Return His Gift

HANNAH'S POV

"You didn't have to hit my head so hard." Zachary whined the moment we exited the building. Sirens blurred the atmosphere. Police cars surrounded the building, they already taped the building. I watched as they extract the man that got shot.

Zachary watched my eyes move and focused his gaze on the man also. What a night.

Me and Zachary moved past the tapes as a medic walked up to the both of us. "Are you alright any injuries ?" He asked. I looked at Zachary and left him with the Medic. "Hannah." I turned on the mention of my name. "Do you want me to escort you to the hospital ?" I asked.

"Absolutely not." He yelled. "You're unbearable." He added. "Then don't waste my time just so you could tell me that." I hissed at him. "You better get patch up we don't want you having some brain injury of some sort." I winked at him, he got pissed.

"Remember our deal Zachary, oh before I forget your number please." I walked over to him and exchange numbers quickly. "I'll contact you tommorow." I said.

"You don't have to." He says. I rolled my eyes at him.

"Since we're getting married we need to communicate as often. Goodbye Zachary." I blew a kiss to him which got him irritated.

I recalled what happened back at the cafe building, I used the butt of my gun to hit Zachary's head like five times, the last one might have been personal.

I immediately told him to play dead and dragged him out of the table and aimed for the floorboard instead of his head. It gave off the visual that I shot Zachary to death. Since Zachary was 'dead' the Sniper didn't have to go forward with the mission.

But a good Sniper is supposed to hit his target dead or alive.

I walked to a corner and stopped as my eyes met Brian. He was busy packing up. "Had fun ?" I asked.

"Not really, I only got to use this only once." Brian said tapping his equipment. "What was your deal shooting that stranger anyway ?" I asked.

"Nothing really he just got in the way. He wouldn't have died if he stayed in his seat." Brian said already packed up. "I already sent you your 20 grand, i trust my uncle won't know about our transactions." I said to Brian who only gave me a nod. "I'll take it to my grave." Brian assured, I didn't trust them but it was better than nothing.

Before he turned he paused. "I heard the Mistress of Mendova died. Sorry for your loss."

"You're consoling the wrong person." I said with tired eyes. "Am I ? Well then congrats on losing your aunt. At least that's one Mendova down." He said as I shrugged. "But why did you kill her though ?" I asked Brian who immediately turned looking confused.

"Excuse me ?" He questioned.

"My uncle claimed that his wife planned to commit suicide but that wasn't how it played out. Someone, probably a maid set her up after giving her poison to make it look like she was committing suicide."

"When she was caught Uncle had her under retention so it gave someone the opportunity to kill her with a silent sniper. Though it was something set up as another suicide scheme I caught on to you. When you aim with a sniper you always aim for the head." Immediately I finished Brian gave me a round of applause.

"Why didn't you report me ?" He asked.

"How can I report you to the person who murdered his own wife ?" I said to Brian. "I'm not interested in that, I just need to know why he killed her." I said waiting for an answer. Brian was clearly irritated, he hated I always caught on that's why he set me up.

"I don't really know but I'll play dumb in this case if I were you. My guess is that your aunt challenged your uncle or she committed." Brian said which is very valid in this case. "Hannah, don't challenge your uncle. A war is coming and you shouldn't be part of it. Keep serving that family and if you find a way to get out don't turn back." Brian muttered like he cared. It scared me. Why was he being protective all of a sudden.

"That's why I set up this elaborate plan to get Zachary to sign a marriage contract with me. Soon enough I'll leave this family. You don't have to tell me." I said about to conclude our discussion.

"I think both of you would make a good pair." He said turning his back against me and picking up his equipment. I turned around as well coming out of the corner to see the ugly scenario has calmed down.

I picked out my phone to call Kerry, it ringed until she picked up. "Hey Kerry guess what my plan worked. I told you your art of seduction was crap." I said over the phone.

"I know I watched the news. Someone died." She said in shock. "It was a mistake. Brian might probably fix it or not depending on the situation." I said taking some steps back and leaning against a wall.

"So what are you and Zachary now ?" Kerry asked.

"Probably dating we didn't really discuss what we actually are. He's at the hospital getting treated after I probably almost made him unconscious." I said heaving a deep sigh. "Then you should probably get him a get well gift. I've always wanted to help you with your love life but you always slept around."

"Well it's not like I wanted to all those were for work." I defended myself. "Whatever, now you have a boyfriend you have to show him how much you care for your relationship to grow." Kerry advised.

"But I don't like Zachary…"

Before I could whine Kerry yelled at me over the phone to shut up and go with the fact that I already proposed a contract with him.

"He's going to be your husband soon so you better start treating him well. Anyways how long do you both have till you get married ?" Kerry asked.

"Well my aunt's funeral is this week and Lilly's birthday is next week. My uncle gave me a month to find a husband so I have two weeks left we'll probably just have a court wedding." I said reasonably deciding that's the best choice for now.

"My baby girl is growing up. Just weeks ago she was strangling fat rich men, I'm proud of you." She said, I couldn't help but laugh.

"You know it's high time you get married too, I won't always be impersonating you for your blind dates Kerry." I told her immediately, the amount of guys her father set her up with and the amount of men she had me take out was alarming.

"Oh no Marriage is not for me. Marriage is another excuse for my father to control me. It's either he gives up or they'll pile up dead. Anyways I'll call you later." Kerry hung up leaving me alone in my thoughts. This marriage is another way for my uncle to control me, the thought of it made me enraged.

I went home immediately. My room was the first thing I wanted to be in but a maid called that my uncle wanted to see me. I quickly quit the idea to go meet my Uncle. In his office I met Christian and James with another familiar figure apart from my uncle.

"Yes uncle ?" I called to him as he smiled.

"Sinclair paid you a visit, come say hi to him." Sinclair got up from his seat to greet me. I tried as much as I can not to get irritated.

"What are you doing here ?" I mustered In the most quirky tone I could. "I heard I was among the candidates to wed you. I just came to tell you that you don't have to pick any longer, my gift to your uncle should change your mind."

I pieced everything together, he came to bribe my uncle so I could pick him. "Uncle return his gift." I ordered. Everyone in the room was amused.

"What ?"

"Return it I already picked a candidate."
