round because the lake is so large, let alone in May. Evee has a kind of you only live once attitude, it can be a lot of fun, but it has gotten us into trouble once or t
Place a small piece of Jade in the pocket of the person you want to improve a relationship with. We get to the head office just as the bus with the second-grade class arrives for their tour. This is one of my favourite parts of my jobs. Children love seeing and learning about the orchards.Children are impressionable and if you tell speak positively about the environment they tend to take a liking to it. “Who’s excited to see some trees” I cheer once the kids are off the bus. The kids shout in excitement “me!”“We will leave in 5 minutes” I tell them. “Everyone get ready to go.”The reporter pulls in. When she steps out of the car into the grass, I fell the grass jolt under her feet, as if it wants her off. What did the grass have against a reporter? Despite my feelings of weariness, I head over to greet her. “Welcome” I say. The pin in her hair catches my eye. It’s small silver crystal I have never seen before. I will have to look through my dad's journal and see if I can
If you are lacking creativity plant begonias around your work area they will help with inspiration. The sight of him makes my stomach do a little flop. I am happy to see him again, but how did he find this path? He shouldn’t be able to see it because of the magic guards; I don’t like how close he is to our garden. If he can see the path what if he can see the entrance to the cave too? “Hello again” Charles yells “sorry about that, this my family dog Brue. I hope he didn’t scare you.” My heart starts beating a little faster as I answer “hi.” He has the most beautiful and soft brown eyes I have ever seen. I focus my thoughts “Your dog has an interesting name” I laugh. I bend over to pet him trying to distract myself from his eyes. “Yeah, his name a mix between brown and blue because of his eyes.” He answers. “That’s cute” I laugh. “Are you a good boy?” I say as Brue flops onto the ground on his back. He is silent for a moment and then he asks, “Do you want to walk together?”
