Luca’s POV

I knew Ghost wanted to follow Viper immediately, because the moment we learned that he had left the compound, the look on his face changed from cautious suspicion to the kind of determination that had once made him one of the most feared men in the Serpents.

He had spent years believing that Luca Torres was responsible for the destruction of everything he loved, and now that the truth was beginning to emerge, he wanted answers badly enough to risk walking straight into another trap.

  • Guarded by the outlaw    Chapter 42

Ghost’s POVThe old President had once told me that a club could survive losing a leader, but it would never survive losing the truth about why that leader had fallen. At the time, I had thought he was talking about the usual struggles for power, the kind that came with leading men who were willing to fight for their place in the world. I had not understood that he was warning me about something much closer to home, something that could destroy the Serpents without a single enemy having to cross our gates. Now, as I stood in the garage with Luca and the shipment records spread across the table, I found myself remembering that conversation with an uncomfortable clarity.“We need to find out what happened to the President’s original files,” I said, looking at Luca. “If he suspected someone inside the club before he died, he would have kept records of what he discovered, especially if he believed the person responsible had access to our operations.”Luca rested his hands on the workbenc

Luca’s POVI knew Ghost wanted to follow Viper immediately, because the moment we learned that he had left the compound, the look on his face changed from cautious suspicion to the kind of determination that had once made him one of the most feared men in the Serpents. He had spent years believing that Luca Torres was responsible for the destruction of everything he loved, and now that the truth was beginning to emerge, he wanted answers badly enough to risk walking straight into another trap. I understood the feeling because I wanted those answers too, but I had survived this long by learning that the desire to uncover the truth could become just as dangerous as the lies themselves.“Before you decide to ride after him, think about what we're doing,” I told him as he reached for his jacket.Ghost turned toward me, his expression impatient. “Viper just left the compound after one of his men met with him, and we found a record connecting that man to the missing shipments. If that isn

  • Guarded by the outlaw    Chapter 40

Ghost’s POVThe man who had spoken to Viper after the meeting was gone by the time Luca and I reached the garage, but his absence did not surprise me. If he was the person carrying information between Viper and the outside, he would have enough sense to avoid drawing attention to himself after a meeting like that. What mattered was that we had finally seen them together, and although a brief conversation was not enough to prove anything, it gave us somewhere to begin.I closed the garage door and turned toward Luca. “We need to find out who he is without letting him know we're interested.”Luca nodded as he placed the notes from the meeting on the workbench. “Then we start with the club records. Every brother has a history here, and if he has been close to Viper for as long as we suspect, there should be something that connects them.”I pulled a chair toward the table and sat down beside him. “And if there isn't?”“Then we look at what he does now.” That was the problem with Luca. H

  • Guarded by the outlaw    Chapter 39

Luca’s POVI had spent enough time around Ghost to recognize when he was angry, but lately his anger had changed. Before, it had been loud enough to fill a room even when he said nothing. Now it lived behind his eyes, controlled and deliberate, because he had finally understood that Viper was waiting for him to lose control. That made our situation more dangerous, but it also gave us something we had not had before.Time.We had spent the entire morning keeping our distance from the investigation while quietly watching the man we believed was carrying information back to Viper. We did not approach him, question him, or even allow him to notice that we were paying attention. If Ghost was right about Viper, the smallest sign of suspicion could make them change their entire strategy.By afternoon, we had enough to know that the leak was not accidental. The same information we had deliberately separated between different people had reached Viper through the same channel. It was too cons

  • Guarded by the outlaw    Chapter 38

Viper’s POVI had learned a long time ago that the most dangerous person in a room was not always the one holding a weapon. Sometimes it was the person who knew exactly when to remain silent, when to speak, and when to let everyone else believe they had reached a conclusion on their own. That was how I had survived this long. The Serpents had always been ruled by loyalty, but loyalty was fragile when fear entered the room. Give a man enough reasons to doubt the person standing beside him, and eventually he would begin protecting himself before he thought about protecting the club. That was what I had counted on and for years, it had worked. Until Luca returned.I sat alone in one of the quieter rooms of the clubhouse, studying the information that had reached me during the afternoon. It was not much, but it was enough to tell me that something had changed.Ghost was no longer reacting, he was watching. That difference mattered. The old Ghost would have confronted someone the moment s

  • Guarded by the outlaw    Chapter 37

Ghost’s POVThe first thing I learned that morning was that suspicion could be more dangerous than certainty. Once you knew someone had betrayed you, at least you knew where to direct your anger. When you only knew that a traitor existed somewhere inside your walls, every familiar face became a question, and every ordinary movement could hide something you had failed to notice.Luca understood that better than anyone. We left the evidence exactly where it was and behaved as though we had discovered nothing. There was no reason to let Viper know that we had found the record access, and there was even less reason to give whoever was helping him an opportunity to disappear. If the person inside the club believed everything was still going according to plan, they would eventually make another move. That was what we needed.Another move. The clubhouse slowly came alive as the morning progressed. Brothers came in from the yard, conversations started around the tables, and the usual noise

The club smelled of smoke, oil, and blood. Not literal blood this time but the weight of it pressed down on everyone, thick as the tension that rippled through the room. Ghost leaned against the bar, gripping a half-empty bottle, his eyes scanning the brothers with a precision that felt sharper th

The night was dense and still, the kind of darkness that pressed against the chest and made every sound sharper. Ghost stood at the edge of the canyon road, the first light of moon catching the jagged cliffs around them. Luca crouched beside him, gear strapped tight, eyes scanning the horizon. Th
